What is GPScorrect?GPScorrect is an extension to the ArcPad 6.0 software. It commPathfinder® receiver connected to a field computer, allowing yoreceiver and collect postprocessable GPS positions for features

Using the GPScorrect exGPScorrect runs automatically in the background when youcommunication between ArcPad and the GPS receiver.

Help is context-sensitive. If you access the Helpwhile the GPScorrect extension is running, it opensat the topic that corresponds to the currentGPScorrect screen.

To access context-sensitive help from within theGPScorrect extension when using a PC, H/PC Pro,or H/PC 2000, tap . On a PC, you can alsopress [F1] . To access context-sensitive help whenusing a palm-size PC or Pocket PC, tapand select Help.

GPScorrect requires VBScript support. If you are using a CE desupport installed (such as a GIS TSCe field device), you can insinstall ArcPad. In the Select Components step of the ArcPad insVBScript Runtime Library for Windows CE check box.

By default, ArcPad stores maps and data files inRAM. If your CE device has a secondary internalstorage location, such as the GeoExplorer CEhandheld’s Disk or the GIS TSCe’s storage card,Trimble recommends that you store your data inthe secondary location. USING GPScorrectThis section outlines the workflow for configuring your equipment and software, collecting datausing the GPScorrect extension, and processing the collected data. It provides step-by-stepinstructions for key tasks. For detailed information on other tasks, refer to the documentation forthe product used to perform the task.

• Preparing for data collection

Before you collect any data, configure ArcPad to use the GPScorrect protocol. Then useGPScorrect to configure GPS settings, select real-time correction sources if required, and enableGPS logging to SSF.

• Data collection

Once you are in the field, use GPScorrect to check GPS and real-time status. Use the Plansection in GPScorrect to plan your data collection session around the times of best satellitegeometry, and adjust your GPS settings if necessary. Then use ArcPad to collect data as usual.

• Processing the data

Back in the office, transfer the Shapefiles and their matching SSF files to your office computer.Then use either GPS Pathfinder Express or GPS Pathfinder Office to differentially correct theSSF files and merge the GPS data from each SSF file into the corresponding Shapefile.

Planning the data collectThe Plan section in GPScorrect includes ananimated skyplot of projected satellite positionsover the next twelve hours, and a graph showingDOP values over that period, using the currentGPS settings.

Collecting dataData collection with the GPScorrect extension isexactly like data collection with ArcPad alone.Once you have enabled GPS logging inGPScorrect, you do not have to do anything extrato ensure that GPS data is logged to SSF files.Simply create or edit layers and features in ArcPadas usual.

In ArcPad, each feature type is stored in aShapefile. When you create a layer or add featuresto an existing layer, GPScorrect automaticallycreates an SSF file with the same filename andstores all GPS position information for that featuretype in the corresponding SSF file.

NOTE You cannot log new GPS positions to an SSF filethat is more than a week old. To maintain accuratestorage, it is necessary to limit the time-span of adata file to seven days.
