New US Soccer youth initiatives to improve player developmentIn August 2015 US Soccer (USSF) introduced new initiatives that will impact all levels of youth soccer across the country. These initiatives will be rolled out across GPS starting Fall 2016.

The two key initiatives that will be introduced are:• Birth year registration (January 1st cut off)• Standardization of Small-sided games

These changes are aimed to align the whole country in a consistent approach and provide an age appropriate environ-ment for long term player development. This will apply to all age groups from U6 and older. The change to birth year registration will align with the rest of the world.

Standardization of Small-Sided Games• 2009/2010: 4v4 No offsides, no goalkeeper. 30x20 yards field• 2007/2008: 7v7 With goalkeeper and offside rule in place• 2006/2005: 9v9 Field size approx 1/2 size of full 11v11 field. The final transition before 11v11 play• 2004+ 11v11 Full field

The GPS Premier Program: IntroductionThe GPS Massachusetts Premier program is for young players who aspire to achieve excellence in their game. Our emphasis is player-centric with development the number one priority. We focus on the technical, tactical, physical and psychological development of players on a pathway towards maximizing their full potential.

The winning tradition that has been established over the past 15 years is based on each player improving significantly over the time they are with the club. All players will conduct themselves at all times in accordance with the GPS Premier Team player code of conduct and all players will be treated as equals.

The GPS Coaching staff will be coaches of positive significance in our players lives. Our coaches will inspire and moti-vate our players in an atmosphere of respect and honesty versus fear and intimidation and players will be encouraged to think for themselves. Success is achieved through building good habits and having players be accountable for their own development.

Our Premier Program is divided two distinct phases

• Junior Premier Program: 2005 - 2008 • Premier Program: 1998 - 2004

The Junior Premier and Premier Program is broken into geographical locations which provides our players and families a convenient training location.

Early Development League (EDL): 2009 – 2010 Birth YearThe Early Development League (EDL) is an internal team-based program that offers both training and a game day component. Teams will be formed per region/town to provide a convenient option to players and families.

The program focuses on technical and tactical player development, using the GPS Curriculum to teach players the key fundamentals of soccer. In addition to the weekly technical sessions, the EDL will also include a league play element, bringing together each of the EDL teams in a structured format for fun, low pressure games which provides the opportunity to express themselves in a game environment and put into action what they learn in practice.

GPS Junior Premier Program: 2005 – 2008 Birth Year The GPS Junior Premier Program has a tailored curriculum that will provide players with a fun, energetic and competitive environment focused on individual player development while learning the GPS style of play.

Each tier of the GPS Junior Premier Program operates a player pool system. At this stage of a young player’s development, there are a lot of variables that can enhance or impact development and we want to ensure that our players are given the necessary support and time to be able to reach their full potential. While we fully understand how ‘winning’ can positively affect player development, it is a by-product of a solid technical-tactical base and of a club’s player development philosophy.

The player pool system will provide our coaching staff the opportunity to move players throughout the year to provide maximum opportunity and ensure players are placed in the right environment to maximize their development. Players are split based on ability, attitude, commitment to the game and what GPS think is best for the player’s development.

Our regional teams will compete in the New England Premiership (www.nepremiership.com) plus both State and Regional events depending on the level of the group.
