Sara Allen’s fifth grade class at Partridge Elementary created a digital breakout to prepare for the MAP test. Students began the project by brainstorming math, ELA and science questions. They used the questions to create a Google Site with embedded Google forms, drawings and images. The class finished the project with a gallery walkthrough, showcasing the different digital breakouts. The class had a blast preparing for the MAP!

Second graders at Thayer Elementary have completed their March Madness Tournament of Books. The program began with 16 diverse titles that represented the favorites of several staff members. The pool was narrowed each day with the head-to-head challenge winner going on to the next round. Guest readers included Hilary Bales, assistant superintendent of personnel services, Mike Henson, director of curriculum and instructional technology, and Thayer Principal Robyn Justice. Teachers, Dara Faubion and Candace Decker invited Dr. Brian Henry, superintendent, to read the final two books to students. After the students voted and tallied the ballots, the winner was announced to be “Hooway for Wodney Wat” by Helen Lester.

Partridge Elementary announcement LEAD group students have been working together this school year to provide announcements every morning to students. The announcements include the recognition of birthdays, daily lunch choices, weather, the book of the day, leading The Pledge of Allegiance, and the Partridge Pledge. During the month of April they worked together to brainstorm testing strategies fellow students could use to help them do their best on the upcoming MAP assessments. During MAP testing, these strategies will be read to their fellow leaders to help encourage them during testing time.

Second year teachers participated in “conflict resolution” training with Connie Schweiss from RPDC. Waynesville teachers participated in leadership compass activities, self awareness, conflict response styles, and team building activities. This is the culminating activity for their beginning teacher certification.
