“ This is what the Lord asks of you: to act justly,

to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8

The Extraordinary Time of Ordinary Time The liturgical period of Ordinary Time started the Monday after the Feast of Pentecost (May 31), but each year the Church celebrates two solemnities on the Sundays following Pentecost: The Most Holy Trinity and The Body and Blood of Christ. So, this Sunday, we celebrate the 12th Sunday of Ordinary Time. Look for green banners and vestments.

This year, Year A in the 3 year cycle of readings, our Good News comes from Matthew’s account. We are in the “missionary discourse” phase. We, with the Twelve, are taught how to share in Jesus’ ministry of healing and proclaiming the Kingdom of Heaven. We are taught discipleship. Learning to become disciples is an extraordinary task. Of course, if we walk with Jesus, the road will be bumpy with hostility, rejection, indifference. But, we are reminded “Fear no one. ” We are called to overcome our own prejudices and biases and stand for justice for all, trusting that the Most High will protect us.

During Eastertime a group of us shared this practice and found great riches in our sharing's. Start with a passage from Scripture. You might try this modern day interpretation of the Bible by

Rev. Eugene Peterson: The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language*** https://www.biblestudytools.com/msg/

Step #1 - Read thru the passage, slowly and reflectively.

[Here’s the gospel for the coming Sunday ~ The 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time] Matthew 10:37-42 ***

If you prefer father or mother over me, you don't deserve me. If you prefer son or daughter over me, you don't deserve me. If you don't go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don't deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you'll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you'll find both yourself and me. We are intimately linked in this harvest work.

Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God's messenger. Accepting someone's help is as good as giving someone help.

This is a large work I've called you into, but don't be overwhelmed by it. It's best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won't lose out on a thing."

Step #1 continued. Read thru the passage again and select a word, phrase,

or image that stays with you. Write it here. >>______________________________________________________

Step #2 ~ Read the passage once more. Take your time… no rush!

Reflect and discern: What message do you hear for yourself? >>_______________________________________________________________________________

Step #3 ~ Consider your reflections so far, read the passage once more and discern:

What message do you hear that is meant for us all? >>______________________________________________________________________________

Step #4 ~ Reflect on the wisdom you have found so far ~ in the passage and in your

reflections. Compose a prayer. Amen. >>_______________________________________________________________________________

~ May the Word of God in all its richness dwell in our hearts and minds ~ now and forever. ~

God’s blessings of wisdom and insight in abundance, Jane Clare

HELP CAPUCHIN COMMUNITY SERVICES FEED PEOPLE WHO ARE HUNGRY Good Shepherd has added another way for you to make a contribution to the Parish.

We now have an online way for you to handle your monthly donations.

It’s easy to do. Simply go to the Good Shepherd website and click the button on the left

that says Online Giving by WeShare or click the link here.

https://mygoodshepherd.weshareonline.org/ You will be directed to a secure online giving portal where you can choose your

contribution amount and method of payment. Choose Credit card or Debit card. You can set it up to be a regular monthly contribution, if you wish.

Since we are just rolling this out, you can only make contributions to the

Daily Operating Fund and Building Maintenance Fund. But very soon you will be able to choose the other funds you wish to contribute to, including things like the Good Shepherd Combined Collections, Christian Formation fees and others.

Ready for Something New?

The Capuchins fed over 148,000 individuals last year. The COVID – 19 health crisies may mean that even more families in our community will need help receiving food. Join the Good Shepherd/St. James team on Saturday, July 18th to help feed those in need. We are spreading out this year, encouraging social distancing on neighborhood walks for the 2020 Capuchin Walk for the Hungry. T – Shirts will be delivered to participants’ homes by the U. S. Post Office. Those who join our team by June 26, 2020 should receive their shirts in time to walk in their own neighborhoods. Usinger’s Famous Sausage will be donating up to one pound of product for each registered participant. Sign up today and help feed the hungry. Capuchin Community Services feeds people through the House of Peace’s Emergency Food Pantry on the corner of 17th and Walnut and at St. Ben’s Community Meal on the corner of 9th and State.

Is someone in need of a protective mask? Marianne Eigner has made several and would like to give a mask away to anyone that needs one at no charge. In order to have one you need to make arrangements with her to pick them up. Her phone number is 414-416-9056.

Handmade Masks for Free

As we are experiencing the Catholic Comeback, more and more things we love about going to Mass are coming back. Unfortunately, one of the things we all enjoy is on hold, the family fun activity of the “Corn Roast.” Also on hold is the “Love One Another Campaign,” Worship Space Upgrade, and the DMI Survey Results. With time, eventually, they will come back too.

ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Courage is needed to speak God’s word. Let no one intimidate you. God gives you

the power to speak the truth.

Step #1 Rescue Meeting a survivor's immediate needs. Girls come to our center in many ways. Some women and girls come to The Genesis Project center through referrals from other survivors. Many young women are referred and even transported to our center by local police or the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force.

Step #2 RESTORATION Supporting survivor education & rehabilitation. The Genesis Project provides counseling, substance abuse support, job and life skills classes, paid internship opportunities, transportation to medical appointments and court, free legal counsel, and access to educational programs such as GED completion.

Step #3 RELEASE Referrals to Safe Housing. We support survivors by offering housing resources, connections to housing programs, transportation to residential housing (short and long term), and ongoing support. We hope to have our own long term program for survivors one day.

Face masks, surgical masks or respiratory masks? Despite the safety advice of staying two meters apart from others, coughing and sneezing can project virus particulates six meters away. Coughing and sneezing produce a “muzzle velocity” of 50 meters/second (for sneezing) or 10 m/s (for coughing), rendering the two-meter protection zone of little assistance without an additional barrier in the form of a mask.

The two classifications also signify the number of particulates filtered out by the mask, the FFP2 filters 94% and FFP3 filters 99%. The more particles that need to be filtered, the greater the number of filter material layers. Consequently, masks in the higher protection classes are thicker, meaning breathing resistance is higher.

Particle-filtering face masks protect against particles, but not gases or vapors.

Arsalan Karim, Director of Research and Development of Clinova, explains: “Right now, there’s a lot of talk about different kinds of protective masks, and which one is best. While surgical masks protect against infectious agents transmitted by droplets, they do not protect against airborne infectious agents such as viruses, so they will not prevent the wearer from being potentially infected by COVID-19.

“However, the respirator face mask, which protects the wearer from aqueous and oily aerosols, smoke, and fine dust, is also more effective at protecting against airborne infectious agents such as COVID-19 and SARS. Respirator masks prevent viruses from entering the body through the mucous membranes of the mouth and nostrils.”

Questions to Ponder - 12th Sunday in Ordinary Times:

Children: What could you do to encourage someone who is feeling hurt?

Adults: When has your faith in Jesus been most seriously tested?

Generations of Faith

Your Generations of Faith registration information is in the Mail. Every Good Shepherd household should receive registration information for the coming year in the next week. Watch your mail for the form. If you would like to register for Generations of Faith, simply review the information for accuracy, make any adjustments, and return to the Christian Formation Office and we will take it from there. If you are new to Good Shepherd or Generations of Faith, there are two components to the program covered by one fee. There is a monthly intergenerational event (all ages together) and a monthly grade level event called Growing Faith (for school age children and youth). Due to additional materials or retreat events sacrament preparation does carry an additional fee. There is one registration form for the whole household and one fee based on the number of people in the household participating. For seniors, many with fixed income, we offer a discounted fee. Please see the registration form for details and payment options. Generations of Faith is formation for all ages, please plan to join us in the Fall.
