Quorn Village
Community Cares
GOOD NEWS Many things have happened this week because we have a great village, but we must
give a SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS.
A resident, living alone, did not receive the online order that had been made by one of her children, liv-
ing many miles from Quorn. He found the email address of our group ([email protected]) and
made contact. A local volunteer was put in touch and between them the order was tracked and deliv-
ered. Another neighbour is now going to make a weekly phone call, just to keep in touch and make sure
the resident knows the village cares about everyone.
Another resident has relatives living outside the UK, and a similar situation arose. Perhaps this quota-
tion paints the picture best. "Living abroad and being so far away from my 82 year old mum when coro-
navirus hit the UK was awful - I can’t believe how lucky I was to have found your group so soon! Such a
relief to know that there will always be someone there to help out if and when she needs it. Your good-
will and your fantastic reactivity in a crisis is a wonderful thing and I thank you all so much.”
Finally, we heard this week of a resident who has started speaking on the phone to one or two people
he knows. Because he also knows they are on their own, and cannot get out for their normal walk, to
meet a friend on Stafford Orchard, or the pub, he thought this contact was better than nothing.
And yes, the regular contact with someone they know, not necessarily a member of the family, really
makes their day much better they tell him.
The support, help and advice we all need and are going to continue to need is not just shopping or col-
lecting prescriptions, vital though these are. Simply keeping in contact is also vital for us all.
Please remember this and see if you can help anyone at all.
THE QUORNDON MAGAZINE:- APOLOGIES
With the best will in the world it seems that some homes did not receive the magazine last weekend.
Thank you for not moaning on Social Media as everyone tries to do their best. If you have still not re-
ceived it let us know by email and this will be remedied. [email protected]
Let us know your good news stories, without names or addresses so that we can share these.
Everyone is welcome but please register your interest via email:-
You may be housebound yourself just now, but there are different things to be done.
Each street has at least one, and usually more volunteers . You will certainly not be
on your own.
So the workforce will change or be rotated like a Premiership rugby squad.
WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS

Ideas for children
Easter Windows to brighten up Quorn We have all seen the beautiful rainbows adorning the front windows of houses in Quorn and well done,
there are some absolutely amazing decorations. So as Easter is fast approaching could we have a front gar-
den/front window Easter eggstravaganza!
An eggcellent way to brighten up our
walks or cycle rides around the village as
well as a great way to encourage our chil-
dren away from a screen for a few
minutes.
Mine will not look anywhere near as chic,
but I’m sure we can have a go with all of the empty loo rolls we have all been stockpiling!
I love this idea using egg boxes and I will hunt a few real feathers on our walks over the next
week – this gives us a sort of treasure hunt during the walk! Just remember to wash your
hands afterwards. I might even write a list of things to find (add some obscure ones to keep
then looking) and they can tick it off when found.
Pine cones are all over the roads and paths in Quorn at the moment and they would be great to turn into
eggs or bunnies or chicks!

Huge thanks to Jo; you know who you are.

Easter chicks using hand and foot prints. Easter Egg shaped collages. Or this Easter wreath. It is in
fact a paper plate with the middle cut out, then use the middle and cut it into egg shapes and deco-
rate with felt tips, paints etc.
Easy way to make glue if you don’t have any at home
Add four table spoons of flour to a sauce pan. Add enough cold water un-
til it is as runny as pancake mix. The turn on the heat and let it boil. Stir it
all of the time. Take off the heat once it has boiled. Let it cool down and
there you have cheap and easy glue!

WHAT’S NEXT?
Well, we got to Issue 2, so let’s keep going.
There were some ideas and feedback, including: “Make it easier to read, please!!”
You can see that we have now got a section for children, and this will continue.
But who else needs a separate section?
Should we include some ideas for recipes using odd items from the back of the cupboard?
What about a link to making compost as the Brown bins will not be emptied any time soon?
And above all, we are going to need some good news stories and a bit of humour.
It is worth repeating this bit from Issue 1, as it is still easy to assume everyone can read this Newsletter.
We all think that the internet is a good thing, but not everyone has a computer, or uses the internet.
Ask yourself,
“Do ALL my neighbours know what is written here?
“How can I check that they have all this information?
“How could I pass it on?
“Could I print it off and post it through the door or give it to a volunteer to share with people they know?”
Lastly, please get in touch with us via
Stay safe, at home as much as we can. But stay in touch electronically, or by phone, and rarely by
post.
