    rency restrictions, ecoiinniic arid other

    conditions make it I M P O S S I B L E for

    those

    people over there

    to

    contribute

money to pay the European broadcasting

expenses. Even if the people of France

or England wanted to help pay for

    it,

the French francs or Bri t ish pounds

could not be transferred into the hard

cash it takes to pay Radio Luxembourg.

The s tat ion does have an arrangement

in New York whereby within about

    30

days they can transfer United States

dollars into the kind of money they can

    use. And

    for

    this reason, we have to

    pay

    30

days in advance. It takes about

    30 days

    to

    get the money t ransferred

into useable cash funds in Luxembourg.

This means that our United States

co-workers will have to dig a lit t le deep-

    er, and

    sacrifice

    a little mole-because

    we of America

    will

    have to pay all the

    Seven Ministers Ordained

    by

    Herber t W . Armstrong

God revealed to me, seven years ago,

the need to establish a college-a new

kind nf collppre-in which the future

ministers needed f or this gigantic world-

wide crusade would be properly educat-

    ed and trained. Ambassador College

    1047.

It, too, started the smallest college

in America-just 4 pioneer students, tho

it had a faculty of eight professors and

    teachers. But,

    as

all things of God do, i t

is GR OW I N G, at the same rat io

    as

    the

Go spel work It is no longer the small-

    est college in America

On December 20, 1052, by authori-

t y of Jesus Christ, with fasting and

    prayer and laying on

    of

    hands of Gods

    ministers, in congregation assembled in

    Pasadena, California, upon recommenda-

    tion

    of

the Board of Trustees of Th e

Radio Church of God, five of our young

    ministers were fully ordained.

    They are Richard David Armstrong,

    Raymond Clifford Cole, Herman Louie

    Hoeh, D r. C.

    Pa u l

    Meredi th, and Roder-

    ick Carl Meredith-all grad uates of A m -

bassador College, except Dr. C. Paul

Meredith who already held the doctors

    dcgrcc

    from

    Iowa State College,

    b u t

who had completed the entire four years

of Theological study at Ambassador Col-

    lege.

Upon recommenda t ion of the Board

of Trustees , two more of ou r young m in-

isters, Marion Joel McNair and Ray-

mond Frankl in McNair , will he

    f i i l ly

    ordained following their graduation

    from the college January 30,

    The New

    Covenant-

    Does it aboli3 Gods Luw?

    Thousands have asked if t h e New Covenant does a w a y with

    Gods

    Commandments.

    Heres

    the TRUTH

    on

    this auestion.

    N

    ARLY

    everyone has been taught

that the old covenant was the

    ten commandment law-that

the new covenant contains only grace

    and promises , but no law. Hence i t i s

argued that since the old coveilaiit has

been abolished Gods law has also been

    abolished.

This teaching would lead you to be-

lieve that the law of God was harsh,

    cruel, and enslaving-that th e

    F A U L T

    of

the old covenant was with the

    law,

    and

    since

    God gavc

    thc law, the FAULT must

    have been His

Later, according to this c omm on teach-

ing, Jesus came with a new covenant

which had no law, only promises and

liberty to do what you please.

    Certainly there is something terribly

    wrong with this concept.

    W h y t he N e w C o v en a nt ?

There is a vital need for the new

covenant . Why? Paul wrote: For if

that first covenant had been faultless,

then should no place have been sought

    for the second. For f i nd i ng f au l t

    . . .

    ( H e b r e w s 8 : 7 , 8 ) . So the first covenant

    had

    a

fault, for finding fault . .

    .

    wi th

    what, the law? N O

    For

    finding faul t with TH EM , h e

saith, Behold, the days come saith the

    Lord, when I will make

    a

    new covenant

with the house of Israel and with the

    house of Judah.

Then the fault wasnt with the law,

but with them, TH E PEO PLE, the chi l -

dren of Israel because they continued

not in my covenant-because they dis-

    obeyed

    (He b. 8 : 9) . If the fau l t were

with the law, then the law would not

have been perfect; but David said, The

law of the Lord i s perfect , convert ing

    the soul (Psalm 19:7).

It was to correct t h e fault

    with

    the

    people

    t ha t God said H e wi l l make an -

other covenant. Now lets find out what

the old covenant really was so we can

    know HOW

    the

    new coven ant will correct

    that fault.

    W h a t Is a C o v e n a n t ?

T he real reason m ost churches dont

unders tand the t ruth about the cove-

nants is that they don t even know what

    b y Ra ymo n d C . Cole

a covenan t is W ebs ter defines

    a

    cove-

    nant as

    a

    mutuaI

    agreement,

    a legal un-

    dertaking to do

    or

    to refrain from some

    act, a document containing the

    terms

    of

    agreement.

A covenant is an agreement betwccn

    parties.

The Eternal God proposed the old

covenant with Israel in Exodus 19:S,6.

Here were the part ies to the agreement

or covenant. Notice what it says: If ye

(Israel) will obey my voice indeed, and

keep my coven ant-that was Israels

pa rt of the ag ree m en t, then--and thi s

was the ETERNALS part of the agree-

ment, the part he promised to do-ye

shall be unto me a kingdom of priests,

Did the people accept this proposal?

And all the people answered together,

    and

Very few know it, but the old cove-

    nant proposed

    by

    the Lord was

    a

    mar-

riage agreement between Him and Isra-

    el Israel was organized

    as

    both church

    and state.

Here is what Ezekiel wrote about this

covenant, I entered into a covenant

with thee, saith the Lord God, and t h o u

    becamest

    mine (Ezekiel 16:8 ) .

Again, in Jerem iah 3 1:32 you read,

My covenant they brake, al though

    1

    was

an husband un to t he m, saith the Lord.

Do you see, now, that the covenant

was not just the ten commandments,

but an agreement between the Lord and

the nation-the church of Israel? Th ey

    accepted the terms that

    He

    gave to

them. They bound themselves by this

first covenant to refrain from any adul-

terous or whorish relations with the

gods of other nations (Exod us

    34:

    12.-

1 7 ). In turn, the Lord promised

    to

    re-

    main

    faithful

    to Israel, and provide for

    them and bless them

    even

    to

    a

    thousand

    generat ions (D eut . 7: 9) .

But what were the condi t ions of the

old covenant to which Israel agreed?

    T h e Terms of t he Old C o v e n a n t

There is a great deal of needless mis-

    I

    understanding about that which consti-

tuted the first covenant with Israel. In

Exodus, the 19th chapter , God made ar-

rangements to declare the conditions of

His covenant to the people. The n in the

20th chapter God spoke every word of

the ten commandments . The ten com-

mandments are a perfect and complete

law in themselves. W h en t he Eternal

God finished speaking them HE ADDED

    N O M O RE. A N D H E W R OTE TH EM I N

    TWO TABLES

    OF

    STONE

    (Deut . 5 : 2 2 ) .

    T h e t en mmmandments were a dis-

tinct part of the terms of the old cove-

nant to which Israel agreed. They were

    the TABLES OF TH E C O V EN A N T (Deut .

    9 :9J1)

    .

Now notice Exodus, the 24th chapter.

In verse 7 Moses took the BOOK OF

    THE

    COVENANT,

    and read in the audi-

ence of the people: and they said, All

that the Lord hath said will we do, and

    be obedient.

    So

    beside the

    tables

    of the covenanc,

containing the ten basic spiritual laws

    ( R o m . 7 : 1 4 ) , there was a

    book of

    the

    covenant containing the civil laws

    of

the covenant between Israel and the

    Lord.

From the 21st to the 23rd chapters

inclusive, the Eternal revealed these spe-

cific ciuil laws, which Moses wrote in a

book (Exodus 24:3 ,4) , were based on

the principles of the ten great and broad

spiritual precepts-die ten com man d-

    ments.

    A f t e r God spoke the ten command-

ments to the people, after Moses re-

ceived the civil laws from God and de-

livered them to Israel, you will find that

the first covenant was sealed with blood

    -it

    became binding (Exodus

    24:8

    and

    Hebrews 9: 1 8 - 2 0 ) .

Since Israel had accepted the Eternal

G o d as her husband, she was

    to

    be obedi-

    ent

    to

Him jus t as the wife is to be

obedient to her husband. Th e Lord

    was

head of the nation Israel. Israel was

to keep herself unspotted from the evil

of the world by being faithful to the

    laws

    or

    terms of the agreement which

would make their relationship a perfect

    union.

    The ceremonial and ritualistic laws

    were

    added later because of transgres-

the old covenant was sealed. They were

Remember that the spiritual and civil

    Now read Jeremiah

    11 10.

    Did Israel

    remain faithful to the covenant?

They went af ter o ther gods to serve

them: the house of Israel and the house

    of Judah have broken

    my

    covenant

which I made with their fathers.

Israel and Judah did not remain faith-

    ful,

    the marriage agreement-the old

    covenant-was broken. Listen to what

    the Lord

    says

    in Jeremiah 3:8: And I

saw, when for all the causes whereby

    backsliding Israel committed adzlltery I

had put her away, and given her a bill

of divorce; yet her treacherous sister

Judah feared not, bur went and pk~ycd

    the harlot

    also.

Th e relat ionship became so bad that

the Eternal was finally forced into di-

vorcing His own people. He first sent

Israel into captivity by the Assyrians

and later Judah by the Babylonians

    (Ezek.

    2 3 ) .

Now that we have seen what hap-

pened to the first covenant, lets ob-

    serve the fault with

    it.

    W h a t W a s t h e F a ul t W i t h t h e

    O l d Covenant?

Paul said the fault with the old cove-

nant was not in the laws, but in the peo-

ple wi th wh om i t was made. Wh y?

Because it was not possible for them

to remain faithful to the righteous con-

ditions God had prescribed in His cove-

nant. hat there were such an heart

in them, that they would fear me, and

keep all my comm andm ents always, that

i t might be wel l wi th them (Deut .

    5 .

    2 9 ) .

Here was the weakness of the old

    covenant. T h e p e o p l e d d not have the

    strength

    of

    character

    t o

    be faithful

    t o

their uow. The law was weak through

    the flesh

    ( R o m a n s 8: 3 ) .Thc righteous-

ness under the first covenant was to be

accomplished only th roug h hum an obedi-

ence, fleshly effort, because there was

    no

    s p i r i tud pr omis e

    of

    recezvzng the Holy

    Spirit .

Israel was unable to serve the Lord

because they did not have a God-fedrirlg

nature within them. This condi t ion wil l

be changed in the new covenant.

    How t h e F a u l t Will Be Corrected

Remember that the first covenant had

the spiritual laws written on two tables

of stone and the civil laws in a book.

Obedience had to come from carnal flesh

    alone.

    Now

    notice what will happen in

    the new covenant.

    It wont be according

    to

    the . agree-

ment made with ancient Israel. Observe

    the differences:

    For

    this is the covenant

that I will make with the house of Israel

after those days, saith the Lord; I

    will

p u t my LAWS into the ir

    mind

    nd w r i t e

    t h e m

    in

    their hearts

    ( H e b . 8 : l O ; J e r .

    31:33

    ) .

So there will be laws, GODS LAWS,

    the

    sume

    laws which stand fast forever

    and ever (Psa lm 1 11:7 ,3) ; but th i s

time they will be written in the hearts

and minds of the people. They will be

wri t ten not with ink,

    but with

    the

    pirit

    of the l iv ing G o d ;

    not in tables of

stone, but in the fleshy tables

    of

    the

    heart (I1

    Cor. 3: 3 )

    .

Then the new covenant will be made

o n ly with those who have Gods law

indelibly written in their thoughts and

    actions.

And what is the power that writes

    Gods laws in

    our

    hearts and minds?

Th e Spirit of the living God.

The love of Gcd which fulfills the

law is shed abroad by the H o l y Spirit

    which is given unto us ( R o m a n s

    5

    :

    5 ) .

Th e Holy S pirit is one of the better prom-

ises of the new covenant (Heb. 8:G .

    Also

    norice

    that

    t he

    new

    covenant

    will be m ad e wit h ISRAEL-the house

of Israel and the house of Judah. The

new covenant will not be made with

those who remain Gentiles as most peo-

ple falsely assume. The covenants and

the promises pertain to Israel (Rom.

Since the new covenant will be made

with Israel, what about the Gentiles?

    Are they totally left out?

    Or

    has God

provided some way by which they may

receive that same blessings which are

    promised to Israel?

When your chi ld understands Gods

For instance, the abil i ty

    to

    produce

    beautiful music certainly glorifies God

if it is exercised properly. In most cases,

your child need not jel lowJhip the wvrld

in order to take music lessons, play in a

band or orchestra or sing in the school

chorus. In these activities, the idea

    is

    social or religious fellowship, but

    to

    produce co-operatively good music and

    to cultivate each individuals talents.

Such activit ies will give your child

will teach him to work in harmony and

    to co-operate-in

    The TABERNACLE at Gladewater,

    Texas

    H

    R E S the first view of

    the archi-

    tects sketch of the proposed

    Tabernacle to be erected im-

    mediately on the recently purchased

    beautiful wooded site near Gladewater,

    Texas.

Last sp ring, although only a small por-

tion of our great co-worker family had

    heard about

    i t ,

    we were surprised to see

    123

come to Gladewater for the solemn

memorial of Christs death for our sins

    -the Passover.

    A

    beautifullv wooded. Drivate and se-

    I

cluded tract of some 45 acres,

    on

    High-

    way 80

about 7 miles west of Glade-

water, has been partly donated and the

balance purchased and cleared. A pri-

vate roadway has been graded, leading

    from Highway

    80,

    back into this totally

secluded and private tract. The roadway

now awaits surfacing. The grounds are

    sloping and beautifully contoured. A

beautiful lake is to be created, over-

looked by the tabernacle pictured above.

The tabernacle will be erected atop a

beautiful knoll. It will serve three pur-

poses. The rear portion, to the right in

the sketch, covered by the arched

    roof,

will be the tabernacle for the annual

    festivals.

    As

    first built, this tabcrnacle

    portion will seat 440 people.

    It

    is de-

signed so that i t can be widened later,

    a

    wing

    at a

    time, each to seat

    196

    addi-

    tional persons, o r a total

    of

    392 addition-

    al.

There will be room for a choir

    o r

    chorale of

    30

    on the rostrum.

    Entrnnce is

    from

    a porch-way or poi-

tico in the center, behind which is the

permanent school and church, and to

the rear of that, the kitchen and rest

rooms. It IS so designed that the church

and school room (for year-round use)

can be opened up to become part of the

    larger aud itorium, adding

    150

    seats.

    This

gives a final grand total of more than

    1,000

    seats, when finally completed.

The front portion, shown at fore-

    front,

    to be added later,

    It

tabernacle, to the right above, first, and

to have it ready in time for the P assover

    the present time

funds are not coming in for this Build-

ing Fund rapidly enough to get it com-

pleted even by a year from this Pass-

over. It is going to require a great many

more contributions, and some of fairly

    large amounts. One listener

    in

    Florida,

engaged in the plumbing business, has

    offered to donate

    all

    the plumbing fix-

tures, and this will prove a tremendous

    help, for which

    all

    co-wurkers will be

    grateful.

    Ordinarily good common construction

today costs at least $12 per square foot.

While this Tabernacle will be very at-

    tractive, yet because this part

    of

    the

building will be used only in mid-

    spring

    or

    mid-fall, during mild weather,

    it

is being lightly constructed at a cost

    of around

    5

per square foot. W e are

    economizing every way possible, without

    sacrificing needed quality. Every co-

    worker

    is

    urged to realize the serious-

ness of this need, the SHORT time re-

maining, and to make sacrifices and

send in the largest sums possible

    for

this building fund immediately, by re-

    turn air-mail.

and explained to t h e disciples thar,

hereafter, the commanded offering of a

    lamb

    in anticipation of

    the death of the

Messiah would be replaced with new

crnblcrns because the lamb of God

would have been slain for the world.

    Jesus used

    unleavened bread

    and

    wine

    as the new emblems.

    God never permitted leavened bread

    to be used

    at

    the passover. Also the

fruit of the vine could n ot have been

    unfermented grape juice. Grape juice

could not at that time be preserved till

spring. It either became wine, about

forty days following the harvest, or else

the grape juice was made into a heavy

syrup. Any kn ow ledg e of the p ractices of

the Jewish community in the days

    of

Jesus will reveal that f e rmented w ine was

    used exclusively at the passouer ( H a s -

Th e s t range doctr ines that entered the

    explained fully in coming articles.

of the most sordid episodes of church

    ( C o n t i n u e d f r o m p a g e 6 )

off are made nigh by the blood of

    Chris t (Eph. 2 : 1 1 - 1 3 ) .

    So

    it is

    throagh

    Jeszls

    Christ

    that Gen-

tiles are no more strangers and foreign-

ers, but fellowcitizens with the saints

(Eph. 2:19). Paul says in Galatians

    3

    :

    29,

And if ye be Christs, then are ye

    Abrahams seed

    (no

    longer considered

Gentiles) and heirs according to the

    promise.

    So

Gentiles have to be long t o Christ

in order to become part of the spiritual

    commonwealth

    of

    Israel-the church.

Paul, in Romans 11: 17-18,pictures the

Gentiles as branches of wild olive trees

who are grafted into the natural olive

tree-Israel begotten of the Spirit. Gen-

    tiles can be partakers

    of

    the same Spirit

of promise and of the blessings to Israel.

But carefully notice, the Gentiles by

    nature do

    n o t

    receive the promise. They

must become transformed into the Spir-

    it-hegnrren commonwealth of Israel be

fore they can receive any of the bless-

    ings.

How could Ch rist make it possible for

Geniileb t u be heirs to the promises

    made to Israel?

    Chris t ,

    the

    Heir

    of

    Abraham

The promise of eternal inheritance of

the earth was unconditionally made to

    Abraham and his seed (Gen.

    26:

    ) .

Bur Abraham died without inhe riting the

    promises (Hebrews

    1 1 : 1 3 ) .

    It re-

    mained for Jesus Christ the

    one

    heir

who was with out sin-the promised

seed through the lineage of Abrah am

-to inherit the promises (Gal .

    3:16).

Jesus came in the flesh to confirm the

    promises made

    to

    the fathers ( R o m .

    15:8) . H e also was [he minister of

    a

    new Jestarnent

    or

wi l l by which he

    would bequeath His entire inheritance

to His heirs in case of drdth. Remember

the new cescament contained the prom-

    ise of

    eternal znheritance

    (Hebrews

    9:

    1 5 ) .

    Christs

    t e s tament

    or will

    did not have

any force until his death. For a testa-

    ment is

    of

    force

    after

    men are dead

    ( H e b . 9.17) . When Chris t died, then

His heirs have the right to the eternal

    inheritance made possible through the

Holy Spirit which imparts eternal life.

    But

    who d i the

    heirs of Christ?

    No

one is Christs unless one believes,

    repents, and is baptized (Acts 2 : 3 8 ;

    Gal. 3 : 2 7 ) . So you can become an heir

of Christ if you fulfill this condition

.ind receive the Holy Spirit which puts

    i

    mmerses-you nro

    t h e

    church

    whether you are Israelite

    or

    Genti le ( I

    Cor. 1 2: 1 3 ) . W e are Christs because

    Christ b o u g h t us by giving His life in

    our stead to pay for

    our

    sins I Cor.

    6:20).

    N e w C o v e n a n t Not Yet Comple ted

    Christ

    is

    the Mediator of the new

    covenant (Heb.

    8:6).

    According to the

    prophecy

    of

    Daniel

    9:27 ,

    Christ has not

    yet

    complet.ed

    His work of confirming

the covenant. Therefore the new cove-

nant must yet be completed in t h e

    f g

tare--For this is the covenant that I

will make with the house of Israel

    AFTER THOSE DAYS, saith the Lord;

    1

    wi l l

put my laws into their mind, and

    write them in their hearts (Heb. 8: 10;

    Jer.

    3 1 : 3 1 - 3 4 ) .

The new covenant will not be made

with fleshly, carnal Israelites who can

still sin-it will correct tha t fault. Th is

time it will be made with Spirit-born

Israelites who have been forgiven their

    sins and who have Gods

    laws

    written

in their minds and hearts so they cant

sin and break the covenant. The apostle

John reveals that it is only at the resur-

    rection when we are b o r n u g a i n - c o m -

    posed of spirit-that

    we wont

    be able

to sin because we will have Gods nature

    permanently implanted in us ( I J o h n

    3 : 9 ) . Jesus told Nicodemus also that

we must be born again-of the Spiri t -

before we can inherit the kingdom and

    gain eternal life (John

    3 ).

Bear in mind that the new tertament

    or

    will of

Jesus Christ has been in force

since His death. But His testament or

will has conditions which we must meet

    before

    w e

    can

    inheri t

    the promises.

The Greek word for testament also

    means covenant. Since the new

    testa-

    m e n t

    involves our agreement to fulfill

these conditions, it also becomes a cozie-

nant-and that new covenant will not

be confirm ed wi th us-we won t inherit

    the promises--until we are first

    made

immortal and have Gods nature so we

    cant sin (I1 P e t e r 1 : 4 ) .

    Marr iage Agreement

All that the Scripture says concerning

Israel and the promises under the new

testament pertains to the church. It is

    the

    church

    that is Israel begotten and

    soon

    to

be born of the Spirit (Acts 26:

    6 , 7 ) . Under the old covenant Israel

    could have becomc

    a

    kingdom

    of

    priests

(Ex. 19 :6 ), under the new covenant

the church will become a kingdom of

    No,

if he had been he would have

lost all chance for e terna l l i fe but we

    17 that i t is

    but i t i s

    This does not

mean we have de l ibera te ly thought and

    We

    are all born wi th
