Social Studies

• History: students will study Native American Indians up to the Civil War.

• Government: Students will explore citizen’s rights, the constitution, and what makes the government work.

• Economics: Students will use basic economic concepts. Such as, trade, exchange, productivity, and personal budget.

• Geography: Students will discuss the geography that pertains to the historical events of Native Americans up to the Civil War.

*Pretest will be given before each unit*Independent/Group projects will be given to those students that receive a 90%

or higher on a pretest

English Language Arts

• We will use leveled readers/chapter books in guided reading groups as well as grade level basal stories to supplement.

• We re-read and discuss the story emphasizing comprehension skills. Examples: sequencing, cause/effect, predicting, summarizing, and using inference skills.

• We will use journals for writing and complete several writing pieces.

• Homework: Students must read 20 minutes 4 times a week or equivalent to 80 minutes.

Spelling

• Students will pretest every Friday and have a post test on Friday.

• Those that score an 90 or higher on the pretest will work from a set of Latin and Greek root words.

• The Spelling/Vocabulary test consists of correctly spelling the word that goes with the given sentence.

• Students should have time to work on their spelling activities in class. If not, the contract must be completed at home.

Math

In Grade 4, instructional time should focus on three critical areas: (1) developing understanding and fluency with multi-digit multiplication, and developing understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends; (2) developing an understanding of fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers; (3) understanding that geometric figures can be analyzed and classified based on their properties, such as having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures, and symmetry

• Students will utilize various programs/methods to share information, whether that is in the form of PowerPoint, Prezi, Voki, Stop Motion, and much more!

• We will display our work online on our Wiki site, which will be available in September. There is will a link from our class webpage to our Wiki.

• We will use technology to enhance our learning!

Important Information

• Agendas: Must be completed by the student in each class, and signed nightly by the parent.

• Tardy: Students must be escorted in the building by an adult if you arrive after 8:45.

• Absences- Students must have a note to excuse an absence. Please be mindful of your child’s attendance. When students are absent or tardy, it is easy for them to fall behind. Students have one day per day missed to make up all missing assignments.

• Birthdays: If you are sending in a treat for your child’s birthday, please make sure that you have enough for the entire class. Treats will be distributed during lunch.

• Snacks: Students may bring a healthy snack.

Before School Program (BSP) & After School Program (ASP)

• For students staying in before school, the cost is $3.00 per day and after school is $6.00 per day. You may pay by the week or by the day. Please turn in money during homeroom.

•   Make check payable to Clark Creek ES and earmark it for BSP/ASP.  Be sure to write which days you will be sending your child.  You MUST pick your child up by 6pm SHARP!

Dress Code• Pants & Shorts must be 5" from the top of the kneecaps. 

Use a 3 X 5 index card to measure. • Skirts & Dresses must be 3" from the top of the knee caps.• Shirts & Blouses must have no writing, graphics, or

pictures that unreasonably attract the attention of other students or cause disruption or interference with the operation of the school. Shirttails must be below the belt line even with arms raised above the head or when the student is seated.  No tank tops, halter tops, nor spaghetti straps allowed.

• Undergarments: must be appropriate and worn at all times.

Buses

• Students will not be permitted to ride a bus other than their own to another student's home.  Exceptions will be considered if a written request is made by parents of the both students and if space is available on the bus involved. A note must be brought by both students at the beginning of the school day for approval.  

• Note:  the same policy applies to students wanting to ride home with someone else.

Medication

• Students who need to take medication while at school should leave the medication with the office or clinic with a form as soon as they arrive at school.  Permission letters from parents/guardians, doctor's dosages, and times for administering are to accompany all medication.  It should be in the original container also.  No student will be allowed to take any medication without a note.  All medication, prescription or Over The Counter (OTC) drugs are to be registered at the clinic upon arriving at school.
