INTERSTITIAL INTERACTION Golie N Ebrahimian [email protected]
This dormitory located on the Chinese University of Hong Kong campus was designed to break the typical institutional typology. The approach was to create a series of five low-lying buildings that were interconnected to create multiple opportunities for interaction between students. The project is oriented to allow for views towards the main campus down below the steep topography.

MUNARI MIXT MENUThe proposed temporary structure will be located in the exterior space of Triennale Museum in Milan, Italy. The structure will house an exhibit for Italian Modernist artist and designer Bruno Munari’s selected works, such as Falkland Lamp. The form was generated through a modular extruded 10’x10’ triangle. The structure is made of translucent orange panels that will be illuminated for visibility during the night and day from the adjacent park.

CENTER FOR THEOLOGICAL STUDIES The proposed Center for Theological Studies would be situated in Philadelphia between three different religious places of historical significance: Mikveh Israel (Louis Khan’s unbuilt synagogue), the Quaker’s Friends Meeting House, and Christ Church Cemetery. The exterior ceremonial ramp through the project from the entrance to the chapel creates new perspectives to each site. The tension between the public meeting room and the semi private chapel was maintained from the initial studies of interior spaces.

WRAPPING THROUGH THRESHOLDSThis public housing project located in the Cherokee neighborhood of Saint Louis was developed through an exploration of thresholds along the site. The form of the proposed project establishes continuity between the highly commercial street of Cherokee and the residential street of Iowa. The design includes a large outdoor green space for the existing family court and live/work spaces along the street for a semi-commercial presence. The interior of the project houses the residential program along with courtyards for residents.

COMMUNITY RHYTHM Community Rhythm offers insight into the Ville, a historically significant African American neighborhood in North St. Louis. Even though the area’s development is wrought with uncertainty and challenges, the community’s anchor are its numerous churches that attract a far-reaching transient population from around the St. Louis region every week. The site is located at the southern intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and North Sarah Street. Although at its periphery, the community has designated this area as the entrance to their neighborhood erecting a small marker in recent years. Divided in two by North Sarah, the project is organized around two exterior spaces: one, a large exterior, public space providing a contained extension of the neighborhood to gather for events such as popular St. Louis fish fry and numerous other congregational events and two, a community garden. The program addresses current needs and seeks to spur regrowth through a non-profit vocational training for young adults, a community room for meeting, a restaurant and café, as well as small retail storefronts for start-ups.
