Term 2 Week 4, 21st May 2015
SAPSASA
SOCCER
CHAMPIONS
2015
Congratulations to the GGPS SAPSASA soccer teams who had
great success at this week’s carnival. The boys’ team won 3 of
their 4 games and finished 2nd overall. Harry Kostrzewa was our
highest goal scorer. Jamie Sumpter was fantastic in goal and all
the boys played beautifully as a team.
Our girls’ team brought home the Championship trophy after
also winning 3 of their games. With an exciting penalty goal
scored by Alana Armstrong on the final siren, the team won the
2015 Championship title over Saint Francis. All girls played well as
a team. Alana was the highest goal scorer and Riley Upton was
brilliant in goal.
Thank you to Bruce Pearce for managing the teams and for the
many parents who helped and supported us on the day.

SAPSASA Hockey Carnival
We entered a team of very enthusiastic hockey players in the SAPSASA Hockey
Carnival on Wednesday 6thth May. The team consisted of Emma Dean, Georgia
Aitken, Jodie Duncan, Eloise O’Neill, Chantal Gaudio, Riley Upton, Caitlin Organ,
Dkota Kubenk and Kimberley Mumford. The goal scorers were Emma Dean and Jodie
Duncan.
Lesley Dean our coach, was full of praise for the way in which the girls played as a
team and obviously remembered what they practised in their training sessions. The
team played 5 games and were successful in 1 of them, drew 2 and lost 2. These
results meant that they came equal third overall.
Many thanks to the parents who
supported with transport and in
particular, to Lesley for organising
and training the girls over the past
4 weeks.
Congratulations also to Lesley
who will coach the District team
this year.
Ryan Shepherd and Joshua Watts
joined Ardtornish Boy’s team as
they were very keen to play
again this year. They also had a
great day and their team came
2nd overall.
Well done to everyone for a super effort on the day!
SAPSASA Cross Country
We had 32 very enthusiastic students competing in the SAPSASA
Cross Country Carnival at Pertaringa Oval on Friday 15th May.
Students born in 2002, 2003 and 2004 ran 3 kms and students born in
2005 ran 2 kms.
All students ran really well with Calum Campbell coming 1st , Bridget
Grant, Chris Tidswell and Abbey Cooper coming 2nd, Alana
Armstrong and Isabella Reitano coming 3rd , Riley Babiak, Sarah Gill
and Kasey Miller coming 4th and Dylan Lamerton coming 5th in their
respective age groups. 15 of our students came in the top 10 in their
event.
Most of these students will represent the Tea Tree Gully District at the
State Carnival on Thursday June 4th.
Thanks to all the parents who transported students and cheered
them on.
Congratulations to all participants. The run is not an easy one (half of
it is a slow uphill climb) and they can be really proud of themselves
for competing.

At Golden Grove Primary School, we understand that
families value photographic memories and records of their
children as they are involved in their learning and school
activities. School staff often take photos and videos that are
used in the classroom and sometimes shared in newsletters
and on Edmodo.
Part of the Golden Grove Primary School Enrolment Form asks that parents give
their permission or limitations to image publication. For a variety of reasons,
some students are unable to have their photo or video image published where
others can access it (in or out of school). To ensure the privacy of all students is
respected, we ask that photos or videos that are taken at school events such
as Assemblies and Sports Days, are not shared on social media (eg Facebook,
Instagram etc) if they contain children other than their own. We have had quite
a few cases lately where this has occurred and it has caused angst for some
families.
Thank you for your cooperation

Although our ANZAC Day ceremony was held at the end of last term, I would like to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU to all who were involved in making our 100 year commemoration so special. To HB2 who did an amazing job researching and presenting information, Catafalque Commander, Sgt Rodney Stubbington and members of 462 Squadron, Guest Speaker SGT Luke Robinson, RSL Members Mrs Lois Ramage and Mr Michael Sherlock for presenting Kayleigh and Jacinta Fairfield with Perseverance on the Homefront medallions, Mr Fred Jackson for reciting the Ode of Remembrance, GGPS Choir, special visitors from the TTG RSL and Members of Parliament. A big thank you to all students for their respectfulness during the ceremony. Kerry Mayes D.S.T.A
Students who have a parent in the Australian Defence Force often have to deal with change when their parent is absent for long periods of time, on course or deployment. On the 6th of May our Year 3 to 7 Defence students had the opportunity to attend an Optimistic Kids Program facilitated by the Youth Programs Manager, Port Ade-laide Community Ltd. Psychologist, Simon Andrews shared some positive thinking and resilience strategies through group activities. Students had a tour of Alberton Oval and the facilities used by the Port Power footballers. They were able to have a kick of the football on the Alberton Oval. Some comments from students about what they learnt on the day were: “You can’t just jump to conclusions because it might not be right”; Don’t always blame yourself when something goes wrong”; “Give yourself the credit you deserve”; “I learnt what different feelings can mean”; “I learnt new ways to solve problems I may have”.
