Reinforcement of cement mortar and concrete

is a 30 years old concept, widely accepted

and practiced in USA, Europe, Japan, Korea

and far East.

GLUED STEEL FIBRES

Glued Steel Fibres, an alternate concrete

reinforcing material are high tensile steel

wires with hooked ends, glued together

for compactness and uniform dispersion in

concrete.

Cementious material Steel fi bres

Improvement in physical properties of Glued Steel fi bre reinforced concrete over normal concrete.

Reinforced Glued Steel fi bers vis-à-vis other type steel fi bers: With the high performance of tensile strength, large aspect ratio and uniform separation in the concrete, reinforced glued steel fi ber concrete can bear more loads and absorb more deformation.

Crack control mechanism of reinforced glued steel fi ber: The hooks at two ends ensure optimum anchorage between steel fi bers and concrete, which enable the glued steel fi bers to transfer and distribute stress effectively. The fi bers act as tiny bridges and control the crack initiation and extension in the concrete.

Improving durability for the concrete: Since the sectional area of reinforced glued steel fi bers is very small and the area and volume of concrete is comparatively large, it easily forms alkaline membrane around the glued steel fi bers which prevents eroding. This minimizes the cracking of concrete, so as to drastically reduce the corrosive substances in contact with glued steel fi bers and avoid its rusting. Thus it improves the durability of concrete and extends its life span.

EVEN SPREAD

Due to its unique nature, the Glued

Steel fi bers separate in the process

of mixing and spread evenly in the

concrete within three minutes. On

the other hand, loose-type steel

fi bers will reunite during mixing.

HIGH TENSILE STRENGTH

Average tensile strength of glued

steel fi ber is more than 1100 Mpa

which ensures that glued steel fi ber

in the concrete will not be broken

under strong force. The hooked

ends ensure optimum anchorage

between glued steel fi bers and

concrete, which effect in utilization

of glued steel fi ber’s high tensile

strength to maximum

HIGH ASPECT RATIO

Under the condition of same weight,

higher aspect ratio produces more

glued steel fi bers. Hence there

are more points of action of glued

steel fi bers inside the same volume

of concrete. Thus glued steel fi ber

concrete members have higher load

bearing capacity.

MINIMUM GLUED STEEL

FIBERS DOSAGES

Due to the high tensile strength

and large aspect ratio for reinforced

glued steel fi bers, it needs much less

reinforced glued steel fi bers than

other loose steel fi bers products

under the same engineering

conditions.

ENGINEERING CHARACTERISTICS

Improving Impact Resistance and Shearing Strength: Since the reinforced glued steel fi ber is distributed uniformly within the concrete, when the concrete is loaded or subject to impact, it is able to distribute the stress uniformly and reduce stress concentration.

Improving Wearability and Fatigue Resistance of Concrete: Reinforced glued steel fi ber concrete has high performance of wear ability and fatigue resistance. It is especially suitable for the project position subject to serious impact damage and high fatigue architectural structure.

Convenience of Construction: Unlike wire mesh and re-bars, which are diffi cult to fi x and position, reinforced glued steel fi ber can be easily mixed with concrete, offering savings on labor and time.

Reducing Material Consumption: Maintaining equal performance, thickness of slabs & fl ooring can be reduced by 20-25%, against conventional concreting methods. This is attained by high tensile strength and even spread of glued steel fi bers in concrete. Signifi cant cost saving is achieved by using glued steel fi bers.

APPLICATION > FIBREXTM

How does it work?

Fibres in SFRC lock the coarse aggregates together

and prevent propagation and opening of micro

cracks.

Fibres inhibit crack growth by transferring tensile

forces, effecting in low stress concentrations.

Stress distribution. Fibres carry the load across cracks reducing the stressconcentration at the crack tip. This limits crack propagation relative toplain or mesh reinforced concrete.

Fibre Reinforced

Unreinforced

Steel fi bers at contraction joints

– Provides load transfer by improving & maintaining

aggregate interlock.

– Joint fi llers stay in place better.

Brittleness

Ductility

The Normal Brittle Concrete

Ductile, Durable & Tough Concrete on addition of Fibrex® Glued Steel Fibres

Conventional reinforcement like rebars & mesh do not cover the entire concrete mass. The edges are susceptible to cracking and chipping. Fibers spread throughout the entire concrete mass, providing reinforcement to even edge & corners of structure.

MIXING PROCEDURE

Glued steel fi bres can be added during

or after the batching of concrete,

using conventional mixing equipment.

Protective equipment should be used

while handling the product. Conveyors

and dispensers may be used to add

fi bres to the mixer at ready mix plant.

After addition of fi bres, suffi cient mixing

time should be given, to have uniform

distribution of fi bres throughout the

mix. Super plasticizers may be used

and can be advantageous.

Use of FIBREXTM dosage of 15 Kg/m3 reinforces and reduces fl oor thickness by 20-25% which results in an increase in potential of steel fi bre usage in concrete fl ooring.

Applications ____________________________________

Flooring for warehouses Factory fl ooring Commercial buildings Garages Residential buildings Porticos Ports Aircraft hangars Car parks

Method ________________________________________

Strengthens concrete at initial stages of crack development.

Fibres control propagation of cracks, thus preventing development of hair line cracks in to major cracks.

Unlike rebar and mesh, fi bres are evenly distributed, leaving no weak links in structure.

It is possible to use thinner slab due to higher fl exural strength. Thickness can be reduced (typically 20–25%).

Can withstand wear and tear and absorb higher loads (typically 50–100%).

Benefi ts ________________________________________

Savings in material and labour cost by eliminating conventional reinforcement.

Reduced cracking implies longer life. Prevent water seepage. Reduced slab thickness leads to less material usage.

Simple to construct and expedite construction. Reduced spalling at joints and edges. Higher impact strength and reduced fatigue effects in longer service life and less maintenance costs.
