GLORIFIED LIFE

As we come into the new age, the Teaching becomes moreconcise, direct and synthesized. The presentations are becomingshorter because they deal with the most essential. In the new age, wedon't have time to waste on secondary matters. We must go to theessence and understand it. Also, our intellects are keener than thoseof our ancestors, so we can understand with less explanation andexamples.

When you read the books of the sixteenth, seventeenth andeighteenth centuries, you will see that the authors wrote 200 pagesto say what we might say today in one sentence. New-age writing isgoing to be really meaningful. There will not be a page with oneunnecessary word on it. Only that which is needed to explain themost essential will be written. Authors will have great respect fortheir readers, so they will not waste their readers' time. If you takeaway one sentence from a chapter, the chapter will lose its meaning.

Compare this kind of writing with earlier writings in which you candelete whole sections and chapters without any effect on themeaning. The new-age Teaching is extremely focused, direct andcondensed.

In my youth, I went from brotherhood to brotherhood in searchof truth. I traveled to many places and studied with many beautifulTeachers. I read thousands of books, but I never found anything that

could surpass the Agni Yoga Teaching. It presents the most essentialin such a beautiful way concisely and directly. You can write awhole book on one sentence from the writings. In one paragraphthere are enough seeds to sprout four or five books. You can discussone paragraph for a year and still not finish it.

M.M. was thinking of the progress of humanity when He gaveHis Teaching in such a condensed way.

In your efforts to understand the Agni Yoga Teaching, youcollect and coordinate your mental and spiritual powers. Thediscipline which you put them under makes them labor together in 1 a

harmonious way. Your mind will feel like it has been given lots ofgood nutrients to keep it active and healthy all day. These thoughtsare the best food for out mental bodies.

Let's look at some of the Wisdom which M.M. has given us.

... Strive for the life glorified. . . - 1

Sit down and think of all your possessions and all yourexpressions, and decide if they are glorified. If not, how can you putthem on the path to glory? Look at yourself physically, emotionally,and mentally. Look at your job, friends, home, education, and life-goals. Are there elements in them which are against the highest orthe best that you are capable of? Slowly you must try to eliminateyour ugly emotions and ugly thoughts. You must find yourself

refusing to go places which will not bring out the best in you, andslowly low-level friends must drop away. You must not want to doanything which lessens your nobility.

The glory in you that will start to shine out is your Divinity. Thegenius and talent that will radiate from you is the light of the InnerSun within you that you are manifesting. As others feel the warmth ofthis radiation, they will notice your grandeur, the Cosmic beauty that

you are expressing.

The whole sentence reads, "Strive for the life glorified and forthe realization of purity." You can see efforts to purify theenvironment and the food we eat in today's society. People arebecoming angry at the state of pollution that greed has brought us to.Emotional purity is being demonstrated in people's urge to love andspread goodwill throughout the world. Mental purity means not to bein glamor or illusion.

On a personal level, try to be really pure in everything that youdo especially in your speech. Ugly words contaminate your aura

and attract additional ugly thoughts and emotions. In all things and atall times, strive for the realization of purity. This is the first great steptoward achieving a glorified life.

Some people do not realize that smoking marijuana and takingother drugs bring a great pollution to the body. These substances donot allow your mechanism to work according to the natural laws andenergies of the planet. Using them is like putting mud in your gas

tank instead of gasoline.

We cannot stress enough the importance of keeping purerelations with others. Watch whom you associate with and what youdo with them. If you mix too much with them, you share in theirkarma. You even pick up their etheric, emotional, and mentalmicrobes and house them in your aura. People don't realize it, buteven a kiss with the wrong person can be very harmful. A kiss can

contaminate you and bring obsession into your body. A kiss with thewrong person can inject a tremendous amount of pollution into yourbody, which spreads into your organs and throughout your body. Youwill see the results when you are no longer physically healthy,emotionally stable, and mentally sharp.

.... Put aside all prejudices think freely. . . . 2

M.M. tells us here to put preconditioned beliefs aside so that wedo not limit our minds. There is no light where prejudice dwells;there is only dark murkiness where microbes live in slime. Hatred,fear, anger, jealousy, and greed are the names of these microbes inyour system. When you have a prejudice, you block the vision of aunited humanity from your own sight. This is a very sad and uglything.

At first, it is as difficult to put these prejudices aside as it is tocut off your own arm. This is because you are identified with the falsebeliefs and you do not want to let them go. This is why so much crime

is committed by prejudiced people. They will do anything to maketheir prejudices survive and then tell themselves that their crimeswere justified because they were defending the truth.

You must stop prejudice by clear thinking, which means thatyou will not be limited by your former level. You should always try toassume new viewpoints and under-stand all sides of an issue. Try tohave greater horizons, and your judgments will be wiser than before.

"Think freely!' A young girl came to see me one day because shewas very excited about a paper she had just finished. I took it andread it. It was typed and footnoted very nicely, but after reading it Igave it back to her and asked if she could think of something originalabout the topic.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, everything you say here is from a book, your teacher, orthe newspaper. Don't you have anything to say about it yourself? Tryto be really free in your thinking instead of copying what others haveto say. Try another approach that people may not have looked at yet.Bring a new level and dimension to your paper with deeperthinking."

Three months went by, and she came to see me again. This timeher paper was really beautiful. She had broken her former limitationsby clear thinking. Instead of just looking "inside the box," she hadlooked at the top, sides, and bottom, too. She had really surpassedherself.

This is an example of putting the Teaching into living practice.This girl worked really hard for three months, and through herstriving she achieved a new degree of freedom. She broke out of her

limitations just like a baby chick breaks out of its shell when it isready to be born.

People think that the Teaching is devotion and that repeatingmantrams all day long is spirituality. The Teaching is nothing else butcontinuous striving to break your limitations. This is done byobservation and hard work. The Teaching is useless for us if we donot find and break our limitations.

The Teaching always challenges us to go beyond ourselves. Insurpassing our limitations, we increase our ability to serve others in

deeper and more meaningful ways. A person cannot perform aservice or action which is beyond his present level. This is why theTeaching encourages us to go beyond ourselves. We must always belooking to our next breakthrough so that we may pass into newspheres of understanding.

If you read the stories of Great Ones, you will see that They wereable to conquer nations and lead humanity because They were able

to first of all conquer themselves. They broke Their own personallimitations, and in that exact degree, They were able to be useful tohumanity. If you are acting from the confines of your own limitations,you also limit those whom you seek to help. All of your efforts to helpothers will mold them and imprison them with your limitations.

. . . Be not downcast but full of hope.Flee not from life, but walk the path of salvation. . . . 3

When a person has hope, he has proof that Reality exists withinhimself. He has the hope that one day he is going to be reallybeautiful in actuality. He has this hope because the beauty alreadyexists within him it simply needs to be brought to the surface. 4

Hope is the reflection of the Reality that exists within. When yousay, "I hope I am going to graduate .... I hope I am going to bevictorious," the victory is already within you, but it has not

manifested yet. Real hope is the evidence that whatever you hope foris already in existence.

What does not exist within man? All of Cosmos, all of Divinityexists within man. The source of all creativity is within man, so hopewill never fail you. Your hope is actually a path upon which you builda way to bring the Reality into manifestation. Your hope becomes aninvitation to your Hidden Glory, encouraging It to come out. Yourhope ties you with your innermost Center of Divinity.

One day when I was twelve, a nurse who loved me very muchasked my mother for permission to take me to a meeting. My motherlet me go. There I was given a book which I read over and over again.I loved it so much. In that book, the nurse had underlined a sentence.At first I thought the book had been used, but she was quick toexplain that she had done it for emphasis. She wanted me to reallythink about the idea given there. It was, "If a man did something, youcan do it also."

What a challenge this gave to my young mind, and what hopealso. It gave me a great inspiration to think that I could do as well asMichelangelo and Beethoven. Maybe I could even do better than theydid. Who knows? What thrilled me was that I had the rest of my lifebefore me and that I could do great things in the days granted to me.What a marvelous source of inspiration and hope those few wordshave been to me throughout my life.

"Flee not from life." Life here means responsibilities. Whatevercondition we find ourselves in, it is our responsibility to stay thereand work it out. We must face the situation and try to improve it orovercome it. If you run away from your situation, the problems andconditions will follow you, and they will come to you again later, witha heavy tax. You cannot escape from your karma and yourresponsibilities.

Sometimes people come and tell you that you are beautiful andyou should not have to live in the environment you are in. They urgeyou to pack your bags and leave; they urge you to go to a new city

where you can take it easy. Most of these urgings are wrong. Throwthem out and face up to your duties, obligations, and responsibilities.

By not fleeing from life, you walk the path of salvation. Salvationmeans mastery of life. You master your limitations, weaknesses,mechanical reactions, and all unconscious influences. Most of us livean unconscious life. We speak, act, and feel mechanically, and nothingis really under our control. When you begin to master your

unconscious living, you are on the path of salvation. You are savingyourself by making yourself Divine. You are releasing yourself fromthe confines of matter.

It is a wonderful thing to take some of these verses and learnthem by heart. When I was in the Middle East, I visited a man whowas said to have memorized the entire Koran. I didn't believe it, so Iwent and asked him to recite it for me. "Do you have a few hours?" he

asked .... He really knew all of it! What a great mental power that manhad.

If you learn some of these verses, in times of trouble andcomplication one or two sentences will come to your mind. In manyadverse situations, memorized wisdom will come to your help if youhave faith in and love for that wisdom.

Sometimes when troubles come your way, you say a prayerasking for courage or strength. When we pray, we hope that ananswer will come. My father once told me that all Space is like a bigear: everything you say is heard by Space. None of your words areever lost.

If your prayer comes from your solar plexus, it has little powerBut if it comes from your heart, mind, and intuition, your prayer has amighty power behind it. When it comes from your soul and higher

levels, the color, music, and beauty of your prayer will be exceptional.The devas and angels will see that there is someone who needs help.

Many times unspoken prayer is very diffused. Try to focus yourmind, so that you can speak clearly and distinctly on the mentalplane. Try to practice telepathic communication with a friend. Whenyou build telepathic communication, the words you speak mentallybecome like sounds in your friend's ears. You can literally hear eachother's voices. This is the way to build and develop yourself forhigher communications.

Prayer is not the same thing as hope. Hope is the reflection ofsomething that already exists within you. Hope is a magnet whichpulls you together and thrusts you toward the culmination of themanifestation. You wouldn't have hope if things didn't already existwithin you.

Hope opens the path toward realization. Hope enables you tostrive toward realization and achievement of your destiny. What is

your destiny? Divinity. Hope puts you on the path toward yourDivine Self.

Faith is directly related to hope in this verse. Faith existsbecause the reality which is in you reflects in the mirror of yourmind. You see it and believe in it totally. It is so beautiful to you thatthe present state doesn't matter to you. You have seen the reality of

the future, and you "will strive with all your might to actualize it. Thisis why some people can devote whole lifetimes to a cause with suchjoy and vigor. They have faith; they have seen the destiny for whichthey strive. They love it because it is Divine, and they are identifiedwith the Divine in all. Through their efforts, they work to unite withthe Divine in themselves and in others. They see their labor asbeauty, while others see it as drudgery.

My Friends! Happiness lies in serving the salvation ofHumanity . . . . 5

Happiness does not lie in parties with your friends, in thepassing pleasures of the moment, or in the satisfaction of your sexualdrive. There is something much greater beyond our physical,emotional, and mental needs, drives, and urges. Are you workingbeyond these mundane aspects of life? Is there a dream or a fire inyour heart that makes you want to do something for humanity?

One day a very bright young man from East Los Angeles came to

see me. He had just won a scholarship to the U.C.L.A. Medical School.He was very excited about his future as a doctor. He said, "When I getmy degree, I am going to heal the really needy and not charge themone penny for it. I want to serve people with all my heart and spirit."

I was really impressed with his intentions. One day a couple ofyears later, he invited me to a birthday party that was being given forhim. I asked him how his studies were going. To my surprise, he said

that he had quit school and bought a big rubbish truck because hecould make so much money with it. I told him that he was living formoney and nothing else. He also said that his father went to LasVegas every week and gambled for him so that he made even moremoney.

Striving must not be stopped by material satisfaction.

Notice that M.M. says that happiness lies in serving humanity not your race, religion, or tradition. I used to wonder why myTeachers always instructed us in terms of humanity and not in termsof religion or nationality. One day I asked one of my Teachers aboutit. He held out his hand before me. "You cannot serve this handwithout serving the whole body," he said. "You must serve as if youare serving all people in the world."

... The fire of fearlessness will brighten thy hearth. We send the light to those who smile at darkness. Thy spirit is

already in ascent, and the flaming heart will not be blightedby cold. 6

The darkness mentioned here is the darkness of fear, animosity,jealousy, hatred, ignorance, slavery, and totalitarianism. When yousmile, you take heart and light comes to you. The light that is sent isthe result of contact. When you smile at darkness, you are sent lightor the power to disperse the darkness.

"Love each other beware of disunion. . . . 7

This is such an important factor in our progress. How can weserve the body if we are constantly wounding it with gossip andcutting it with lies? Criticism and pride also create disunion, whichcorrupts us mentally, emotionally, and physically. They make ourenergy reserves stagnant pools from which we cannot draw healthand vigor. Think about others as you do yourself. This is the meaningof union.

Ugly things that we do to one another have a very strong powerover our subconscious minds, and they become posthypnoticsuggestions. If your mother or girlfriend dealt with you in an uglyway, it is very likely that you will deal with others in a similarmanner. Sometimes the wound that has been inflicted will notsurface right away. It may take years or even lifetimes. Sometimesthese wounds take centuries to heal.

Notice how many times you promise yourself that you are goingto be really high-level in all of your dealings; then when somebodysteps on your tail, you bite him with your gossip and criticism. Thismust be stopped if you are ever going to release yourself from thewheel of life. You must learn your lessons and then go on. The testsare the exams to see if you can pass to the next higher level. Everytime you gossip or criticize someone, you fail and you must start thecourse again. And each time you fail, the course gets harder, so thatyou will really pay attention and learn the next time.

"Beware of disunion!' This is a warning to us, and it is also aninjunction to have group consciousness. Even if someone harms you,

forgive him and go on. Do not divide yourself and the group with low-level emotions and thoughts. Just continue on your way and try topreserve the integrity of the group.

Strengthen the consciousness of Our Presence in thy life. . . . 8

People who are able to do this feel the presence of the GreatOnes in their lives. When they are faced with a decision, they

consider how it would stand up in the eyes of Christ. When they arethinking negative thoughts, they stop and think, "What if Christ is lis-tening to me now?"

People who feel the presence of the Hierarchy in their lives arevery watchful of their physical, emotional, and mental activities andexpressions. Soon they begin to feel the presence of God ineverything, everywhere. They begin to relate to others differently

and function with more dignity and responsibility. They take a majorstep forward on the road to becoming conscious in their evolution.

If you feel the presence of the Great Ones near you, you will livein light and in beauty, with a well of courage to draw from.Sometimes you will come up against a situation and you will feel astrong presence near you, or you will be overcome by a greatemotion or a new determination.

Turn thy mind toward the joy of cration . . . 9

Only after you have entered the human kingdom can youappreciate the beauty of life and the joy of creation. Go outside andparticipate in the grandeur of God's handiwork. Wash your spiritwith the light of the Sun and invigorate your body with the fragranceof the flowers and trees. Renew yourself in the beauty of spring grass

and the joy of watching birds in flight. Send beautiful thoughts to theCreator.

A pure thought ever ascends. At the feet of Christ it blossoms, radiant.. . 10

When you look at a blooming flower and feel great gratitude,imagine that you are in the presence of Christ. You will help to formHis garden, which is composed of pure thoughts. A Great One saysthat pure thoughts create flower formations and that a thousanddevas come and dance around them.

In your gratitude, send something beautiful to the Great Ones send Them a flower. What a marvelous way to participate in thebeauty of Creation. You can become a gardener in God's field.
