    Guide Application InformationWe are excited that you have decided to apply for this position. Its a great way to make friends, learn

    valuable leadership and intercultural skills, help new international students, and have a lot of fun!

    Guides help a small group (3-5 people) of new Global Pathways international students navigate orientation and

    the first month of being in SLC. Guides lead new students through multiple orientation sessions, answerquestions, and give further explanations to ensure comprehension. After orientation, Guides assist studentswith the basics every new international student needs but may not know how to do in the USA! Guides providesupport and a critical link to the University of Utah and Salt Lake City for new international students. In return,Guides get leadership and intercultural experience, along with the satisfaction of knowing you helped!

    Global Pathways is the three-semester conditional admission program at the University of Utah. It allows forinternational students who may or may not have passed the minimum language requirements of the Universityof Utah to participate in a for-credit intensive English language program while simultaneously taking for-creditclasses at the University of Utah.

    Time Commitment

    Application Due: Thursday, April [email protected]

    Group Interviews: Week of April 8-12. Eligible applicants will be sent a link to sign up for an interviewtime.

    Acceptedapplicants notified by 5 PM on Monday, April 15

    Training: International Student Leader Training will take place on Friday, April 19 orThursday, April 25, 2013.You must be available forone of these training dates. In addition, there will be a brief update training/infosession right before each orientation (Summer 2013 = Wed., May 8; Fall 2013 = Mon., Aug. 19).

    Summer Orientation: Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11. Must be available 8-5:30 these days; exacttimes needed will be provided at training.

    Fall Orientation: Monday, August 19 through Thursday August 22. Must be available 8-5:30 these days; exacttimes needed will be provided at training.

    Additional Time Commitments: 2-4 hours/week (flexible/self scheduled) in the first month of classes

    Meal in first week of classes

    Health check in assistance: show students how to make an appointment and accompany group toStudent Health Center

    Additional assistance with locating/obtaining:o Textbooks

    o Cell phones/plans

    o US bank account

    o academic resources

    o campus/activity resources

    Be available via email, phone or in person to answer questions

    Responsibilities

    Attend all scheduled orientation functionsand training sessions

    Help lead and assist 3-5 students during orientation activities and sessions

    Speak in English in front of large and small groups

    Meet with students after orientation for one meal, accompany students to health check-ins and assiststudents with obtaining basic needed items

    Make students feel welcome and a part of the University

    Answer questions and be accessible to new students

    Qualifications

    Familiarity with University and SLC

    Intermediate or higher English communication skills

    Positive attitude

    Ability to work with a variety of cultures, people, and language abilities

    Dependable, flexible, and responsible

    University of Utah student in good academic standing with a 2.5 GPA or higher

    Preference given to students who have been at the U of U for 2+ semesters

    Both domestic and international students are encouraged to apply!
