Global Learning for Sustainability(GLS) is women-led Youth Organisation founded in 2015
to respond to the growing number of youth whose inability to develop life skills is the
major cause of challenges they face. At the height of poor life skills youth cannot address
their own challenges, some, beyond their control-and yet other are directly under their
control.
Born as an idea to empower young people with skills for success back in 2012, GLS
registered with Uganda N.G.O service bureau as a local N.G.O with a charity status on 18th
October, 2018. GLS has a major focus on advocating for integration and Implementation
of SDGs in school and community setting through global education approaches to
achieving a sustainable world at community, national and global level to specially address
challenges affecting young people globally. Hence the belief that:”There is nothing for
young people without Young People”
Targeting youths between ages 10-30 (10-19), (20-30), in and out of schools, our
programmes develop both age- appropriate and gender- responsive program
interventions that promote both health social and economic well being of target
beneficiaries through a peer education strategy in employing various methodologies as,
Capacity building trainings(mentorship), SDGs dialogues, print and media ,ICT,Youth
outreaches ,Art, Music, theatre, Life skills trainings and sessions , “Global -Twinning” to
promote global education, and other youth –friendly services..
With its focus on global issues to achieving, SDGs, Global Life Skills is inclined to
particularly address the SDGs 4.5.13 which emphasize quality education to young people
for lifelong learning opportunities, promotion of Gender equality to promote social and
economic justice for all and Action on Climate change respectively. This has been done by
stimulating debates that seek to address Sustainable Development Goals hence
influencing and targeting various institutions to implement SDGs in their settings.

GLS PROGRAM AREAS:
Life planning:
Youth are taken into sessions on life planning where they are helped to formulate, set
goals and given life skills to achieve the set goals. The sessions address issues of
sexuality, sexual reproductive health, health living and career choices and how each issue
affects their lives.
Global Education:
We live in one BIG world hence sharing common problems and at the same time co-
existing under different social and cultural dimensions. We advocate for implementation
and integration of SDGs in school settings to impart knowledge, skills, attitudes that
empower young people to act on issues facing their environment, schools, and
communities where they live and linking them to other world challenges to find solutions
locally while promoting Global understanding. This is done through “Global-Twinning” of
schools and teachers or educators in various global sites. We are continually seeking
partnerships to match the number of schools in need of our program.
Youth in and out of school:
Global Youth Ambassadors (GYAs): GLS uses the Global Youth Ambassador model to
identify, train magnify and commission talented youth to lead others to acquire life skills
needed to plan for their lives .The Global Youth Ambassadors who are in practice SDGs
Ambassadors are trained by Global Youth Educators to carryout peer education activities
on life planning and global education. The model inspires the youth to “live a better
shared future” as a pledge .The G.Y.As are supported to conduct sessions on Sexuality,
Sexual Reproductive Health, Healthy Living, Career planning, Life planning and Gender
Based Violence(Sexual Gender based violence) among others. The G.Y.As is connected
with other youth in schools to interact and share experiences and challenges in their
communities and workout solutions. This facilitates mutual learning
Global Peer Education:
GLS support Youth Global Educators (YGEs) to conduct Global peer education as a global
change strategy to identify and act on challenges in schools and communities by using
locally available resources, solutions and modern technologies through collaboration with
youth and other educators around the world to contribute to the achievement of SDGs,
hence building a better shared future by all young persons. We seek to build the capacity
of our school based and community Global Peer Educators by collaborating and
partnering with such individuals and organisations engaging in similar Global education
activities or programs.

Skills Training:
To support young people on the path of economic achievement and employment while at
the same time meeting their immediate health needs, GLS, strives to partner with other
Organisations, service providers and funders in promoting youth-friendly employment
services, vocational and technical skills to sustain the achieved positive change that aim
at promoting health, social and economic well being of youth in and out of schools.GLS,
therefore identifies youth in need and empowers them to participate and learn from
their own hand-on experiential learning and gives lifelong learning opportunities to
engage with potential employers, and in turn volunteer to lead a change in their
community by reciprocating the same..
GLS offers internship opportunities to university students who are ready to take on
leadership roles to offer their knowledge and skills attained as they grow and expand –in
turn their knowledge and skills on issues that value and promote their field of study .
Partly, practical skills trainings are given in making the following products using locally
