Global Executive Development

Programme: Africa

Duke CE is consistently rated as the best in the world, and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business is the

#1 ranked MBA in the world.

PROGRAMME DIFFERENTIATORS

Business-centricWorldwide Reach: Our expertise in delivering programmes in over 70 countries around the world, along with our extensive business and academic networks, have enabled the creation of a powerful and immersive programme. Each country visited during the GEDP offers a unique and richly diverse learning experience for participating executives.

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTIONDuke CE’s Global Executive Development Programme (GEDP) develops global business executives who can lead collaboratively and innovatively in today’s rapidly changing environment.

The programme is designed for upper and mid-level executives with at least 10 years of experience who have the recognised potential to move into a more senior executive position or role with global responsibility; senior executives holding responsibility for corporate or divisional strategy and implementation; senior executives who are expected to drive organisational expansion into emerging markets and operate on the global stage.

LEARNING OUTCOMESSeeing the Global Opportunity with Fresh Eyes

• Understanding the trends that are driving significant changes in trade flows and value creation, capture and delivery across the globe

• Recognising the patterns in these trends to identify opportunities for leverage to drive growth in emerging markets

Identifying the High-Leverage Opportunities for Value Creation, Capture and Delivery

• Identifying potential opportunities in emerging markets, such as Nigeria

• Understanding the systemic interactions between governments, enterprises and societies

• Applying an ecosystem perspective to understand how value creation, delivery and capture can be optimised

• Ability to manage and drive innovation in emerging markets

Building Resilience and Agility into the Ecosystem to Sustain the Opportunity for Value Creation

• Applying new frameworks and models for managing complex change

• Working the ecosystem network to maintain a constant state of readiness for the unexpected

• Demonstrate leadership agility

Global Focus with an emphasis on Emerging Markets: We believe that the global socio-political and macroeconomy is undergoing seismic shifts. The GEDP is designed to reflect the changing world order – whether it be social change and innovation or high-speed economic growth in emerging markets around the world.

This programme immerses you in two emerging markets – South Africa and Nigeria, the two most powerful economies on the continent – and a globally leading economy in the U.S., with an in-country experience at Duke University. Participants will take lessons learned from these three different speeds of economies and apply back to their careers and business.

Work-friendly Format: The GEDP format includes three sessions followed up by intersessions which allow participants to apply concepts learned in class to their own organisations.

Learning Agenda: Our design is done “from the outside in”, translating the complex world into learning needs and educational content for today’s leaders, rather than starting with a presumed set of learning needs.

Benefits Create leaders who can effectively lead in context, lead the enterprise, lead others and self, and implement change.

Experiential Learning: Participants learn by doing and processing experiences. Our program involves extensive use of Metaphoric Experience™, an approach pioneered by Duke Corporate Education.

Faculty: World-class thought leaders from around the globe. We draw on business school and university faculties as well as coaches, facilitators, actors, consultants, industry experts, executives, and others that form our Global Educator Network.

Company Visits: Dialogue with globally-leading companies, discussing real and applicable business issues.

Lifelong Learning: The programme stresses a learning process for monitoring and understanding the global landscape and converting the implications into an action plan. The learning process teaches leaders how to be curious thinkers and is the basis for continued lifetime learning over their careers.
