You are required to use the inquiry process to create your mood board, design and creative statement. This process allows you to define, analyse, synthesise, evaluate, produce and reflect on the task. Use the scaffolding that follows to assist in completing the requirements of the competition.

The Inquiry Process:

1. Define

What is the task, and what do I need to find out?Design Brief What does it mean?

I must design an outfit suitable for a winterclimate

Choose a city destination – New York, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow or New Dehli.Find out how cold the climate is in my chosen city destination.Find out what types of clothes would be suitable to wear in winter.

Showcase my personal style • What words could you use to describe your personal style?• What style clothing do you like to wear?

I must design an outfit that reflects mychosen city destination

• What does your chosen city destination remind you of?• Ask your teacher and friends for ideas.

Outfit needs to be comfortable • What clothing features would make your outfit comfortable to wear?• What materials would make your designed outfit be comfortable?

Outfit can have up to four pieces of clothing • What clothing combinations could you put together to make a complete outfit?• How can you make sure that each item of clothing will match with each other?

Needs to be made from wool • Your designs must use wool fabrics.• You will need to find out what wool fabric is – what it looks like and what it feels like.• Find out about Merino wool.• Find out about knit and woven material.

Include an accessory • What accessory would suit a winter climate?

2. Analyse For the city you have chosen, consider the visual cues that you can gain from looking at

images of the city using magazines, books and the internet.a. What colours do you think reflect your chosen city?b. What sort of clothing would w worn in a winter in your chosen city? Use the following

you have chosen to design for (New York, Tokyo, Paris, Moscow or New Delhi). Include some images with colours, famous people and anything else that may represent your

chosen city. Paste the best pictures you have found on a large piece of paper, and see if you can annotate

(label) some of the things that you see (this will help you with your design ideas). Some annotations might include:

What type of colours are used? e.g New York buildings are grey and silver Can you see a theme? Eg. Tokyo is a very modern, techno city full of neon signs
