Last week I interviewed Lior and Jundamir in their literacy group with the five questions I have been asking students this year: 1. What are you learning? 2. How do you know if you are doing well? 3. What do you do if you are finding it hard? 4. How do you know when you are finished? 5. Can you give me an example of when you have used the resources in the room and gone further with your learning without the teacher? We are creating an environment which enables the students to go forward without needing to check in with the teacher all of the time. Principal’s report cont….

Well done to the students and well done to our teachers. We are creating an environment where students can become independent learners and have the ability to reach as far as they believe is possible with their

learning.

What’s Happening with Got It!

Now that all the Strengths and

Difficulties Questionnaires have been returned and eval-uated Got It! will be getting in touch with families to organise one on one meetings to discuss their child’s results in the up-

coming weeks. These meetings will be for the families with children in years K-3 that scored in our target range for our Exploring To-

gether program. When we call it will appear as a private number. A letter will also be going home with the children this week to detail what the meeting is for and

when we will be offering these personal meet and greets.

We are looking forward to

getting a chance to meet with

the families from Nambucca

Heads Public School.

Bright Star Idea: At the dinner table, ask each person to

say what made them happy

today :)

Musical Can’t wait to see the musical next week.

Students had a rehearsal today!

GOTIT Program See left and below for this weeks update. Regards Phil Maunder Principal

Helpful Parenting and Discipline Text by Daniel J Siegel & Tina Payne Bryson

Daniel J. Siegel is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and Executive Director of the Mindsight Institute. His training is in pe-diatrics and child, adolescent and adult psychiatry. Siegel is known as a mind-fulness expert and for his work developing the field of Interpersonal Neurobiol-ogy, which is an interdisciplinary view of life experience that draws on over a dozen branches of science to create a framework for understanding our subjec-tive and interpersonal lives. Tina Payne Bryson is a psychotherapist and the Founder/Executive Director of the Center for Connection in Pasadena, California, where she offers par-enting consultations and provides therapy to children and adolescents. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, where her re-search explored attachment science, childrearing theory, and the emerging field of interpersonal neurobiology.

Another great book by Daniel Siegel & Tina Payne Bryson is ‘Parenting from the Inside Out: How A Deeper Self-Understanding Can Help You Raise Children Who Thrive.’

Mid North Coast Athletics Last Friday 20 talented athletes and 25 invaluable young student officials travelled to Coffs Harbour to compete and officiate at Mid North Athletics Carnival at Cex Stadium.

Young Leaders Shine With Year 6 at their High School Transition Day we called on younger members of our school to step up to accept the challenge of being a student official. Wow, they excelled and showed great persistence, resilience and initiative. Congratulations to our amazing student officials who worked continuously all day to run messages, collect results, guide competitors, post results, seek answers, organise and distribute equipment and running gear and supported each other and officials. What an amazing team they were, guided by Mrs Janelle Mc Dermid (Mrs Mac), Mrs Davies, Mr Kenny and Mrs Donovan. Flying High at Mid North Coast Athletics Congratulations to our skilled athletes who also excelled on the day. Four representatives in the High jump event going to North Coast must be a record.
