Dear Friends,We wish you could have been here for the celebration! In December 2012, our families, staff & board gathered for Ten Years of Birchtree Talent, an event marking Birchtree’s 10th year transforming the lives of children and youth with autism.

Our autism experts found ways for all Birchtree students to demonstrate their talents and skills at the event.

Some students recorded music videos; some made art to display; others helped assemble a snowman sculpture; and another led us all in an enthusiastic singing of “Happy Birthday to Birchtree.”

This celebration reminded us all just how far Birchtree’s students—and our nonprofit as a whole—have come over the past decade.

When Birchtree first opened its doors in 2002, we were a tiny nonprofit school serving just four

students with autism. Now we’re a multi-faceted agency serving hundreds across NH, ME & MA.

It’s because of good friends like you that we’ve come this far—and that we’re ready to go even further!

Birchtree’s Strategic Plan for 2013-15 is full of exciting initia-tives to enhance our programs, expand our reach, spread the word

about our students’ success, and strengthen our nonprofit’s long-term sustainability.

With your continued support, we can better meet the growing need for autism services in our community.

With warmest thanks,

Bruce Dicker President, Board of Directors

Sandra Pierce-Jordan, Ph.D., BCBA-DExecutive Director

Individual Donors In Their Own WordsWhen I had just a glimmer of hope left for my son David, Birchtree showed me the universe.

Birchtree’s staff are dedicated, patient, and they leave no stone unturned. They don’t just teach David at school—they’ve also come into our home to help us work on communication, chores, play, safety, and the list goes on.

I’ve watched my son grow from a weed to a mighty oak tree. And he is excited for school like he never was before! I’m so proud of my son and all the Birchtree staff.

—David, father of 10-year-old David, Jr.

Our Employee of the YearInstructor Laurie Hounam goes the extra mile to help Birchtree’s students succeed.

She’s here early in the morning, late at night, and on weekends preparing instructional materials and helping with school-wide projects. She not only gets her job done well, but you can also find her asking regularly if she can help others.

Her unfailingly upbeat attitude, genuine enthusiasm, and charming sense of humor make a huge difference to our students, families & staff.

Instructor Laurie Hounam offers encouragement to Alex at the gym.
