Our core strategies
Prepare all students for success after high school by:
Strengthening curriculum, instruction, and assessment
Improving educator effectiveness
Turning around the lowest performing districts and schools

Big Picture
Do our students have the right computer skills (digital
literacy) to complete online assessments?
How many students have to be tested and how long
do we have to test them (test window)?do we have to test them (test window)?
How many “devices” do we have that can be used to
test students and where are they located?
How fast/slow is the internet? Do we have the speeds
necessary to conduct the assessment?6

Concerns: overall tech readiness
Technology Readiness for Field Test: Hardware Considerations
Review the PARCC Technology Guidelines for specific hardware operating systems and tech specifications
Only count hardware in a “suitable testing environment”
Computer based test administration requires logistical planning. From experience, we suggest planning for:planning. From experience, we suggest planning for: Power strips Battery adapters for mobile devices Extension cords Headphones/ear-buds for every student External keyboards for devices Training for support staff or building personnel District support techs for testing days, if possible Extra computers per testing space

Concerns: overall tech readiness
Important Note:
PARCC suggests the following seating configurations to ensure test security:
Seat students in every other seat (useful in a lab setup).
 Arrange monitors back-to-back.
 Seat students back-to-back.
Seat students in a semicircle (useful for laptops).
Seat students in widely spaced rows or in every other row
(appropriate for a classroom setup).
Physical and visual barriers between monitors.18

Consistent Messaging from ESE
Why Are We Doing a Field Test in Spring 2014?
The test itself is being tested. No student, school or
district PARCC results will be reported.
Spring 2014 is the only PARCC field test and the one Spring 2014 is the only PARCC field test and the one
chance Massachusetts students will have to influence
which items make it on to the final PARCC assessments.

Insights: consistent messaging & constant communication
The primary purposes of the PARCC Field Test are to:
Examine the quality of the PBA and EOY items so
that PARCC can build assessment forms for the
2014-15 school year;
Pilot assessment administration procedures; and Pilot assessment administration procedures; and
Give schools and districts the opportunity to
experience the administration of PARCC
assessments.
