OVERVIEW OF THE RPL PROCESS

General Information on the Assessment Process01 for more information about RPL don’t hesitate to contact us or visit our websitewww.gqaustralia.com.au

RPL Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process for Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) in which Applicants prove that they have the skills, knowledge and experience essential to be deemed competent.

RPL Applicants must have a clear understanding of the Assessment process.

Get Qualied Australia is not an RTO, but we have Partnership Agreements with RTO’s so that we can conduct RPL Assessment on their behalf. Once the Assessment process is completed, the RTO will issue the Qualication.

You are provided a detailed RPL Information Kit before commencing with the RPL Assessment. This handy reference will help you gather suitable evidence.

The RPL Assessor assigned to complete your RPL Application is available to provide advice, guidance and support throughout the Assessment process.

Contact them if you have any questions or need clarication of suitable forms of evidence that you can use to verify your career and industry experience.

The RPL Assessment Kit provides a comprehensive streamlined system for submiting evidence to build your RPL Application.

Once you have completed the enrolment documents, you will be sent the RPL Self Assessment Kit for completion.

Self Assessment is an essential part of RPL and it will help you to clarify your level of skills, knowledge and understanding in relation to the relevant Units of Competency being assessed. At the same time, it will also assist you with compiling documentation and evidence to support your RPL Application.

RPL Assessors will conduct a review of your career history and evidence that you submit to verify if you are competent, so that a Nationally Recognised Qualication can be issued.

RPL Assessors will refer to the relevant Training Packages for each Qualication while conducting the RPL Assessment.

Skills Assessors discuss your full career history and assist you with choosing Elective Units (where applicable) that relate to your career experience, skills, knowledge and understanding.

Once you complete the RPL Self Assessment Kit, it will be returned to the Skills Assessor for thorough review and assessment.

You will be required to supply a range of detailed evidence relating to the Units of Competency selected for the Qualication.

Assessors will “map” and align this evidence to the various Elements and Performance Criteria within the Units of Competency.

Once your RPL Application is compiled by an Assessor, it is submitted to the RTO for nal review. The Qualication is issued and sent to our oce so the details can be checked. A scanned copy will be emailedand the original copy is sent to you same day via Registered Post.

Each RPL Assessment considers the individual circumstances of each Applicant, rather than relying on a “one method ts all” approach.

Our Skills Assessors will help you determine the most suitable types of evidence that you can obtain from your current or past employers.

Career evidence includes Employment Contracts, Job Descriptions and Performance Reviews. You also need to provide references and testimonials from employers, managers and industry colleagues.

Work based evidence includes reports, business plans, portfolios, completed products, work sheets, emails, photos, video, etc. You will be given an RPL Evidence Checklist to guide you with this process.

If your evidence was completed in project teams, third-party reports and additional questioning may be required to conrm your individual contribution and level of performance.

All evidence you submit is treated with strict condentiality and we can talk to your employers if they have any concerns regarding Intellectual Property Rights or Trademark issues.

Applicants have three months to complete the self assessment and submit their evidence to prove competency.

If you have valid evidence available, the RPL Assessment process will be quick and ecient. Once your RPL Application has been checked by the RTO, your Qualication is usually issued within 2 to 4 weeks.

Skills Assessors will provide regular follow up and oer professional support and guidance to help you complete the RPL Application.

RULES OF EVIDENCE

Our Skills Assessors use the “Rules of Evidence” to verify if the evidence you are submitting is relevant to the Qualication you are seeking.

RPL Applicants are required to prove their competency, so these rules must always be considered when submitting evidence for assessment.

The “Principles of Assessment” provide Assessors with means to determine if evidence is suitable for inclusion in the RPL Application.

Evidence of your skills, knowledge and experience is required to prove your competency and achieve the Qualication. This is detailed in the Training Package as Units of Competency, Elements, Performance Criteria and Employability Skills.

VALID

Assessors must verify that evidence sumitted is the Applicant’s own work and that they were responsible for preparing and developing the nal product. Evidence must reect your current skills, knowledge and experience. Any plagerism, copyright infringement or copying of evidence will not be tolerated and this could result in the cancellation of your RPL Application.

100%AUTHENTIC

Competency requires demonstration of current performance. Evidence must be from recent career experience when it is required to verify your understanding of legislation, regulations or industry codes of practice. When evidence is not recent, but still conforms with the current industry practices and standards, this evidence is acceptable.

CURRENT

Rather than focusing on the quantity of evidence, Assessors will ensure assessment decisions are based on quality evidence. Applicants must demonstrate they are competent, based on the Units of Competency for the Qualication. RPL Applicants must submit evidence to demonstrate competency over an extended period of time, across various job roles.

Instead, this is used to identify learning opportunities and additional experience that is required for an Applicant to achieve competency.

RPL Applicants are permitted to appeal Assessment decisions and to resubmit evidence for reassessment if needed. They are provided a detailed explanation of weakness in evidence submitted previously.
