Carissimi amici,

Questo numero di Gerry’s Corner prende il via in modo

davvero speciale.

La redazione del primo Digital Magazine dedicato a

Gerard Butler è lieta di annunciare l’introduzione di

un’importante novità, che al contempo rappresenta per

noi Gerry’s Ladies un punto di svolta.

Quando i primi due numeri di Gerry’s Corner

debuttarono qualche mese fa, essi furono

calorosamente accolti non solo dai fans italiani di

Gerry, ma destarono l’interesse e la curiosità tra i fans

di lingua straniera.

Pertanto abbiamo pensato di fare cosa gradita

presentando il D-Mag in veste bilingue e raggiungere

così un più ampio pubblico.

Da questo numero in avanti, avrete dunque la

possibilità di leggere la notizia tanto nella versione

tradotta in Italiano quanto nella versione originale,

oppure – se la notizia originale è in Italiano, averne a

disposizione una traduzione in Inglese.

Siamo elettrizzate da questa nuova iniziativa e

speriamo troverà buona accoglienza presso i nostri

lettori, di qualsivoglia nazionalità essi siano.

way.

The Editorial Staff of the first Digital Magazine

dedicated to Gerard Butler is glad to announce the

introduction of an important novelty, which is also a

real turning point for all of us at Gerry’s Ladies

Forum.

When the first two issues of Gerry’s Corner debuted a

few months ago, they were warmly received not only

by the Italian fans of Gerard Butler, but they stirred

the interest and curiosity of foreign fans as well.

Therefore we thought it would be nice to present our

D-Mag in a bilingual version, thus reaching a wider

reading audience.

From this issue on, You will get the opportunity to

read the news in both Italian and in its original

English version, or – in case the original news is in

Italian – read its translation in English language.

We are thrilled by these new publishing venture and

we do hope that it will be well received by our readers,

regardless of their nationality.

We thank You from the bottom of our hearts for the

all’attenzione dei fans di Gerard Butler un’importante

novità: la rivista che state sfogliando, seppur solo

digitalmente.

A pochi mesi di distanza, le Gerry’s Ladies hanno

compiuto un altro importante passo.

Progettato, organizzato e curato dalla Gerry’s Lady

questo stesso mese.

Vive in una casa davvero molto bella.

Tutto ciò che abbiamo detto al nostro scrittore è

stato che si tratta di...

UN TALE DI NOME

Abbiamo inviato uno dei nostri reporter dalla mente più aperta, un uomo ampiamente sgombro da ogni

familiarità con il nostro mondo ossessionato da Hollywood, ad intervistare questo tizio. Gli abbiamo dato un

nome di battesimo ed un indirizzo, niente di più. Eravamo piuttosto certi che Cal non avesse mai sentito parlare

di lui. Questo è ciò che è successo.

INVIO un veloce messaggio al mio

editore mentre parcheggio la

macchina: “Il ragazzo ha una bella

casa, questo è sicuro.” La porta

d’entrata mi fa sentire come se

fossi in Europa, dove una porta

potrebbe avere quattrocento anni.

Mi chiedo che lavoro faccia. Suono

il campanello ed una donna

risponde e dice di essere la

assistente di Gerry. Molto cordiale.

Mi conduce ad un sofà all’interno e

lo va a prendere. Mi siedo e mi

guardo attorno. C’è un flipper ed

un tavolo da biliardo. Come non

può piacere un tale che ha un

flipper ed un tavolo da biliardo nel

suo soggiorno? Arriva. Tipo grosso,

faccia interessante. Indossa una t-

shirt stracciata. Questo mi rilassa

ancor di più.

“Ciao, come va?”

“E’ grandioso incontrati. Sono Cal.”

Ci stringiamo le mani. Fin qui tutto

bene.

“Ce l’hai il senso dell’umorismo?”

“No, non proprio. Perché? Vuoi che

ti racconti una barzelletta, o altro?”

L’accento. Australia? Nuova

Zelanda? Di solito sono bravo in

questo. Scozzese?

“Mi è stato detto di venire a questo

indirizzo e parlare con Gerry.

Questa è la sola cosa che so di te.”

La testa di Gerry si raddrizza e la

sua faccia si divide in espressioni

opposte. I suoi occhi si

socchiudono sospettosi, ma sta

sogghignando.

“O...kay.”

“Comunque, siamo messi bene,

perché ho imparato a fare

interviste viaggiando per il mondo

– salendo sui treni e incontrando

gente. Avevo a malapena i soldi,

quindi compravo un biglietto, e

cercavo un posto a sedere vuoto di

fianco al giusto passeggero.

Qualcuno del quale pensavo di

potermi fidare e che si fidasse

abbastanza di me da portarmi a

casa con sé.”

Lo sguardo in cagnesco se ne sta

andando ed il sogghigno sta

diventando più ampio.

“E per quanto lo hai fatto?”

“Per circa dieci anni.”

“Quindi adesso ci immaginiamo di

stare su un treno?”

“Esatto.”

“Ti stanno portando da bere?”

“Esattamente”

“Puoi prendere qualsiasi cosa tu

voglia – vodka, gin?”

“Tu che prendi?”

“Io non bevo. Ma non me ne frega

niente.”

“Allora prendo dell’acqua”

“Volevi prendere qualcosa...”

“No, e ti dirò perché. La

peggior intervista che abbia

fatto fu con William Buckley,

l'opinionista conservatore.

Buckley aveva la miglior

parlantina del mondo e se

non gli piacevi, poteva ridurti

a brandelli. Quindi ero un po’

sulle spine. Sapevo che

dovevo restare concentrato.

Non avevo mangiato il giorno

prima. Mi presento alla sua

porta alle undici del mattino,

non avevo mangiato da

trentasei ore, teso come una

corda di violino, entro e lui si

sfrega le mani e chiede “Un

po’ di scotch?” Ora come

potevo bere uno scotch? Sarei

andato a corpo morto sul

tappeto. Dunque rispondo

“Che ne dice di un po’

d’acqua?” E non lo

dimenticherò mai: il naso di

Buckley si solleva lentamente in

aria dice “Ohhwwwee”. E quella è

stata la fine dell’intervista. La fece,

ma non era presente. Così ho

imparato la mia lezione: se tu stai

per mangiare termiti fritte a

pranzo, metti un posto a tavolo per

me.”

“Ma ti ho offerto da bere, e tu non

l’hai preso. Quindi sarà

un’intervista di m**da.”

Ora ce la ridiamo tutti e due.

Mi porta di sotto, in cerca di un

posto più comodo dove sederci.

“Ecco qui il mio cinema.”

“Ma Gerry, dov’è lo schermo?”

“Lo schermo viene giù. Le pareti

sono tutte imbottite. E’

fot***amente fantastico.” Pausa

“Effettivamente non volevo farti

fare un giro.”

Concordiamo che la terrazza di

sopra è il posto migliore. C’è una

vista magnifica di Los Angeles.

Gerry schiaccia un bottone e si

abbassa una tenda.”. La sua

assistente, che ha l’aura di

qualcuno che potrebbe gestire una

delle migliori 500 aziende secondo

Fortune, posa un piatto con della

frutta e dell’acqua.

“Qualunque cosa tu faccia, ho

l’impressione che tu la faccia

bene.”

Gerry sembra non comprendere

che io non so davvero cosa lui

faccia.

“Sono andato più per l’energia che

per qualcosa di grosso ed

impressionante. E’ stato grandioso

quando la mia mamma è venuta e

se ne è stata sulla balconata. Il

ragazzo sta facendo bene.”

Proprio allora, un piccolo

palloncino regalo che dice MAMMA

si alza direttamente di fronte a noi,

al di sopra degli alberi.

“Da dove ca**o arriva quel

palloncino?” dice. “Nella mia vita

mi sono capitate alcune tra le più

strane coincidenze.”

“Di dove sei?”

“Non sai nemmeno di dove sono.

Questo è incredibile. Sono di... Di

dove sono? Sono nato a Glasgow.

Ma la mia famiglia è di una piccola

città chiamata Paisley, famosa per i

cotonifici ed il disegno “paisley”.

Ad un punto gli stabilimenti

davano lavoro all’80% della città.

Alcune città progrediscono in alto

ed in avanti – come dirlo senza

perdere ogni amico che abbia

mai avuto a Paisley? – diciamo

soltanto che Paisley non è mai

riuscita a fare il grande salto.”

“C’è stato un momento della

tua infanzia nel quale sapevi

cosa saresti diventato?” Questa

sembra una bella maniera di

scoprire cosa sia diventato.

Si ferma a pensare.

“Lascia che ti faccia un

esempio. Rispondo. “Quando

Mohamed Ali era un

ragazzino, aveva l’abitudine di

stare ad un angolo di strada e

lasciava che il fratello gli

tirasse dei sassi addosso.

Quindi, lui lasciava che le

pietre lo oltrepassassero

sibilando semplicemente

muovendo la testa, cosa che

era esattamente lo stile che

utilizzò anni dopo per evitare i

pugni su un ring di box.”

“Non so se sia mai arrivato a certi

estremi” dice. “Ho passato gran

parte della mia infanzia

immaginando scenari

cinematografici nella mia testa.

Camminavo per strada fingendo di

essere nell’esercito, parlando alla

radio, e facendo manovre. Ho

sognato parecchio di interpretare

film e vivere fantasie. Avevo

moltissimi intensi sogni - alcuni di

essi terrificanti. Uno di essi era di

stare in un tunnel sottoterra, e

questo treno mi inseguiva. Ho

smontato la stanza cercando di

fuggire e poi sono sceso dalla

finestra. Mia mamma mi ha dovuto

tirare indietro prendendomi per le

gambe. Quando mi sono svegliato

pensavo che il mio cuore stesse per

esplodere. Questo era il genere di

sogni che facevo. Alcuni erano

fantastici, come andare in

skateboard attraverso i pianeti e lo

spazio. Mi svegliavo e speravo di

poter manipolare questi sogni e

controllarli. Il problema con la mia

mente è che svaria da parte a parte.

L’idea di me a fantasticare di

diventare attore velocemente ha

portato alla depressione. No, non

sarebbe mai successo a me. Ero un

ragazzetto di 16 anni dall’altra

parte del mondo rispetto a dove

facevano i film. Gli attori scozzesi

non avevano davvero speranze.

C’era Sean Connery e questo era

quanto.”

Un attore. Mi chiedo se mai lo

vedrò in qualcosa. Probabilmente

no. Fino a sei mesi fa non avevo

davvero visto molti film.

“NON SAREI diventato attore.

Sarei diventato un avvocato.

Venivo da una famiglia appena al

di sopra della classe operaia,

appena al di sotto della classe

media, una grande famiglia con

valori splendidi. L’idea che io

avessi una possibilità di prendere

la laurea in legge era allettante.

Allettante per me ma anche molto

allettante per la mia famiglia.

Wow, uno dei nostri sta studiando

legge all’università.”

C’è stato un momento in cui è

cambiato dalla legge al fare film?”

“Sì, il giorno in cui sono stato

licenziato.”

“Cosa è successo?”

“In un certo modo ho sempre avuto

la fortuna del diavolo, anche alla

scuola di legge. In qualche modo

mi sono fatto strada fino alla

posizione di presidente della Law

Society (la Società che raccoglie gli

studenti della Facoltà di

Giurisprudenza - ndt). Non sono il

più accademico degli individui.

Considerando la quantità di lavoro

che ci misi è eccezionale che abbia

superato la scuola di legge con la

laurea con onori. (La laurea con

Onori è quella che si consegue

affiancando alla materia

principale un’altra materia - ndt).

“Mi sono preso del tempo e me ne

sono venuto in America. E’ così che

le cose hanno cominciato a

prendere una piega un po’ folle.

Qualcosa di molto compulsivo ed

oscuro, lascivo e piacevole ma

dannoso iniziò a prendere il

sopravvento. Fu il sapere

improvvisamente che potevo

andare in giro e vivere una vita di

viaggi, pazzia, avventura,

divertimento, donne e tutte le altre

che cose che ne conseguono,

compreso un senso di abbandono.

Stare lontano da casa e non avere

lo stesso genere di disciplina e

struttura davanti a me significava

che potevo fare quel ca**o che

volevo, e lo feci.”

“Per un periodo, vissi in un

appartamento a Venice Beach con

tre tizi irlandesi che bevevano ogni

giorno. Era perfetto Eravamo

semplicemente rovinati. Cominciai

ad avere strani lavori. Un giorno i

miei compari saltarono fuori

dicendo di aver avuto un lavoro in

un parco divertimenti che avrebbe

girato le fiere in California. In

quest’anno lontano dalla scuola, ho

fatto molte cose. Ho guidato da Los

Angeles a Miami, da Los Angeles a

Chicago, da Miami a Chicago. E

continuavo ad essere arrestato per

cose stupide – fondamentalmente

per l’essere troppo ubriaco. Ero

fuori controllo, e lo giustificato con

questa idea che Sono giovane,

questa è vita. Questo sono

semplicemente io che mi comporto

in modo sfrenato. Ricordo che una

volta fui arrestato e mi misero

davvero ai ferri. Stavo andando in

giro incatenato ad altri otto

uomini. E tecnicamente, ero ancora

presidente della Law Society di

Glasgow.

Sono finito alla prigione della

Contea di Los Angeles. Ero in cella

con addosso i miei 501 e la mia

giacca di pelle aderente e i capelli

lunghi, pensando di essere Jim

Morrison. Non riesco a credere che

ne sto parlando. Farei meglio a non

farlo.”

Sorride.

“Ca**o, delle belle storie,

comunque. Quindi, poi, sono

dovuto tornare e fare l’anno finale

all’università. Quello è l’anno in cui

vai all’esterno ad imparare il

lavoro, non solo studiando la

teoria. Vai a lavorare in un vero

studio legale. Per il tempo che sono

tornato, tutti lavori importanti

erano andati. Eccetto per uno

studio (lo Studio Legale Morton-

Fraser, Edinburgo. E' uno dei tanti

studi che cura gli affari della Casa

Reale in Scozia - ndt). C’erano

duecento domande per quel posto,

ed avevano parlato con solo

quattro persone.

“Ero proprio fuori dal giro quando

ho fatto il colloquio. Avevo fatto un

esame il giorno prima, ed eravamo

tutti un po’ incasinati quella sera.

Mi sono dovuto alzare il giorno

dopo ed andare ad Edinburgo.

Mancai il colloquio, ma lo studio

disse “No, no, ti aspettiamo”.

Quindi salii sul treno e – come

posso spiegarmi? – Ho usato

qualche ‘aiutino’ per alzarmi e per

l’ora che arrivai, non mi si poteva

far stare zitto. E’ finita che feci un

colloquio eccezionale ed ebbi il

lavoro. Ma quando mi misi

completo e cravatta, divenni

disperatamente infelice. C’era

qualcos’altro al lavoro, qualcosa

sulla quale non avevo controllo.

Non avessi mandato quel lavoro a

p****ne non starei seduto qui ora.”

“NON SAI NEMMENO DI

DOVE SONO. QUESTO E’

INCREDIBILE. SONO DI... DI

DOVE SONO? LA MIA

FAMIGLIA E’ DI UNA

PICCOLA CITTA’ DI NOME

PAISLEY, FAMOSA PER I

SUOI COTONIFICI E PER IL

MOTIVO ‘PAISLEY’ “

Avrei potuto essere un avvocato

molto mediocre in qualche piccola

città nel centro della Scozia. Mi

sono fatto una reputazione

piuttosto cattiva nei circoli legali

scozzesi. E’ molto difficile essere

licenziato da avvocato-tirocinante

– semplicemente non ti fanno

qualificare al termine dei due anni.

Ma effettivamente mi licenziarono

una settimana prima che mi

qualificassi. Avrei dovuto

aspettarmelo. Era in corso il

Festival di Edinburgo. Sapevo che

non ce l’avrei fatta a superare il

festival, perché era da pazzi –

festival della commedia, festival

musicali, festival di danza e, più di

ogni altra cosa, festival di bevute.

La città è su di giri. Andai a vedere

una produzione di Trainspotting.

Il personaggio principale entra in

scena, si tira indietro e racconta, e

poi salta di nuovo in scena. Il tale

che interpretava il ruolo

protagonista (il personaggio di

Renton, ndt) era fenomenale. C’era

una tale atmosfera. E io stavo

morendo dentro. Questa era la vita

che volevo vivere. Lo posso fare. So

di poterlo fare. Ma è passato, ora.

E’ andato. Ho 25 anni. Ho perso

l’opportunità. Una settimana dopo

mi hanno licenziato.”

Gerry mi racconta quanto fosse

umiliato quando lo raccontò a sua

madre. Tutto era perduto, fuorché i

sogni. Il giorno successivo era

partito per Londra.

“Conoscevo una direttrice del

casting che lavorava in piccole

produzioni teatrali. Era molto

schietta. Mi disse: ‘Alcuni dei miei

migliori amici che si sono spaccati

la schiena andando alla scuola

d’arte drammatica non riescono ad

avere lavoro’. Quindi facevo

telemarketing, andando in giro per

centri commerciali cercando di far

interessare la gente ai computer

quando nemmeno io sapevo cosa

stavo vendendo. Poi, questa

direttrice di casting mi disse che

potevo assisterla dando le pagine

agli attori per una commedia

realizzata da Seven Berkoff.

Berkoff era piuttosto famoso a

Londra per il suo teatro dallo stile

fisico e d’avanguardia, e fu poi

ridicolizzato a mano a mano che

diventava sempre più esagerato e

fuori di testa. Ma era una specie di

genio. Comunque, incontrai

Berkoff in una caffetteria al piano

di sotto e dissi “Mi piacerebbe fare

una lettura di questo.” Lui rispose

“Certo. Perché no.”

"Ce l'ho messa tutta. In seguito, la

direttrice del casting è venuta da

me quasi in lacrime. Disse 'Sei il

migliore che abbia visto in due

giorni!' Il ritorno a casa fu

probabilmente il momento più

felice della mia vita, quando c'è in

te un'energia che non può essere

abbattuta. Ero passato dal passare

le pagine ad avere il ruolo

principale."

"POSSO usare il bagno?"

"Sì. Probabilmente sei la persona

mondo, e sarò umiliato quando

questo verrà fuori."

"No, mi sono trasferito a Los

Angeles sei mesi fa. Guardo un film

praticamente ogni sera, cercando

di mettermi a pari. Hai visto la lista

di Esquire dei 75 film che ogni

uomo dovrebbe vedere? E' nel

numero con Megan Fox."

"Non l'ho guardata. Stavo per

guardarla, ma non riuscivo ad

Gerry tira su la rivista.

300 Things We Didn't Know About Gerard Butler

We sent one of our most open-minded reporters, a man largely unsullied by any familiarity with our Hollywood-obsessed world, to interview this guy. We gave him a first name and an address, nothing more. We were pretty certain Cal had never heard of him. This is what happened. By Cal Fussman

I send a quick text to my editor as I park the car: "Guy's got a nice house, that's for sure." The front door makes me feel as if I'm in Europe, where a door could be four hundred years old. Wonder what he does. I ring the bell and a woman answers and says she's Gerry's assistant. Very cordial. She leads me to a couch inside and goes to get him. I sit, look around. There's a pinball machine and a pool table. How can you not like a guy who has a pinball machine and a pool table in his living room?

Here he comes. Big guy, interesting face. He's wearing a ripped T-shirt. That relaxes me even more.

"Hey, how you doin'?"

"Great to meet you. I'm Cal."

We shake hands. So far, so good.

"Have you got a sense of humor?"

"No, not really. Why? You want me to tell you a joke or something?"

The accent. Australia? New Zealand? I'm usually pretty good at this. Scottish?

"I was told to come to this address and have a conversation with Gerry. That's the only thing I know about you."

Gerry's head cocks, and his face splits into opposing expressions. His eyes squint with suspicion, but he's grinning.

"O... kay."

"We're in good shape, though, because I learned to interview while traveling around the world — getting on trains and meeting people. I hardly had any money, so I'd buy a ticket and look for an empty seat next to the right passenger. Someone I thought I could trust, and who'd trust me enough to take me home with them."

The squint is going away, and the grin is becoming wider.

"And how long did you do this for?"

"About ten years."

"So we're going to imagine we're on a train right now?"

"That's right."

"Do you have a drink coming?"

"Exactly."

"You can have whatever you want — vodka, gin?"

"What are you going to have?"

"I don't drink. But I don't give a shit."

"I'll have some water then."

"You were going to have something — "

"Nah, and I'll tell you why. The worst interview I ever did was with William Buckley, the conservative commentator. Buckley had the world's greatest vocabulary, and if he didn't like you, he could cut you to shreds. So I was a little on edge. I knew I had to be focused. I didn't eat the day before. I show up at his door at eleven in the morning, haven't eaten in thirty-six hours, sharp as a razor. I go in, and he rubs his palms together and asks, 'A little Scotch?' Now, how can I drink Scotch? I'll go nose first into the carpet. So I say, 'How about a little water?' And I'll never forget this: Buckley's nose slowly lifts into the air, and he says, 'Ohhwwwe.' And that was the end of the interview. He went through with it, but he wasn't there. So I learned my lesson: If you're having fried termites for lunch, set me a place at the table."

"But I offered you a drink, and you didn't take it. So it's goin' to be a crap interview."

Now we're both laughing.

He leads me downstairs, looking for the most comfortable place to sit.

"Here's my cinema."

"But Gerry, where's the screen?"

"The screen comes down. The walls are all padded. It's fucking amazing." Pause. "I didn't actually intend to give a tour."

We agree that the balcony upstairs is the best spot. There's a magnificent view of L. A. Gerry hits a button and an awning lowers. His assistant, who has the aura of someone who could be running a Fortune 500 company, sets down a fruit plate and some water.

"Whatever you do, I get the impression that you do it well."

Gerry seems not to comprehend that I truly don't know what he does.

"I went more for the energy than for something big and bombastic. It was great when my mom came over and stood on the balcony. The boy did good."

Just then, a small gift balloon that says MOM rises directly in front of us, out above the trees.

"Where the fuck did that balloon come from?" he says. "I've had some of the craziest synchronicities in my life."

"Where are you from?"

"You don't even know where I'm from. This is unbelievable. I'm from... where am I from? I was born in Glasgow. But my family is pretty much from a little town called Paisley, famous for its cotton mills and paisley pattern. At one point the mills employed 80 percent of the town. Some towns progress forward and upward — how do I say this without losing every friend I ever

had in Paisley? — let's just say Paisley never managed to make that quantum leap."

"Was there a moment in your childhood when you knew who you'd become?" This seems like a good way to find out what he's become.

He stops to consider.

"Let me give you an example," I say. "When Muhammad Ali was a kid, he used to stand on a street corner and let his brother throw rocks at him. Then he'd make the rocks whiz past him simply by moving his head, which was exactly the style he used years later to avoid punches in a boxing ring."

"I don't know if I ever went to those extremes," he says. "I did spend a lot of my childhood playing out movie scenarios in my head. I'd walk along the road, pretending like I was in the army, talking on the radio, and doing maneuvers. I dreamt a lot about performing in movies and living in fantasies. I had a lot of powerful dreams — some of them terrifying. One was about being in an underground tunnel, and this train was coming behind me. I smashed up my room trying to get away and then climbed out the window. My mom had to pull me back in by my legs. When I woke up, I thought my heart was going to explode. These were the kind of dreams I had. Some were fantastical, like skateboarding through planets and space. I'd wake up and wish I could manipulate these dreams and control them.

"The problem with my mind is it sways from side to side. The idea of me fantasizing about becoming an actor quickly led to depression. No, it was never going to happen to me. I was a sixteen-year-old kid on the other side of the world from where they made movies. Scottish actors never really got play. There was Sean Connery, and that was it."

An actor. I wonder if I've seen him in anything. Probably not. Until six months ago, I really hadn't seen many movies.

"I wasn't going to be an actor. I was going to be a lawyer. I came from a family just above working class, just below middle class, a great family of wonderful values. The idea of me having a chance for a law degree was enticing. Enticing to me but also very enticing to my family. Wow, one of our own is studying law at university!"

"Was there a moment when it turned from law to making movies?"

"Yeah. The day I got fired."

"What happened?"

"I've always kind of had the luck of the devil, even in law school. I kind of blagged my way into the position of president of the Law Society. I'm not the most academic of guys. Considering the amount of work that I put in, it's amazing that I got through law school. And with an honors degree.

"I took some time off and went to America. This is when things started to go a little crazy. Something very compulsive and dark and lusty and pleasurable but damaging took over. It was suddenly knowing I could go out and have a life of traveling, craziness, adventure, partying, women, and all the other things that go with that — including a sense of abandonment. Being away from home and not having the same kind of discipline and structure in front of me meant I could do whatever the fuck I wanted, and I did.

"For a while, I was living in an apartment in Venice Beach with three Irish guys who drank every day. It was perfect. We just got smashed. I started getting odd jobs. My buddies turned up one day and said they'd gotten a job working in a carnival that was going around the state fairs in California. In this year out of school, I did many things. I drove from L. A. to Miami, from L. A. to Chicago, from Miami to Chicago. And I kept getting arrested for stupid stuff — basically just being too drunk. I was out of control, and justifying it with this idea that I'm young, this is life. This is me just being boisterous. I remember getting arrested once and they actually put me in shackles. I was walking around chained to eight other guys. And technically, I was still president of the Law Society in Glasgow.

"I ended up in L. A. County Jail. I was in a cell with my 501s and my tight leather jacket and my long hair thinking I was Jim Morrison. I can't believe I'm talking about this. I'd better not."

He smiles.

"Fuck, some good stories, though. So then I had to go back and do a final year at university. That's the year you go out and learn the

job, not just study theory. You go out to work at a real law firm. By the time I got back, all the big jobs were gone. Except for one firm. There were two hundred applications for that firm, and they were only taking four people.

"I was really out of it when I did the interview. I had done an exam the day before, and we were all a bit of a mess that night. I had to get up the next morning and travel to Edinburgh. I missed the interview, but the firm said, 'No, no, we'll wait for you.' So I get on a train and — how should I put this? — I used a few aids to get up, and by the time I arrived, you couldn't shut me up. I ended up having a great interview and getting the job. But when I put on a suit and a tie, I became desperately unhappy. There was something else at work, something I didn't have control of. If I hadn't fucked up that job, I wouldn't be sitting here right now. I might be a very mediocre lawyer in some small town in the middle of Scotland.

"I became quite infamous in Scottish legal circles. It's very difficult to be fired as a trainee lawyer — they just don't qualify you at the end of two years. But they actually fired me one week before I was due to qualify. I should have seen it coming. The Edinburgh Festival was going. I knew I wasn't going to make it through the festival because it's crazy — comedy festivals, music festivals, dancing festivals, and more than anything, drinking festivals. The city is aglow. I went to see a production of Trainspotting. The lead character acts in the scene, steps back and narrates, and then jumps back into the scene. The guy playing the lead role was phenomenal. It was such an incredible atmosphere. And I'm dying inside. This is the life I wanted to live. I can do this. I know I can do this.But it's past now. It's gone. I'm twenty-five. I missed that opportunity. A week later, they fire me."

Gerry tells me how humiliated he was when he told his mother. Everything was lost, except the dreams. The next day he went to London.

"I did know a casting director who worked small theater productions. She was very blunt. She said, 'Some of my best friends who've busted their fucking balls going through drama school can't get jobs.' So I was doing telemarketing, walking around shopping malls trying to get people interested in computers when I didn't even know what I was selling. Then this casting director said I could assist her in giving out pages to the actors for a play done by Steven Berkoff. Berkoff was kind of famous in London for his avant-garde, physical style of theater and then became ridiculed as he became more and more over-the-top and insane. But he is a bit of a genius. Anyway, I ran into Berkoff in the coffee shop downstairs and said, 'I'd love to read for this.' He said, 'Sure, why not?'

"I gave it everything. Afterward, the casting director came up to me almost in tears. She said, 'You're the best he saw in two days!' Walking home was probably the happiest moment of my life, when there's an energy in you that can't be put down. I'd gone from handing out pages to getting the lead role."

"Can I use the bathroom?"

"Sure. You can use the one off my room. Let me show you where it is."

We walk past a table, and on it is a recent issue of Esquire. The cover shows Megan Fox, a stunning actress whose work I haven't seen.

"Look at this. After Megan Fox, who's ever going to want to look at me on the cover of Esquire?"

You gotta be kidding me, I'm thinking. Nobody told me this was a cover story. An oh-shit feeling floods my stomach. No wonder the editors requested a three-hour interview.

I have to ask sooner or later.

"What movies have you been in?"

A pause.

"Phantom of the Opera."

"You were in Phantom of the Opera?"

I'm startled by the way the word you comes out of my mouth. It sounds like I don't believe him.

"Yeah."

"What character?"

"I played the phantom."

"You can sing like you're in an opera?"

"I'd had maybe four singing lessons when I went to sing 'Music of the Night' for Andrew Lloyd Webber, which was perhaps the most nerve-racking experience I ever went through. But I got the role. Some people thought I did a great job, but others thought it was sacrilegious."

"What else have you done?"

"I did 300. You must know about 300."

"No."

"Fuckin' A?"

"Hold on! Hold on! Was that the movie about all those warriors that was sort of animated? I didn't see it, but my son loved it."

"I played Leonidas, the lead. You must know that. You're putting me on. It doesn't bother me. I'm just like — wow."

"Never saw it. But I remember it being a big deal. I remember the poster — all these hulking warriors. You know what stands out to me from that image? I remember a beard."

"I was the one with the beard!"

"Okay, Phantom.300. What else?"

"P. S. I Love You. That's a romantic comedy with Hilary Swank. It's kind of beautiful and funny. Richard LaGravenese wrote and directed it. He wrote Bridges of Madison County. Don't know why I'm telling you, because you won't know it."

"That one I do! Because I interviewed Clint Eastwood. He was in that one, right?"

"Yes. You're probably the world's biggest movie buff, and I'm going to be humiliated when this comes out."

"No, I moved to L. A. six months ago. I've been watching a movie almost every night, trying to catch up. Did you see Esquire's list of the seventy-five movies every man should see? It's in the Megan Fox issue."

"I haven't looked at it. I was gonna look at it, but I couldn't get past Megan Fox."

Gerry picks up the issue.

"It plays out over several pages," I say.

Gerry studies.

"300 will definitely be on this list. It's not gonna be a real list without 300. If there's ever a movie that a man should see, it's 300."

He looks at the first page. Evidently, 300 is not on that page, but Gerry nods his approval. He flips.

"There are some great movies in here."

Apparently 300 is not on the following page, either.

"Fuckers!"

Few people on the planet can say "Fuckers!" as hilariously as Gerry. He turns the page.

"Fuck!"

"Fuck!"

"Fuckers!"

"You fuckers!"

He's running out of pages.

"Cool Hand Luke — that's one of my favorites. You know, this is a great list. But how could they not put 300 in here? Fuckers."

"Well, I'll rent it tonight. What else have you done that I should see?"

"Well, Dear Frankie's a gem."

"I'll watch 'em all."

"But if you weren't to watch any of them, it wouldn't hurt me in the slightest. So don't feel that obligation."

"I'm always more curious to see an actor's films after I meet him."

"Well, then, you can have Gerry Butler week. If you want, you can watch them in my movie room. It's a great room. Hey, doesn't have to be movies that I'm in. You can come back and watch all the movies you want in it."

Now that it's established that we're just two strangers who don't know anything about each other, Gerry asks me some questions.

"What about women? Did you meet some nice woman along your trip around the world?"

"Yeah. As you can see, nobody is going to confuse me for a matinee idol. But when I walked into a small town on the other side of the world, I became exotic. All of a sudden, I was handsome. It was great."

"Fantastic. You didn't meet your wife that way?"

"I did," I say. "I met her aboard a bus on the way to a beach in Brazil."

"You're fucking kidding me. Is she Brazilian?"

"Yeah."

"Bastard!"

"Have you ever been married?"

"No."

"Wow."

"I know. People would go, 'That's great. You're still young.' Over the last couple years, though, it's become, 'Wow. Really? Why?' "

"This must sound crazy coming from me, but it must be hard when people know who you are."

"You know what's funny? In the last year, there have probably been rumors of ten different women I'm supposed to be involved with. I think maybe one is true. You can walk around with a hundred of your buddies and it's cool, but the second there's a woman involved..."

"So any actress who you're seen with, it's automatically assumed?"

"Not always. But the new one is Jennifer Aniston. I start filming with her in two weeks. I think it's because she's single and I'm single. The sum total of our conversation was about four minutes at the Toronto Film Festival. The next day, the story is: Gerry Butler and Jennifer Aniston get cozy at the Toronto Film Festival. Cozy? We were standing up and surrounded by forty people."

GERRY goes to change for his next appointment. I head to the kitchen to say goodbye to his very precise assistant, whose job it is to kick me out.

A few months from now, it's likely that I would've found out who Gerry is. I do live in L. A. now. And he's got a lot of big movies coming out. There's The Ugly Truth with Katherine Heigl, who sounds pretty hot. Then there's Gamer, which appears to be a cross between The Matrix (which I just saw for the first time) and American Idol.Law Abiding Citizen, which Gerry produced, stars Jamie Foxx. And I probably would've been roped into taking my seven-year-old to How to Train Your Dragon. Plus, there's that comedy with Jennifer Aniston, Bounty Hunter.

Suddenly, music envelops the house. The sound is huge. I can feel it in my bones. It's the soundtrack to The Phantom of the Opera. Gerry's voice booms through the speakers, singing "Music of the Night." He steps into the kitchen and begins to sing along.

Deep into the song, he lingers on the word so for what seems like half a minute. As he stands there next to the refrigerator, his voice and the recording perfectly align.

The song ends. We stand in a comfortable silence.

The assistant says, "Your car is waiting, Gerry."

con la star emergente Elizabeth Olsen, la quale ci ha

Abbiamo anche parlato con Jessica Chastain, che è

coprotagonista di The Help, a proposito del suo ruolo.

Ci ha raccontato che sua nonna era una grande fan

del libro, per cui ha in programma di portarla con sé

alla prima la settimana prossima, ed è in verità un po’

nervosa di vedere quanto le piacerà l’adattamento

cinematografico!

Several big stars stepped out this afternoon for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's annual luncheon. Leonardo DiCaprio, Taylor

Lautner, Gerard Butler, and Mark Wahlberg all took the podium inside the yearly event. The lunch gives the HFPA, the voting body behind the

Golden Globe Awards, the opportunity to recognize its officers and raise money for entertainment nonprofits. It wasn't only the men of

Hollywood who were on hand for the festivities — Lea Michele, Elizabeth Olsen, and Elisabeth Moss also walked the red carpet. We had a

chance to catch up with rising star Elizabeth Olsen, who told us that while it's too early to talk about Very Good Girls, in which she's

reportedly starring opposite Dakota Fanning, the two actually know each other outside of work. In fact, the two met when Elizabeth gave

Dakota a tour of her North Hollywood high school, where Dakota ended up going. We also chatted with Jessica Chastain, who costars in The

Help, about the role. She told us her grandmother was a big fan of the book, so she's planning to bring her along to the premiere next week,

L’attore dimagrito è uscito allo scoperto per il pranzo (con altri belli di Hollywood come Taylor Lautner) alla Hollywood Foreign Press Association di oggi. Le celebrità sono fioccate al Beverly Hotel giovedì, dove le persone che assegnano i Golden Globe hanno consegnato più di un milione di dollari in donazioni a varie organizzazioni artistiche. spiccioli, gente! Chi ha i conti? Gerard, Taylor ed altri hanno contribuito a consegnare i fondi all’evento, che sono stati assegnati a 46 organizzazioni educative e senza scopo di lucro. The slimmed-down actor stepped our for lunch (along with other

Hollywood hotties like Taylor Lautner) to the Hollywood

Foreign Press Association Luncheon today. Celebs descended

upon the Beverly Hotel on Thursday, where the people who put

together the Golden Globe Awards presented over $1 million in

grants to various arts organizations.

That’s some serious money, honey! Who got the bills?

Gerald, Taylor and more helped hand out the funds at the private

event, which were presented to 46 nonprofit and educational

organizations. Good works don’t come cheap!

Up next, Gerard will appear in Coriolanus as a fallen hero who

takes revenge upon the city of Rome

Gerard attended Ryan’s wedding in Italy last month, where he

Hollywood star Gerard Butler joins Celtic for charity match

The Bounty Hunter star is to don the hoops against Manchester United for east Africa famine appeal. Hollywood actor Gerard Butler is to play for Celtic in a charity match against Manchester United to help raise money to tackle famine in east Africa, the Glasgow club has announced. The lifelong Celtic fan will pull on the famous hooped jersey for the first time in the "legends" charity match, which will see a host of former players and celebrity fans from both sides battle it out at Parkhead on Tuesday. A club spokesperson said The Bounty Hunter star is "delighted at getting the opportunity to play at Celtic Park". The 41-year-old Paisley-born actor, who rose to fame in action film 300, will be joined in the Parkhead side by Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton and manager Neil Lennon. Former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton, boxer Steve Collins and The View band members Pete Reilly and Kyle Falconer will also be in the line-up. Meanwhile, former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan will pull on his former jersey to suit up for Manchester United. He will be joined by Teddy Sheringham, Dwight Yorke and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to raise money for the crisis.Other celebrities playing for the visitors include singers Richard Ashcroft, Tinchy Stryder and Simon Webbe and former Have I Got News For You host Angus Deayton. I wish I had a six-pack like that! Celtic legend Henrik Larsson can't hide his envy over Gerard Butler's muscles during charity football match

Back in the day, Henrik Larsson was one of the hottest football heartthrobs in Sweden.

But, as he sat in the changing room with Gerard Butler this afternoon, ahead of a charity football match, Larsson couldn't help casting an

envious glance at the Hollywood actor's incredibly muscular physique.

As Butler stuck his tongue out at the cameras while putting his top on, Larsson could be seen in the corner, failing to mask his jealousy over

the 300 star's six-pack.

Butler was just one of the celebrities who took to the football field for Celtic as the team took on Manchester United in a charity football match

to help raise money to tackle famine in East Africa.

Lifelong Celtics fan Butler couldn't hide his delight as he took to the field at Parkhead for the legends match.

The 41-year-old star was seen beaming as he made his way into the stadium in his white T-shirt and beige trousers, taking the time to have

photographs taken with fans.

Champion boxer Ricky Hatton, boxer Steve Collins and The View band members Pete Reilly and Kyle Falconer also played in the game, while

former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan's appearance for the Manchester United side added to the atmosphere.

He joined Teddy Sheringham, Dwight Yorke and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer to raise cash for the famine crisis.

And Richard Ashcroft, Tinchy Strider and Simon Webbe from Blue were joined by former Have I Got News For You host Angus Deayton for

visiting team Manchester United.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon said before the match he was 'very excited' about the upcoming game.

He said: 'Manchester United have had some great teams over the years, and a lot of the players will be turning up for that.

'The history of our club was that it was started as a charitable organisation for Irish immigrants in Glasgow and we have carried that

through year after year on donating to charity ever since.

'The majority of the proceeds will go to the East African famine and a portion of the gate receipts will go to a young player John Kennedy,

who's now working at the club.

'He tragically retired very early in his career and he was a great talent which was lost due to a horrific injury.

'We just hope on the night it's a great occasion and we get a lot of people through the turnstiles.'

ma ci sono ancora gruppi che trasmettono il loro

messaggio per il quale ci sono persone che hanno

ancora bisogno di aiuto. Gli Artists for Peace and

prima del devastante terremoto nel 2010. Hanno

tenuto un evento per la raccolta di fondo all'AME di

anti-colera molto velocemente, 36 ore prima che il

colera arrivasse a Port-au-Prince avevamo aperto un

centro anti-colera e fino ad ora abbiamo avuto 10mila

pazienti. 5mila di questi sarebbero morti in 24 ore

senza di esso - gran parte dei quali bambini. I

davvero orgoglioso che stiamo contribuendo a dare

forza alle persone di Haiti e non ad andare laggiù

PH: Beh, George è un membro del nostro consiglio e

sono rivolto subito a lui chiedendogli se avesse voluto

fare parte e lui subito rispose 'assolutamente'. Ero

elettrizzato che l'abbia fatto.

George, devi essere molto orgoglioso non solo di far

parte ma anche di essere nel consiglio della APJ?

George Stroumboulopoulos: Già, non so se sono più

orgoglioso o eccitato. Voglio dire, mi conosci, giusto?

Sai che se sento che sto facendo qualcosa allora ho la

sensazione che non sto sprecando tempo come essere

umano. Non sono inconsapevole di quanto strano sia

avere un qualsiasi genere di immagine - hai molti

benefici. Generalmente se ne è molto imbarazzati - in

special modo i Canadesi - quindi questa è una

possibilità di fare ciò che si supponga tu faccia come

essere umano, fare quelle cose che faranno felici la

mia mamma, le cose che lei mi ha insegnato a fare da

ragazzo e a stare con persone che davvero vogliono

che le cose siano fatte. Sono davvero entusiasta. Paul

non è uno di quei tipi che fa le cose per l'immagine, fa

le cose perché sa che può fare in modo che le cose

siano fatte. Non gliene frega nulla dell'immagine.

Penso che sia piuttosto notevole.

E speri di andare a Haiti tu stesso?

GS: Sì, stiamo parlando del viaggio proprio ora,

appena non stiamo girando - ogni volta che possiamo

andare là.

Gerard Butler ha affermato che il tempismo con cui

ha scoperto la APJ è stata una passa coincidenza:

terremoto. Ero con i miei agenti, i quali mi stavano

raccontando di questa fantastica organizzazione che

era già coinvolta a Haiti. Due giorni dopo quello, si è

verificato il terremoto. E’ sembrata quasi una bizzarra

sincronia, sai? Una chiamata per me, ed

immediatamente mi sono messo in contatto con Paul

Haggis e gli ho detto, 'cosa posso fare?' Organizzò i

viaggi così rapidamente (se avessero bisogno di una

brava con la logistica – ndt) e raccolse un incredibile

monte di soldi e fondamentalmente partì. Il primo

giorno in cui eravamo sul posto ed ora stiamo

continuando questo programma educativo, ed il

programma alimentare. E’ piuttosto incredibile.

Quello che stasera stiamo celebrando è che abbiamo

aperto la prima ala della scuola per 700 studenti e per

la fine della prossimo anno arriveranno a 3000. E’

una cosa abbastanza incredibile da portare avanti. Ci

sono un paio di modi differenti per affrontare la cosa

– si potrebbe prestare l’aiuto di base e semplicemente

combatterci contro o puoi entrarci dentro a questo

livello che guarda davvero ad un futuro a lungo

termine per i ragazzi. Mi fa talmente sorridere essere

coinvolto con la causa di questa gente perché penso

che sia bellissimo.

Non possiamo dimenticare che questo è il TIFF, un

festival del cinema. Gerard è qui anche per

promuovere il film Machine Gun Preacher – dove

interpreta Sam Childers, un ex biker spacciatore che

ha trovato Dio ed è diventato un difensore di

centinaia di bambini sudanesi che sono stati obbligati

a diventare soldati. Gli abbiamo chiesto se aiutare gli

APJ gli ha dato una certa affinità al suo personaggio.

Butler: Assolutamente sì. Non è perché l’ho fatto,

perché non sapevo – a quel punto – che avrei fatto

MGP. Quello di cui sono stato testimone quando

andai ad Haiti e la semplice natura di quello chef

anno e di ciò che ho visto – lo stesso di chiunque altro

– è molto simile a quello che Sam Childers ha

sperimentato quando andò per la prima volta in

Africa e si imbatté in cose così potenti da essere quasi

incredibili ee cambiano la sua intera vita. Così, sai, sì.

Ero decisamente molto alimentato dalla mia

esperienza.

It's easy to get caught up in all the premières, parties and celeb

spotting in Toronto during TIFF, but there are still groups getting

their message out that some peoples still need help. Artists for

Peace and Justice has been working in Haiti's poorest areas since

before their devastating earthquake in 2010. They held a

fundraising event at Toronto's AME, with the public being invited

to pay $150 for a ticket to rub shoulders with some Hollywood

Elite, like Gerard Butler, Jason Reitman and the founder of APJ,

Ontario's Gemini, Emmy and Oscar winner Paul Haggis. Our

very own George Stroumboulopoulos was hosting the event

alongside them.

APJ are working to build schools in Haiti, have worked to prevent

cholera and their ultimate goal is to build and run a university on

the island. The $150 cost of the ticket will cover the cost of a

uniform, books and supplies for an Academy for Peace and

Justice student for a full school year. 100% of the money raised is

going to APJ, and this year's event was a record breaker. Since

2009, the APJ events in Toronto have raised around $300,000.

On Friday night, Haggis had raised over $400,000 before

walking in the door, breaking their previous fundraising records.

We were lucky enough to have a word with the hosts:

What is it that keeps bringing you back to Toronto?

Paul Haggis: Well, it's Canada, and it's Toronto - I gotta come,

right? No, I love it here. I love the film festival, I was born 100

miles from here so I've been coming to the festival since it began. I

love it here.

Are you overwhelmed at all by all the positive response you're

getting?

PH: I'm very grateful for it. Very grateful. We've raised over

$400,000 tonight before walking in the door. That's pretty cool.

Every year it doubles, and we'll raise a lot more. We really need

the money - that school alone will cost us $1,000,000 a year to

run and it's costing us several million to build. The land alone

there cost us $1.6m to buy - things are expensive in Haiti, it's an

island. We built our cholera centre very quickly, 36 hours before

cholera got to Port-au-Prince we had a cholera centre open and

we've had 10,000 patients so far. 5,000 of those would have died

in 24 hours without it - most of those kids. Kids just die like that

from cholera. We had it open and we're just really good at finding

and trusting the right people. All Haitians, the folks that build our

school - Haitian architects, Haitian structuralists, designers,

Haitian engineers, same with everybody else - Haitian doctors.

We bring in volunteers but still, I'm really proud that we're

helping empower the people of Haiti and not walk in there as neo-

colonialists and say 'I know what's best' - they make the decisions.

What made you want to work with our man George?

PH: Well George is a member of our board and one of the first

people I reached out to when we decided to start APJ Canada.

He's one of the most trusted voices in Canada and he's also -

besides a great interviewer - a great guy. So I reached out to him

right away and asked if he'd be a part of this and he said right

away, absolutely. I was thrilled that he did.

George, you must be pretty proud to be not just part of APJ but on

the board as well?

George Stroumboulopoulos: Yeah, I don't know that I'm proud as

much as I'm excited. I mean, you know me right? You know that if

I feel like I'm doing something then I feel like I'm not wasting my

time as a human. I'm not unaware of how bizarre it is to have any

kind of profile - you get a lot of perks. You're generally - especially

Canadians - embarrassed about it so this is a chance to do what

you're supposed to do as a human being, to do the stuff that will

make my Mom happy, stuff that she taught me to do as a kid and

to be around other people who really want to get it done. I'm

really excited. Paul isn't one of those guys who does stuff for the

profile, he does stuff 'cause he knows he can get stuff done. He

doesn't give a sh*t about the profile. I think that's pretty

remarkable.

And you're hoping to head out to Haiti yourself?

GS: Yeah, we're talking about the trip right now, just whenever

we're not shooting - whenever we can get there.

I had been told about Artists for Peace and Justice - this sounds

crazy - but two days before the earthquake. I'd been with my

agents who were telling me about this great organisation who

were already involved in Haiti. Two days after that, the

earthquake happened. It almost seemed like weird synchronicity,

y'know? A calling for me, and immediately I got in touch with

Paul Haggis and said, 'what can I do?' He put the trips together

so quickly and raised an incredible amount of money and

basically went in. The first day they were on the scene and now

are continuing this education program, and the food program.

It's pretty incredible. What we're celebrating tonight is that we

just basically opened the first wing of the school for 700 students

and by the end of next year we'll be up at 3,000. That's a pretty

incredible thing to pull off. There's a couple of different ways to go

about it - you could be basic aid and just struggling with that or

you can go in at this level which really looking at the long term

future for the kids. It just gives me such a big smile to be involved

with these guys 'cause I think it's beautiful.

We can't forget that this is TIFF, a film festival. Gerard is also

here promoting the film Machine Gun Preacher - where he plays

Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing biker who found God and

became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who've

been forced to become soldiers. We asked if helping with APJ gave

him a certain kinship with his character.

Butler: Absolutely it did yeah. It's not why I did it, because I didn't

know I was going to do MGP at that point. What I witnessed

when I went down to Haiti and just the nature of what they do

and what I saw - the same as anybody else - is very similar to

what Sam Childers experienced when he first went down to Africa

and came across things so powerful as to almost be unbelievable

and change his whole life. So, y'know, yeah. I definitely was fed a

lot by my experience.

star Michelle Monaghan in Toronto

There's no doubt about it: Gerard Butler is a ham.

The Scottish actor mugged his way down the red carpet during the Toronto Film Festival premiere of his new movie, Machine Gun Preacher.

He posed with fans, made faces at photographers and saluted the crowd at Roy Thomson Hall like a sailor.

Unfortunately for Gerry, his antics couldn't detract any attention away from his glowing and gorgeous co-star, Michelle Monaghan.

While the 41-year-old actor made faces and posed with fans, the actress simply smiled shyly and stole the show.

She looked stunning in a white sheath dress and Brian Atwood's burgundy suede Power Studs pumps

Her footwear also happened to match her hair; its red cast was a change from her typically brunette locks.

The 35-year-old actress certainly doesn't seem like she'd be starring in an action picture, though she frequently crops up in fast-paced films

like Source Code and Mission Impossible III.

Gerry, too, usually finds himself in the midst of action fare like 300 and RocknRolla.

His latest film, Machine Gun Preacher, is the story of a former criminal turned crusader Sam Childers, who founded an orphanage in Africa.

The picture is directed by Marc Foster and also stars Michael Shannon, Madeline Carroll and Kathy Baker.

It is scheduled for a limited US release on September 23.

Si poteva sentire il sospiro di sollievo collettivo,

Domenica sera, arrivare dal settore dei cineaste della

Roy Thomson Hall quando i titoli di coda hanno

iniziato a scorrere per la proiezione al Toronto

International Film Festival di "Machine Gun

Preacher," il film interpretato da Gerard Butler su

Sam Childers, l’ex-detenuto diventato un giustiziere

in Africa. La prima mondiale del film, che è stato una

fatica dettata dalla passione per tutte le parti

coinvolte — compreso Butler, che dice di aver

realizzato una frazione del suo normale salario per

interpretare Childers — ha tenuto il pubblico

inchiodato alle poltroncine.

Si sono alzati solo una volta che i titoli finali sono

scorsi, e allora lo è stato per dare un’ovazione ai

scritto da Jason Keller. Anche avere Childers nel

pubblico è stata un grandiosa approvazione — il

49enne biker da Harley Davidson ha chiarito che non

sarebbe stato a Toronto se non gli fosse piaciuto ciò

You could feel the collective sigh of relief Sunday night coming

from the filmmaker section of Roy Thomson Hall when the credits

began to roll for the Toronto International Film Festival

screening of "Machine Gun Preacher," the Gerard Butler-starrer

about real life ex-con-turned-African-vigilante Sam Childers. The

world premiere of the film, which has been a labor of love for all

the parties involved — including Butler who says he made a

fraction of his regular salary to play Childers — kept audience

members rooted to their seats.

They only stood once the final credits rolled, and then it was to

give an ovation to the filmmakers. Both Butler and Childers, who

attended the festival with his wife, Lynn, stood and grabbed

hands for a final curtain call.

The movie centers on Childers, a violent gun-toting ex-con from

rural Pennsylvania, who turns his life around after finding Jesus

and becomes obsessed with the child massacres occurring half a

world away in the Sudan. He starts an orphanage that houses

more than 200 children and helps fight the men who have left

them orphans. His quest for vengeance and his drive to save the

young people comes at great sacrifice to his wife and daughter.

The audience seemed engrossed for the often violent and

disturbing film, directed by Marc Forster ("Monster's Ball,"

"Quantum of Solace") and written by Jason Keller. Having

Childers in the audience was a great endorsement too — the 49-

year-old Harley Davidson biker has made it clear he would not

have been in Toronto had he not liked what he saw on the screen.

Butler, particularly, seemed quite relieved by the response. Once

the lights came up, the Scottish actor, announced, "Let's go get a

drink."

Il film diretto da Marc Forster "calza alla

perfezione al genere di aggressività piena

d'animo - metà santo, metà sociopatico" di

Butler, scrive un recensore.

Gerard Butler ritorna sul grande schermo con

Machine Gun Preacher del regista Marc Foster, la

vera storia dell'ex-detenuto, biker e attaccabrighe

Sam Childers, che ha finito per costruire una chiesa

comunitaria in Pennsylvania e a predicare lì. Le

recensioni sono arrivate alla spicciolata dalla sua

proiezione al Toronto Film Festival e molti hanno

lodato l'interpretazione di Butler. Il film esce nelle

sale Venerdì, 23 Settembre.

Kirk Honeycutt di The Hollywood Reporter scrive che

"i critici saranno entusiasti della performance

energica nel ruolo di Sam Childers. Ma non si può

sfuggire alla fastidiosa sensazione che il film non

scavi abbastanza in profondità nella vita del proprio

eroe, realmente esistente. Il film non esplora tutti

quei perché' e 'cosa.'"

Catherine Shoard di The Guardian scrive che il film

"calza alla perfezione a quel genere tutto suo di

aggressività piena d'animo - mezzo santo, mezzo

sociopatico." Ma ha evidenziato alcune cose

mancanti, compreso il fatto che il film non spieghi

mai per cosa "combattano i nemici di Childers, o

molto del conflitto sullo sfondo." Persino così, ha

assegnato al film tre stelle su cinque, facendo notare

che Butler ha anche contribuito al progetto in qualità

di produttore esecutivo.

Nel contempo, Drew McWeeny a HitFix ha dato

Machine Gun Preacher una recensione relativamente

negativa, dicendo che il film azione trainato da Butler

era strano ed oltremodo sincero, ma a suo credito ha

osservato che Butler "offre una interpretazione

genuinamente appassionata " e che "fa del proprio

The Marc Forster-directed film is "a terrific fit" for

Butler's "brand of soulful aggression -- half saint, half

psychopath," writes one reviewer.

Gerard Butler returns to the big screen with director Marc

Foster's Machine Gun Preacher, a true story about the life of ex-

con, biker and hellraiser Sam Childers, who ended up building a

community church in Pennsylvania and preaching there. Reviews

have been trickling in ever since it screened at the Toronto Film

Festival and many have praised Butler's performance. The film is

out in theaters Friday, Sept. 23.

The Hollywood Reporter's Kirk Honeycutt writes that "critics will

rave about Gerard Butler's fast-and-furious performance as Sam

Childers. But one can't escape the nagging feeling that the film

doesn't dig deeply enough into its real-life hero. The film doesn't

explore all those 'whys' and whats.' "

The Guardian's Catherine Shoard writes that the film is "a terrific

fit for his own brand of soulful aggression -- half saint, half

psychopath." But she did bring up some things that lacked,

including the fact that the film never explains what "Childers'

enemies are fighting for, or much about the background of the

conflict." Even so, she gave the film three out of five stars, making

note that Butler also executive produced the project.

Meanwhile, Drew McWeeny at HitFix gave Machine Gun

Preacher a relatively negative review, saying that the Butler-

headlined action feature was strange and overly sincere, but to

his credit, noted that Butler "gives a genuinely impassioned

performance" and "dos his very best to give some sort of rough-

hewn life to the character."

Ultimately, he writes, "I think Machine Gun Preacher means well,

but even knowing that Sam is a real person, this film still

ultimately feels like yet another movie in which it takes a white

man from outside the culture to come save all the backwards

natives from themselves and and making it a movie that focuses

on kids feels like a cheap shortcut to sentiment."

Indiewire's Gabe Toro calls Machine Gun Preacher something of a

Rambo, the Sylvester Stallone film released a few years prior.

"Butler can’t really play nuance as much as he can scowl, brood

and posture. But he sure makes a hell of an entrance — after a

brief opening where we see the strife of the Sudanese people,

Butler struts out of prison with a glower and a mullet, cursing off

the guards," he recalls, declaring that the film doesn't showcase

Butler; instead, it's "Rambo done wrong."

Mi sono imbattuta in Gerard Butler per due sere a fila --

prima alla proiezione del suo nuovo film Machine Gun

Preacher presso la Producers Guild, e poi di nuovo alla

prima con raccolta fondi. Che film! Che attore! E'

affascinante e accattivante e all'apice della sua carriera,

per cui è un momento eccitante della sua vita - in

particolar modo con un film così avvincente che mette

in mostra il suo talento! Rappresenta la molta passione

che c'è voluta nel far diventare una storia e un libro

degni di Dateline della NBC in un film pieno di energia!

Andate a vederlo! Butler fa sembrare Stallone un

passerotto -- ma comunque, io ho un'idea alquanto

ferma di quello che serve per fare una star.

Mio padre godette della profonda e fedele amicizia di

Jimmy Stewart e ho imparato molto di cosa servisse

avere per essere una star del cinema. Lui deve essere

esagerato -- ed avere una certa energia -- ed è stato

facile trascurare la sua abilità perché tutto sembrava

così naturale. Penso che sia una maledizione per un

attore di bell'aspetto, e non fa eccezione per Gerard

Butler, che non solo è protagonista ma anche

produttore esecutivo di Machine Gun Preacher, la vera

storia di Sam Childers, un ex detenuto

tossicodipendente figlio di pu**ana che si converte alla

cristianità e va in Africa orientale (Uganda e Sudan) nel

mezzo della guerra civile per aiutare i bambini co-optati

come soldati ad uscire dai combattimenti e a tornare

alle loro vite da bambini.

E' un film fenomenale, sebbene abbia ricevuto

recensioni discordanti -- i critici possono avere così

torto. Uno ha detto che lui è in ogni scena e avendo

pianficato che fosse così. Oh per favore! La storia parla

di Sam Childers e questa è la sua sotria! Sono solo

gelosi di Butler, che può portare i film alla vita e ci fa

bella figura nel farlo! George Clooney ha il proprio

modo di fare con gli altri (vi rimando alla rubrica della

prossima settimana) e sospetto che il fascino di Gerard

Butler non lo terrà indietro ancora per molto. Spero che

il suo umorismo ed umiltà lo portino lontano ad

Hollywood. Quando disse di essere onorato per essere

stato coinvolto in questo progetto, era sincero e vero,

proprio come io sono stata onorata di parlare con lui a

tu per tu.

Quello che veramente controbilancia la sua fisicità, che

apre il film, è la sua sensibilità, qualcosa che nessuno

Scozzese ammetterebbe mai. Quella è qualità da star.

Lui diventa i suoi personaggi; lui sente i suoi

personaggi. Ne Il Fantasma dell'Opera, ad opera del

meravigliosamente dotato Joel Schumacher, fu un

Fantasma sublime. E so che Joel Schumacher amò

lavorare con questo attore che iniziò la propria carriera

sulla scena da bambino. Nella vita reale, la sua salvezza

potrebbe essere il calcio, ma qui lo è il fervore

[religioso] della moglie del suo personaggio, che ella

condivide con lui.

In Machine Gun Preacher vediamo follia borderline e

Butler rende completa l'illusione quando più avanti nel

film, nel ruolo di Childers, egli torna in Africa in una

frenesia assassina in nome dei bambini. Qui è dove

mettiamo in dubbio le sue motivazioni -- quanto egli

viene spinto dai propri demoni personali e quanto lo è

per i bambini? Da persona che è stata in trincea nel

Terzo Mondo combattendo per l'alfabetizzazione con la

mia organizzazione (www.powerforkids.com), il suo

comportamento violento è conflittuale e confonde.

Mi sarebbe molto piaciuto fornire a quei bambini dei

libri ed insegnare loro a leggere, ma il nostro

personaggio doveva uccidere il nemico che rapisce i

bambini e assassina i loro genitori, per cui questo forte

dilemma morale ha pervaso il film. "Tu non ucciderai"

(5° Comandamento - ndt) è stato gettato bellamente

fuori dalla finestra -- sebbene fosse per autodifesa.

Aveva ragione ad uccidere? Gli spettatori sembrano

pensarla così.

Butler sembra a proprio agio con le sue emozioni, le

quali - per un attore - sono un po' come il contenuto di

un frigorifero -- dovendo essere in grado di avere a

portata di mano e tirar fuori una birra e servirla. O una

rossa torta vellutata, un bicchiere di champagne, o un

cheeseburger. Qui, abbiamo un pranzo da gourmet,

dato che Butler trasforma il proprio aspetto e voce in

quelli di un "campagnolo della Pennsylvania"

irriconoscibile.

Non ha avuto timore di fare del proprio meglio per il

film e coinvolgere le migliori persone che potesse

trovare, compreso il trainer vocale Jerome Butler, che

lo ha aiutato ad avere il perfetto accento da

"campagnolo della Pennsylvania", e un regista dalla

mano ferma, Marc Forster, che ha perfettamente

funzionato per esprimere le dure realtà della storia. In

una toccante scena, vediamo le malvagità dello LRA,

mentre obbligano un bambino ad uccidere la propria

madre cosi andrà a combattere con l'infame Lord's

Resistance Army. E' una scena che non dimenticherete

mai.

L'intensità di Mr. Butler tiene in ostaggio il pubblico. Vi

sfida. Potrà non farvi desiderare di abbracciarlo, ma

certamente fa vivere la storia e si tratta di un racconto

che - anche provandoci - non si può inventare. E' così

avvincente e primitiva e vera che alla première con

raccolta fondi, gli spettatori erano come sotto un

incantesimo e alla proiezione per addetti ai lavori alla

quale ho presenziato il film ha ricevuto una standing

ovation! Ecco come il "fattore wow" va scritto: W-O-W!

Ho chiesto a Mr. Butler come mai ha ricevuto un

accredito come produttore esecutivo dato che sono

membro della Producers Guild - e spesso questo è un

problema - e, nel caso in cui se lo sia guadagnato,

volevo invitarlo a diventare membro della nostra

organizzazione. Era tranquillo e potrei dire che stava

facendo il modesto; a questo punto l'Amministratore

Delegato della Relativity Media, Ryan Kavanaugh, si è

intromesso e ha affermato, "Se non fosse stato per Mr.

Butler, il film non avrebbe mai potuto venire realizzato.

E' stato il suo impegno verso il progetto e verso la storia

che lui ci ha visto dentro che ha portato tutto alla vita."

Wow! Mica lodi leggere! Ho immediatamente pensato

al mio personale progetto scozzese e mi sono fatta un

appunto mentale di condividerlo con lui se dovessi

vedere vedere Mr. Butler per la terza serata di fila!

I bumped into Gerard Butler two nights in a row -- first at a

Producers Guild screening of his new movie, Machine Gun

Preacher, and then again at a charity fundraiser and the premiere

of it. What a film! What an actor! He is engaging and charming

and at the top of his career so it's an exciting time in his life --

especially with such a compelling movie to show off his talent! It

represents a lot of passion that went into bringing a Dateline NBC

story and book into its own powerhouse film! Do see it! Butler

makes Stallone look like a titmouse -- but then again, I have a very

staunch idea of what make a film star.

My dad enjoyed a deep and abiding friendship with Jimmy Stewart

and I learned a lot about what it was like to have to be a movie star.

He has to be larger than life -- and that certain energy -- it was

easy to overlook his skill because it all looked so natural. I think this

is a curse for the handsome actor and this no exception for actor

Gerard Butler who not only stars in Machine Gun Preacher, a true

story of Sam Childers, a bad-ass drug dealing ex-con who converts

to Christianity and goes to East Africa (Uganda and the Sudan) in

the midst of civil war to help coerced children get out of fighting

and return to their lives as children, but executive produces as well!

It's a phenomenal movie though it has received mixed reviews -- the

critics can be so wrong. One said that he is in every scene and

planned it that way. Oh please! The story is about Sam Childers

and this is his story! They are just jealous of Butler, who can bring

movies to life and look good doing it! George Clooney has a way

with others (see next week's column) and I suspect Gerard Butler's

charm won't keep him far behind. I hope his humor and humility

take him far in Hollywood. When he spoke of being honored to have

been involved with this project, he was honest and real, just as I

was honored to have spoken with him one on one.

What really counters his physicality, which opens the movie, is his

sensitivity, something no Scottish lad would ever admit to. That's

star quality. He becomes his characters; he feels the characters. In

wonderfully gifted Joel Schumacher's Phantom of the Opera, he

was a delicious Phantom. And I know Joel Schumacher loved

working with this actor who began his career as a child on the

stage. In real life, his salvation may have been soccer but here it is

his character's wife's fervor which she shares with him.

In Machine Gun Preacher, we see a borderline madness and Butler

makes the illusion complete when later in the film as Childers, he

goes back to Africa on a killing spree in the name of the children.

This is when we question his motives -- how much is driven by his

personal demons and how much is it for the children? As someone

who has been in the trenches in third world countries fighting for

literacy with my own organization (see www.powerforkids.com)

his kick-ass behavior is conflicting and confusing.

I would have loved to supply these children with books and teach

them to read but our character had to murder the enemy who is

stealing children and murdering their parents so that this strong

moral dilemma plagued the movie. "Thou shall not kill" went right

out the window -- even though it was in self-defense. Was he right

in killing? The audiences seem to think so.

Butler seems comfortable with his emotions, which are something

like an actor's refrigerator contents -- they have to be able to reach

in and pull out a beer and serve it up on tap. Or a red velvet cake, a

glass of champagne, or a cheeseburger. Here, we get a gourmet

meal as Butler transforms his looks and voice into those of a

"Pennsylvania hillbilly" who is unrecognizable.

He wasn't afraid to do his best for the film and involve the best

people he could find including voice coach Jerome Butler, who

helped him have a perfect "Pennsylvania hillbilly" accent and

heavy-handed director, Marc Forster, which worked perfectly to

deliver the harsh realities of the story. In one moving scene, we see

the evils of the LRA, as they force a child to kill his mother so he will

have to go fight with the evil Lord's Resistance Army. It's a scene

that you will never forget.

Mr. Butler's intensity holds the audience hostage. He challenges

you. He may not make you want to lean in and hug him but he sure

makes the story come alive and it's a story that you couldn't make

up if you tried. It is so compelling and raw and real that at the

charity-fundraising premiere, the audience was spellbound and at

the industry screening I also attended, the film received a standing

ovation! It's wow factor is spelled W-O-W!

I asked Mr. Butler why he received an executive producer credit

since I am a member of the Producers Guild and this is often an

issue and if he earned it, I wanted to invite him to become a

member of our organization. He was quiet and I could tell he was

being modest and it was at this point Relativity Media CEO Ryan

Kavanaugh stepped in and said, "Were it not for Mr. Butler, the

film could never have been made. It was his commitment to the

project and story that he saw through which brought it to life."

Wow! No faint praise here! I immediately thought of my own

Scottish project and made a mental note to share it with him if I

saw Mr. Butler a third night in a row!

Qualche mese fa, è stato riferito che il regista Phillip

Noyce (Salt) avrebbe diretto un adattamento del

romanzo "Firing Point" re-intitolato Hunter Killer,

prodotto dalla Original Film di Neal Moritz. Il

distributore Relativity Media ha persino fissato la data

di uscita per il 21 Dicembre 2012. Scritto da Don Keith

e George Wallace, il romanzo racconta di una squadra

di NAVY Seals in un sottomarino mandato in missione

in Russia per impedire ad un ammiraglio di iniziare

una guerra contro l’America.

ComingSoon.net ha sentito borbotti che Gerard Butler

potrebbe essere in trattative per interpretare uno dei

ruoli protagonisti nel film, quello di Joe Glass, il

Capitano del sottomarino Toledo. Butler appare in

Machine Gun Preacher di Marc Forster, distribuito

dalla Relativity il 23 Settembre, così ha senso che

vogliano che il rapporto vada avanti.

La scelta di Butler non è ancora stata confermata, ma

da quel che sappiamo del romanzo, ci sono molte parti

da riempire compresi altri tre ruoli chiave, per cui qui

speriamo che ci saranno altre notizie man mano che il

cast viene messo insieme.

A few months back, it was reported that director Phillip Noyce

(Salt) would be helming an adaptation of the novel "Firing Point"

retitled Hunter Killer, produced by Neal Moritz's Original FIlms.

Distributor Relativity Media even set the movie's release date for

December 21, 2012. Written by Don Keith and George Wallace, the

novel tells about a team of NAVY Seals in a submarine sent on a

mission to Russia to stop an admiral from starting war with

America.

ComingSoon.net has heard rumblings that Gerard Butler might

be in talks to play one of the leading roles in the movie, that of Joe

Glass, the Captain of the submarine Toledo. Butler appears in Marc

Forster's Machine Gun Preacher, being released by Relativity on

September 23, so it makes sense they'd want to keep that

relationship going.

Butler's casting isn't confirmed as of yet, but from what we know of

the novel, there are a lot more parts to be filled including three

other key roles, so here's hoping there will be more news as this cast

comes together.

Abbiamo recentemente riferito di voci che la star di

contemplando di interpretare il capitano di un team di

Navy SEAL nel thriller sottomarino Hunter Killer. Ma

se lui finirà per aggiudicarsi il ruolo, lavorerebbe per

un regista diverso rispetto a quanto inizialmente

programmato.

Phillip Noyce, regista di due adattamenti da Tom

Clancy (Patriot Games/Giochi di Potere tratto da

“Attentato alla Corte di Inghilterra” e Pericolo

Imminente/Clear and Present Danger dal romanzo

omonimo – ndt)- e del film della scorsa estate con

Angelina Jolie Salt, ha lasciato perdere Killer perché

troppo vicino per dimensioni e intendimento a film che

ha fatto in passato, come Moviehole riferisce. Noyce

invece sceglierà tra la storia d’amore Timeless o un

thriller Above Suspicion, il second dei quali è stato

firmato dal nominato al Golden Globe Chris Gerolmo

(Mississippi Burning).

Ora Relativity Media deve tornare al tavolo di

progettazione se vogliono mantenere Killer in pista per

la sua già annunciata data d’uscita del 21 Dicembre

2012. Il film è un adattamento del romanzo Firing

Point di Don Keith e George Wallace, che è stato

opzionato dalla Original Films di Neil Moritz. Avere

Butler a bordo per la storia – che vede i SEALs

dirigersi all’interno del territorio russo per impedire lo

scoppio della III Guerra mondiale – aiuterebbe un

regista a partire in quarta.

Ma l’esperienza di Noyce nel genere avrebbe aiutato ad

elevare Killer, per cui spero che lo studio possa trovare

un cineasta con un simile insieme di capacità che possa

trasformare questo da comune thriller militare in

qualcosa di speciale. Viene alla mente Tony Scott

(sebbene questo potrebbe essere troppo simile al suo

Crimson Tide/Allarme Rosso, sempre tratto da Tom

Clancy). Viene anche in mente Kathryn Bigelow,

specialmente se riesce a portare con sé Jeremy Renner

(sarebbe… wow! – ndt) – ma lei ha già in corso un

proprio progetto sui SEAL, Kill Bin Laden. A questo

We recently reported on rumors that 300 and Machine Gun

Preacher star Gerard Butler was contemplating playing the captain

of a Navy SEAL team in the submarine thriller Hunter Killer. But if

he ends up grabbing the role, he’ll be working for a different

director than initially planned.

Phillip Noyce, director of two Tom Clancy adaptations and last

summer’s Angelina Jolie vehicle Salt, has passed on Killer because

it’s too close in size and scope to films he has made in the past,

Moviehole reports. Noyce instead will choose between the love story

Timeless or a thriller Above Suspicion, the latter of which was

penned by Golden Globe nominee Chris Gerolmo (Mississippi

Burning).

Now Relativity Media has to head back to the drawing board if

they’d like to keep Killer on track for its previously announced Dec.

21, 2012 release date. The movie's an adaptation of Don Keith and

George Wallace’s novel Firing Point, which has been optioned by

producer Neil Moritz’s Original Films. Having Butler on board for

the story – which sees the SEALs heading into Russian territory to

prevent the launch of World War III – would help a director to hit

the ground running.

But Noyce’s experience in the genre would have helped elevate

Killer, so I hope the studio can find a filmmaker with a similar skill

set who could turn this from a run-of-the-mill soldier thriller into

something special. Tony Scott comes to mind (though this might be

too similar to his Crimson Tide). Kathryn Bigelow also comes to

mind, especially if she can bring Jeremy Renner with her-- but she's

already got her own SEAL project Kill Bin Laden going. At this

point it's all speculation. We’ll see if Noyce’s departure halts the

project’s forward progress, or if Relativity can plug in a

replacement and keep moving.

Fuqua Antoine Fuqua set to direct Hunter Killer

Filmmaker Antoine Fuqua is in final talks to direct Hunter Killer for

Relativity Media. We reported last month that Salt director Phillip

Noyce left the project, which allowed for Antoine Fuqua to take the

reins.

Hunter Killer centers on a new submarine captain who teams up

with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the Russian president. They must

also stop a Russian general that started a military coup before he

can start World War III.

Jamie Moss (Street Kings), Arne Schmidt (XXX: State of the Union),

and John Kolvenbach wrote the screenplay for Hunter Killer,

which is adapted from the Don Keith and George Wallace

novel, Firing Point.

Neal H. Moritz, Toby Jaffe, and Ryan Kavanaugh are producing,

with Tucker Tooley serving as executive producer. Production is

scheduled to start this winter.

Hunter Killer comes to theaters December 21st, 2012 and stars

Thomas Dekker, Josh Friedman, Steve Galich, Lena Headey, Jeffrey

LONDRA – La brutale biografia di uno dei più

famigerati pugili a mani nude d'Inghilterra si farà largo

verso il grande schermo.

La britannica casa di distribuzione, finanziamento e

produzione indipendente Revolver Entertainment sta

sviluppando una sceneggiatura basata sulla vita ed

epoca di Lenny McLean, noto anche come “the

Guv’nor.”

Il copione del film, il cui titolo di lavorazione è "The

Guv'nor", è basato sul libro “The Guv’nor Tapes,”

redatto da Peter Gerrard da estese interviste con

McLean e con coloro che lo circondavano.

Paul Van Carter sta scrivendo la sceneggiatura al

fianco di Martin Askew, il nipote di Lenny, per il

progetto.

I finanziatori dicono che la sceneggiatura mira ad

offrire un resconto senza compromessi della sua vita

Secondo i produttori, la storia di Mclean “esemplifica

Fassbender all high on producer wish list to play

notorious character.

LONDON – The brutal life story of one of Britain’s most notorious

bare-knuckle fighters is set to punch its way onto the big screen.

U.K. independent distribution, finance and production house

Revolver Entertainment is developing a script based on the life and

times of Lenny McLean, a man also known as “the Guv’nor.”

The film script, working title The Guv'nor, is based on the book “The

Guv’nor Tapes,” compiled by Peter Gerrard from extensive

interviews with McLean and those around him.

Paul Van Carter is writing the screenplay alongside Martin Askew,

Lenny’s nephew, for the project.

Backers said the script aims to offer “an uncompromising account

of his violent and notorious life from his humble beginnings in

Hoxton, East London to boxer, bouncer, bare-knuckle fighter, actor,

accused murderer and family man.”

Revolver’s Justin Marciano and Nick Taussig will produce the film

with Lenny McLean’s son Jamie McLean.

The budget is set to be around $5 million subject to casting.

Several names are on the producers’ wish list to play the East End

hard man with Jason Statham, Gerard Butler and Michael

Fassbender leading the field of established talent.

Upcomers Lucas Pittaway and Daniel Hensall's performances in

crime drama Snowtown have also captured the eye of the

producers.

Revolver snapped up U.K. distribution rights to Snowtown during

Cannes earlier this year.

“McLean’s story typifies the sheer brutality of growing up in the

East End of London through the post-War years, but it is also the

journey of a man who finds redemption through the hellish world of

bare-knuckle fighting,” said Marciano.

Gerrard compiled “The Guv’nor Tapes” from extensive recorded

interviews with McLean to create a no-holds-barred account of

McLean’s life.

Revolver snapped up the rights to the book and, with the support of

the McLean family aims to turn McLean’s story into a film.

The 41-year-old Scottish actor is facing competition from action

dell'FBI, che lavora come muratore a Chicago,

e al quale l'agenzia si rivolge per avere aiuto

Gerard Butler to Star in FBI Thriller

'The Bricklayer,' Based on the Novel by

Project is the first to be assembled by Mark Gill, since becoming

president of Millennium Films.

Millenium Films has acquired the rights to The Bricklayer, the

best-selling novel by former FBI agent Noah Boyd, and attached

Gerard Butler to star as a rogue former agent who’s called in to

help battle a criminal group that is demanding an escalating series

of multi-million dollar ransom payments.

It’s the first project to be assembled by Mark Gill since he stepped

into the role of Millenium president in June, and he’ll oversee it

along with Boaz Davidson, head of development and creative

affairs, and head of production John Thompson.

Hanna Weg (Enigma) is adapting the novel for the screen. Butler,

Alan Siegel and Danielle Robinson are producing, with Erik

Lindsay and Weg serving as executive producers.

The Bricklayer was published by William Morrow in January,

2010. Boyd is actually a pseudonym used by former FBI agent Paul

Lindsay. In the book, his main character, Steve Vail, is a former

FBI agent, working as a Chicago bricklayer, whom the

agency reaches out to help track down and combat the

criminal gang.

The plot also involves a female deputy director at the FBI who is

assigned to work with Vail – a part that that has not yet been cast.

Butler, repped by CAA and Alan Siegel Entertainment, will next be

seen in Coriolanus and Machine Gun Preacher, both of which are

playing the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

Boyd is repped by ICM, while Weg is repped by UTA.

e The Jackal hanno unito le forze per varare

“Attila the Hun” mini-serie televisiva di 4 ore

che riporta in vita uno tra i personaggi della

storia più interessanti.

Il film è stato girato totalmente in Lituania.

Gli attori e la troupe hanno dovuto superare

molte difficoltà durante il loro avventuroso

lavoro in Europa con più di 4.000 cavalli,

pericolose coreografie per coordinare scene

di battaglia, quasi 10.000 comparse, l'uso di

effetti speciali per muovere 500 persone

come se fossero 3000 ricreare una Roma

autentica e disegnare costumi per più di

mille attori (Jane Robinson costumista più

volte premiata e nominata per due Accademy Award per “A Handful of Dust”

e “Separate Table”).

Il pezzo forte naturalmente è Attila interpretato da Gerard Butler, sangue

scozzese, attore con esperienze teatrali interessanti, come un “Coriolano”,

“Improvvisamente l'Estate Scorsa” e “Trainspotting”.

Un film nominato all'Oscar, “Mrs. Brown”, altri come "Fast Food", "One

More Kiss", “Dracula 2000” “Shooters".

Giovane, bello forte, passionale che altro ci si può aspettare da un Attila, se

non vederlo tra breve tra le top star? Tuttavia la competizione in America è

tremenda già dietro di lui un più giovane intenso e promettente Rollo Weeks,

Attila ragazzo. Non dimenticatevi questo nome perché è già nella lista dei Top

10.

La storia è semplice: l'Impero Romano al massimo del suo splendore vede

insediarsi tra i suoi confini un popolo inaspettato, gli Unni, nomadi guerrieri,

che combattono con arco e frecce, abili a cavallo e specialmente senza paura

in battaglia. Roma si sente minacciata quando tra gli Unni emerge il nuovo

leader che, passato alla storia con il nome di Attila, unisce il suo popolo con

altre nazioni in un solo impero.

Trovandosi improvvisamente orfano, il giovane Attila (Rollo Weeks) deve

imparare a sopravvivere.

Adottato dallo zio, Re Rua (Steven Berkoff),

Attila (Gerard Butler) diventa presto un war-

leader; suo rivale è il fratellastro Bleda

(Tommy Flanagan). Alla rivalità' politica tra i

due si insinua anche quella per la stessa

donna, la schiava Nakara (Simmone Jade

MacKinnon).

Galena (Pauline Lynch), mezza maga e

veggente avrà molta influenza nella presa di

potere di Attila, lo spronerà a seguire il

destino che lo aspetta prendendo coscienza

delle opportunità al momento giusto.

Attila trova nell'amicizia con il generale

romano Flavio Aetius (Powers Boothe) una

porta aperta verso Roma, il potere e i piaceri

che gli vengono offerti dalla principessa

Honoria (Kirsty Mitchell).

forces to launch “Attila the Hun” a TV

mini-series running 4 hours which

brings to life one of the most interesting

historical characters again.

The movie was entirely shot on location

in Lithuania. The actors and the crew

had to get over many difficulties during

their adventurous job in Europe with

more than 4,000 horses, dangerous

choreographies to coordinate battle

scenes, almost 10,000 extras, the use of

special effects to move 500 people like

they were 3,000 and re-create Rome,

designing costumes for more than one

thousand actors (by costume designer

Jane Robinson, award nominated and

winning for “A Handful of Dust” and

“Separate Table” respectively).

The main character is Attila, of course.

Gerard Butler portrays Attila, a Scottish-

born actor with interesting stage

experience in “Coriolanus”, “Suddenly

Last Summer” and “Trainspotting”.

Furthermore an Oscar nominated movie,

“Mrs. Brown”, and others like "Fast

Food", "One More Kiss", “Dracula 2000”

“Shooters".

Young, handsome and strong,

passionate: what else should we expect

from such Attila, if not seeing him among

the top stars shortly? Still, competition in

America is terrible; the younger, intense

and well-promising Rollo Weeks, who

plays Attila as a boy, comes close behind

him. Don’t forget this name because he’s

already in the Top 10 list.

The story is simple: The Roman Empire

is at its top and sees the settling of an

unexpected new people close to its

boundaries: the Huns, warrior nomads,

who fight with bow and arrows, very

skilled in horseback riding and fearless

amidst the battle.

Rome feels threatened when among the

Huns a new leader rises; historically

known as Attila, he unites his people with

other nations, establishing an empire.

Finding himself suddenly orphaned,

young Attila (Rollo Weeks) must learn to

survive.

Adopted by his uncle, King Rua (Steven

Berkoff), Attila (Gerard Butler) quickly

becomes a war-leader; his rival is Bleda ,

his stepbrother (Tommy Flanagan).

Besides political rivalry, the one for the

same woman, the slave Nakara

(Simmone Jade MacKinnon), creeps

between the two men.

Galena (Pauline Lynch), half sorceress

and clairvoyant, will have a great

influence in Attila’s rise to power; she

will spur him to follow his fate and

become aware of the opportunities at the

most convenient time.

Presto, con l'intensificarsi delle conquiste da parte degli Unni, al comando di

Attila, la solidarietà e stima del generale romano, non può che diventare

l'opposto e la rivalità porterà ad entrambi rovina.

Attila troverà presto spazio nei nostri schermi, nel frattempo noi ve lo

anticipiamo, visto che le immagini possono correre veloci, perché aspettare

che tutti ne parlino…

power and the pleasure which are

offered to him by princess Honoria

As the Huns conquests increase under

Attila’s lead, the General’s respect and

solidarity soon switch to the opposite

side and this rivalry will bring the two of

them to their undoing.

Questo film per la TV del 2001 a volte si fa proprio

sciocco, ma costituisce un colpo sorprendentemente

buono alla storia del famigerato Re Unno

Grado di Intrattenimento: C–

Voto in Storia: C (nella scala dei voti anglosassone

la C vale – credo – Sufficiente – ndt)

Attila fu un re Unno del 5° Secolo che depredò gran

parte dell’Europa.

Cultura: Si sa poco degli Unni. Alcuni storici pensano

che fossero originari dei confini della Cina prima di

farsi strada verso l’Europa. E’ una piacevole sorpresa

scoprire che i produttori abbiano posato i loro sguardi

sulle informazioni esistenti. In una scena iniziale, il

giovane Attila correttamente identifica gli animali sacri

agli Unni come il ghiottone, l’orsa e il cavallo. Più

avanti, la sua corte viene raffigurata in linea con la

descrizione dello storico Prisco, che la vide con i propri

occhi. Garantito, né Gerard Butler nel ruolo di Attila,

né Steven Berkoff nel ruolo del suo predecessore, Re

Rua, sembra potessero essere originari dei confine

della Cina; tuttavia, nessuno sa davvero che aspetto

avvero gli Unni, né è mai stato dimostrato in modo

conclusivo da dove venissero.

Tecnologia: Attila si innamora di una graziosa

schiava dai capelli rossi, e lei di lui. Ma il suo [di Attila]

contraccezione semplice e sicura fosse esistita negli

ultimi 1600 anni, l’intera storia del mondo avrebbe

potuto essere diversa.

Storie d’amore: Attila se ne va a Roma, che è piena

di ragazze sexy che si spogliano in orge rappresentate

in modo immaginativo. Ecco Onoria, sorella del terzo

Imperatore Valentiniano, abbigliata in un improbabile

corsetto turchese iridescente ed abbinata veste con

spacco dalla caviglia alla zona bikini. Mostra ad Attila il

proprio bagno. Lui è totalmente fuori di testa. Più

tardi, si lamenta con un suo aiutante: "Conquistiamo

città, governiamo il mondo, e tuttavia non riusciamo

nemmeno a costruire un bagno." Onoria è troppo

cortese per rimarcare che questo era senza dubbio

ovvio nel momento in cui lui è entrato dalla porta e –

dopo una rapida abluzione – lo seduce. Nella realtà

Attila non ha mai visito Roma, né incontrato Onoria.

Ed aveva un bagno. (Ed anche nel film, alla fine, riesce

ad averne uno.)

Guerra: Onoria viene scoperta a letto con il suo

ciambellano, Eugenio, col quale sta complottando di

uccidere il fratello (certe cose non cambiano mai… -

ndt) . L’imperatore la esilia in un convento di

Costantinopoli. Per fuggire, Onoria invia segretamente

un anello ad Attila proponendogli il matrimonio. Lui

accetta e prontamente invade l’Impero Romano,

reclamandone la metà quale dote. Eccezionalmente,

questo è grosso modo quello che accadde veramente.

La cronologia era diversa nella realtà, ed il film manca

un paio di svolte, compreso il fidanzamento forzato di

Onoria ad un senatore. Tuttavia, la cosa è

fondamentalmente giustificata nel ritrarre la storia

dell’Europa del Quinto Secolo come una specie di

pastone ad alta velocità di Sunset Beach e Rambo. La

verità è roba di prima qualità.

Battaglia: Alla fine, arriviamo alla Battaglia dei

Campi Catalani – talvolta descritta come una delle più

significative della storia, malgrado il risultato incerto.

E’ ancor più un pasticcio nel film, a meno che non

riconosciate i Visigoti dagli Ostrogoti e gli Unni dagli

Alani. Fu notoriamente violenta. Edward Gibbon cita

un tributo di in vite umane tra i 162.000 e i 300.000.

Lo storico romano Giordano dice che un fiume fu

ingrossato dal sangue dei caduti e “quelli che furono

indotti dalle ferite ad estinguere la loro ardente sete

bevvero acqua mista a sangue". Il budget del film non

arriva a questo, quindi abbiamo delle più economiche

palle di fuoco e due dozzine di comparse che giacciono

sparsi sul fianco di una collina, vagamente fingendo di

essere morti.

Verdetto: Attila in alcuni punti si fa un po’ sciocco,

ma la ricerca dietro ad esso è in realtà abbastanza

credibile. Il che è molto più di quanto possa essere

detto della parrucca di Gerard Butler. (con tutto quel

ben di Dio una si ferma alla parrucca… Velo pietoso…

Attila: hot babes, baths and, erm, birth control

This 2001 made-for-TV movie does get very silly at times, but it does make a surprisingly good fist of the history of the infamous Hun king

Director: Dick Lowry - Entertainment grade: C– - History grade: C

Attila was a fifth-century Hun king who ravaged much of Europe.

Culture: Little is known of the Huns. Some historians think they originated on the borders of China before making their way to Europe. It's a

pleasant surprise to find that the film-makers have cast their eyes over what information exists. In an early scene, the young Attila correctly

identifies the Huns' sacred animals as the wolverine, the she-bear and the horse. Later, his court is depicted in line with the description by the

historian Priscus, who saw it with his own eyes. Granted, neither Gerard Butler as Attila, nor Steven Berkoff as his predecessor, King Rua,

looks like he might have originated on the borders of China; then again, no one really knows what the Huns looked like, nor has proven

conclusively where they came from.

Technology: Attila falls for a comely ginger slave-girl, and she for him. But his jealous elder brother, Bleda, takes her for his concubine. An

irritating witch covered in mud and sticks offers the slave-girl a solution: "These seeds. Swallow one every day. They will keep little Bledas out

of your womb." Now, just hold on a minute. The ginger slave-girl isn't real, but lots of historical films invent romances. The irritating witch

isn't real, but Huns did have prophetic priests. But you can't just go around inventing birth control pills in the fifth century to fill a hole in your

plot. Had easy, safe, reliable contraception existed for the last 1,600 years, the entire history of the world might have been different.

Romance: Attila strops off to Rome, which is full of hot babes stripping off at imaginatively depicted orgies. Enter Honoria, sister of the third

Emperor Valentinian, clad in an improbable iridescent turquoise corset and matching skirt split from ankle to bikini line. She shows Attila her

bath. He's totally freaked out. Later, he complains to an aide: "We conquer cities, we rule the world, and yet we can't even build a bath."

Honoria is too polite to point out that this was no doubt obvious the minute he walked in the door, and – after a quick wash – seduces him. In

real life, Attila never visited Rome, nor met Honoria. And he did have a bath. (He does eventually get one in the film, too.)

War: Honoria is discovered in bed with her chamberlain, Eugenius, with whom she is plotting to kill her brother. The emperor exiles her to a

convent in Constantinople. To escape, Honoria secretly sends a ring to Attila, proposing marriage. He accepts and promptly invades the

Roman Empire, half of which he claims as a dowry. Amazingly, this is pretty much what really happened. The chronology was different in

real life, and the film misses out a few twists, including Honoria's forced betrothal to a senator. Still, it is basically justified in portraying fifth-

century European history as a kind of high-velocity mash-up of Sunset Beach and Rambo. The truth is cracking stuff.

Battle: Finally, we get the Battle of the Catalaunian Fields – sometimes described as one of the most significant in history, despite its unclear

outcome. It's even more of a muddle in the film, unless you already know your Visigoths from your Ostrogoths, and your Huns from your

Alans. It was famously violent. Edward Gibbon quotes a death toll of between 162,000 and 300,000. The Roman historian Jordanes says a

stream was swollen with the blood of the fallen, and "those whose wounds drove them to slake their parching thirst drank water mixed with

gore". The film's budget isn't up to this, so we get some cheapo fireballs and two dozen extras lying around on a hillside, vaguely pretending to

be dead.

Verdict: Attila gets a bit silly in places, but the research behind it is actually quite credible. Which is more than can be said for Gerard

Butler's wig.

(2011), annovera tra i propri altri lavori il film Fish

Tank (2009); il 2011 lo vede grande protagonista con

ben tre film: un nuovo adattamento cinematografico del

romanzo-capolavoro di Charlotte Brontë Jane Eyre; la

pellicola di David Cronenberg, A Dangerous Method,

dove interpreta lo psicologo Carl Gustav Jung; ed infine

l'acclamato Shame, diretto da Steve McQueen, che lo

vede di nuovo al lavoro col regista che già lo aveva

diretto in Hunger (2008); presentato al Festival

Internazionale del Cinema di Venezia di quest'anno,

Shame ha fruttato all'attore la Coppa Volpi come

miglior attore. Il 2012 lo vedrà interprete per Ridley

Scott della pellicola Prometheus.

Formazione Fassbender è nato ad Heidelberg, in Germania (ex

Germania Ovest). Sua madre, Adele, è Nord Irlandese

originaria di Larne, Countea di Antrim, mentre suo

padre, Josef Fassbender, è Tedesco.[3][4] Secondo la

tradizione di famiglia, sua madre è la bisnipote di

Michael Collins, il leader irlandese durante la guerra di

indipendenza.[3][5] Quando aveva due anni, i genitori si

trasferirono a Killarney, nel Kerry, dove hanno avviato

un ristorante, il West End House, con il padre in qualità

di chef.[3][4] Fassbender ha ricevuto un'educazione

cattolica e ha servito come chierichetto.[6] Frequentò il

collegio St. Brendan's a Killarney, dove poi è tornato in

visita nel Marzo 2010 raccontando agli studenti i propri

ricordi di scuola ed esibendosi in alcuni brani alla

chitarra, e il Drama Centre nella zona nord di Londra,

che però abbandonò insoddisfatto dal concetto poco

lusinghiero che nell'istituto avevano del lavoro di attore

cinematografico.[7] In continuo spostamento tra film

britannici e americani, attualmente Fassbender risiede a

Londra, compiendo regolari viaggi di lavoro a Los

Angeles.

Carriera

Primi lavori Fassbender iniziò la propria attività d'attore con la parte

di Burton "Pat" Christenson in Band of Brothers, la

premiata serie prodotta da Tom Hanks e Steven

Spielberg. Interpretò poi il personaggio di Azazeal in

entrambe le serie di Hex (ovvero: maledizione) sulla

rete Sky One ed apparve anche quale personaggio

principale nel video musicale del brano "Blind Pilots"

della band britannica The Cooper Temple Clause.

Fassbender recitò la parte di Jonathan Harker in una

serie radiofonica in 10 puntate di Dracula prodotta

dalla BBC Northern Ireland e trasmessa all'interno della

serie Book at Bedtime (approssimativamente: Il Libro

della Buona Notte) tra il 24 Novembre e il 5 Dicembre

2003. Agli inizi del 2004 lo si è visto in un spot

pubblicitario per la birra Guinness intitolato The

Quarrel, nel quale un uomo attraversa a nuoto l'Oceano

dall'Irlanda a New York per scusarsi di persona col

fratello.

Nel 2006, durante il Fringe Festival di Edimburgo,

Fassbender interpretò Michael Collins in Allegiance, un

dramma ad opera di Mary Kenny basato sull'incontro

tra Winston Churchill e Collins; il ruolo risulta

particolarmente suggestivo in virtù del fatto che - come

detto più in alto - Adele, la madre di Fassbender, ne è la

bis-nipote.[8] Inoltre, tramite la propria società di

produzione (la Peanut Productions) ha prodotto, diretto

ed interpretato la versione teatrale di Reservoir Dogs

(titolo italiano Le Iene) di Quentin Tarantino. In

Angel, pellicola sull'ascesa ed eventuale caduta della

giovane e promettente scrittrice britannica di inizio XX

Secolo Angel Deverell (interpretata da Romola Garai),

egli interpreta l'oggetto dell'amore della protagonista, il

mediocre pittore Esmé. Il film drammatico – primo

lavoro in lingua inglese del regista francese François

Ozon, basato sul romanzo di Elizabeth Taylor – fu

presentato il 17 Febbraio 2007 al Festival

Internazionale del Cinema di Berlino e il 14 Marzo 2007

debuttò a Parigi. Ha poi effettuato una rapida

apparizione nel film per la TV Wedding Belles (che

annovera tra i propri autori il romanziere Irvine Welsh),

nel ruolo di Barney e recitando con accento scozzese.

Il successo col grande pubblico Fassbender balzò all'attenzione del grande pubblico

americano con il memorabile personaggio di Stelios nel

film girato nel 2006 300 diretto da Zack Snyder.

Nel 2008 Michael fu chiamato dal regista Steve

McQueen ad interpretare il ruolo di Bobby Sands nel

film Hunger. La trama rievoca lo sciopero della fame

sostenuto da alcuni prigionieri del carcere di Maze,

meglio noto come Long Kesh o H Blocks, per protestare

contro le disumane condizioni di detenzione e

rivendicare i diritti dei detenuti. Per calarsi nella parte

del personaggio, un membro del Provisional Irish

Republican Army (i cosiddetti Provos, movimento

militare di estrema sinistra distaccatosi dall'IRA)

incarcerato a Maze, Fassbender si sottopose ad una

drastica dieta da sole 600 calorie giornaliere, arrivando

così a pesare 59 chilogrammi, contro i 73 abituali,

distribuiti su una statura di 1 metro e 83 centimetri.

L'anno successivo alla propria affermazione al Festival

del Cinema di Cannes con Hunger, egli è apparso in

due film. Il primo fu Bastardi Senza Gloria di

Quentin Tarantino, nel quale

ricoprì il ruolo dell'ufficiale

britannico Tenente Archie

Hicox. L'altro film è stato

Fish Tank diretto da Andrea

Arnold (attualmente si parla

molto della sua riduzione

iper-realistica di Cime

Tempestose). Entrambi

furono acclamati dalla critica,

così come il lavoro di

Fassbender.

Dando il via ad un periodo nel

quale il suo "status di star è

salito in modo

esponenziale"[10], nel 2010 Fassbender ha preso parte a

Jonah Hex e ha girato Haywire, (precedentemente

intitolato Knockout.)[11]. Ha inoltre impersonato

Quintus Dias nel thriller bellico di Neil Marshall

Centurion,[12] ed è stato scelto per il ruolo di 'Richard

Wirth' nella pellicola di Joel Schumacher Blood Creek

(noto anche come Town Creek) al fianco del Dominic

Purcell di Prison Break e al giovane emergente Henry

Cavill. La storia parla di un uomo del West Virginia che,

sceso a patti con le proprie riserve morali, decide di

aiutare il proprio fratello a vendicarsi della famigla che

non solo dà ospitalità ad uno studioso dell'occulto

nazista, il Richard Wirth di Fassbender appunto, ma che

inoltre lo ha tenuto prigioniero per due anni affinché

Wirth lo utilizzasse come cavia per degli aberranti

esperimenti.

Fassbender ha poi interpretato Magneto in X-Men: Le

Origini, fondamentale prologo all'intera saga degli X-

Men. Ambientato nel 1962, esso è incentrato

sull'amicizia tra Charles Xavier (interpretato da James

McAvoy) e Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto e sull'origine dei

loro rispettivi gruppi, gli X-Men e la Fratellanza dei

Mutanti. Il film, distribuito il 3 Giugno 2011 con grande

successo finanziario e di pubblico, ha ulteriormente

contribuito a rendere Fassbender una star

cinematografica di ancor maggior successo.

Nel 2011, Fassbender è tra i protagonisti di A

Dangerous Method del regista canadese David

Cronenberg, nel quale porta sullo schermo lo psichiatra

e psicologo svizzero Carl Gustav Jung, contrapposto al

Sigmund Freud di Viggo Mortensen. Inoltre, è il

protagonista di Shame, pellicola nella quale ha il ruolo

di Brandon, un tormentato trentenne che combatte

contro la propria dipendenza dal sesso. Shame lo

riunisce al regista Steve McQueen ed è stato presentato

in prima assoluta al Festival Internazionale del Cinema

di Venezia, ove Fassbender ha conquistato la Coppa

Volpi come miglior attore.[14] A Venezia è stato inoltre

presentato anche A Dangerous Method.[10]

Ultimo, ma non meno importante, nel nuovo

adattamento ad opera di Cary Fukunaga di Jane Eyre;

Fassbender interpreta Edward Rochester, mentre la

giovane stella in ascesa Mia Wasikowska ha il ruolo

dell'eroina creata dalla penna di

Charlotte Brontë.[13]

Progetti futuri Nel 2012, Fassbender, nel ruolo di

un androide di nome David, sarà tra

i protagonisti di Prometheus,[15]

per la regia di Ridley Scott, e al

fianco di Noomi Rapace (la Lisbeth

Salander della Trilogia di Stieg

Larsson), Charlize Theron e altri

volti noti come Patrick Wilson, Idris

Elba e Guy Pearce. La pellicola parla

di un gruppo di scienziati alla

ricerca delle origini del genere

umano che si troverà a viaggiare negli angoli più oscuri

dell'universo, dove dovranno combattere per la

salvaguardia del futuro dell'umanità; attualmente il film

è in post-produzione e con uscita prevista per il mese di

Giugno del prossimo anno.

A causa di alcuni conflitti nella programmazione dei

propri molti impegni, Fassbender ha dovuto ritirarsi

dalle trattative per lavorare con il regista premio Oscar

Danny Boyle, nel suo nuovo film, Trance.[16]

All'inizio del 2012, inizierà le riprese di un film sui

vampiri ancora privo di titolo diretto da Jim Jarmusch;

al suo fianco nuovamente la sua co-protagonista in

Jane Eyre, Mia Wasikowska, oltre a Tilda Swinton e

John Hurt.[17]

In aggiunta a quello che appare come un 2012

veramente denso di lavoro, Michael è fresco di firma per

prendere parte al debutto registico dell'attore irlandese

Brendan Gleeson At Swim-Two-Birds,[18] adattamento

cinematografico del romanzo dell'autore irlandese Brian

O'Nolan che lo pubblicò sotto lo pseudonimo di Flann

O'Brien.

Speciale Moda Autunno Inverno / Fashion Special Autumn-Wintern

Ad ogni stagione arriva il momento in cui ci chiediamo: “Cosa indosseremo questa stagione?”, ed ogni volta, come un appuntamento fisso, troviamo una risposta negli spunti che gli stilisti ci danno ad ogni sfilata. Anche per questa stagione autunno/inverno 2011-2012 le idee non mancano e - mai come in questa stagione - le tendenze moda sono davvero interessanti da seguire e, soprattutto noi donne, potremo scegliere lo stile che più ci è congeniale. Sarà un inverno pieno di colore, con tante stampe d’ispirazione geometriche/etniche e floreali, tessuti leggeri e trasparenze. C’è un ritorno al passato con ispirazioni agli Anni ‘60 e ‘70, della vernice e del pitonato; l’ispirazione country-style con l’uso del tweed e dello scozzese. C’è tanta femminilità con abiti bon ton ed anche rigore con gli abiti dal taglio maschile ma di grande fascino. Ma ora analizziamo nel dettaglio i key pieces di questa stagione:

Hermès – Blugirl – Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti (Vogue.it) Ovvero come proteggersi dalle temperature fredde! Quindi parliamo dei capispalla, che mai come quest’anno sono tornati alla ribalta. Incominciamo con il cappotto corto al ginocchio, d’ispirazione bon ton; in versione maschile o di stile militare con bottoni grossi e spalle ben delineate; dalla linea scivolata, stile Anni ‘60 con colletto tondo; oppure linea robe manteau stretto in vita e svasato sui fianchi. I colori sono nelle nuances più soft come i colori pastello ed il beige, tocchi di nero e colori fluo come il blue elettrico ed il rosso. Oltre che nella versione corta il cappotto si presenta in passerella anche in versione lunga, quasi rasoterra con una allure da diva, che scivola fluida sul corpo. Dopo molti anni torna il doppio petto, presentato da quasi tutte

le griffe. Per chi non ama i cappotti la scelta su come sostituirlo nel proprio armadio è molto vasta! Si possono utilizzare le cappe, in tinta unita o versione tartan, con dettagli bon ton oppure profili di pelle o colli di pelliccia. Riappaiono, per soddisfare le nostre esigenze, anche i montoni, da indossare sia su abiti lunghi in fantasia sia su abiti da cocktail e quindi non solo di giorno ma anche la sera. Si continua con le pellicce, (naturalmente sono preferibili quelle ecologiche ;) ) coloratissime, dai colori forti e sgargianti dalle linee couture. Ed infine tra le varie proposte, c’è anche il montgomery , rivisto e corretto rispetto a quello classico, molto piiu’ grintoso, con linee avvitate od anche scivolate ma con dettagli deluxe.

Giacche + Gonne + Pantaloni Dior – Max Mara – YSL (Vogue.it)

Finalmente, dopo anni, ritorna la giacca, che si allunga notevolmente rispetto alle precedenti stagioni; monopetto o doppio petto, nei tessuti classici maschili o piu’ eccentrici come le fantasie e gli scozzesi, diventa un capo adatto 24 h su 24, da usare da giorno o di sera. Proprio il ritorno alla giacca, consacra anche il ritorno del tailleur. Giacche e gonne per tutti i gusti: dallo stile Chanel al genere minimal; gonne a tubo oppure svasate, rigorosamente al ginocchio, con giacche che - in questo caso – si fanno più corte per slanciare la figura.

Nella versione giacca/pantalone dà vita ad uno stile decisamente maschile, ma sempre super femminile grazie ai pantaloni dalla linea slim, da abbinare a giacche ben costruite, spesso a doppio petto, su camicie classiche o con fiocchi sul davanti. Chi non ama i pantaloni dalla linea “asciutta” può scegliere il pantalone a palazzo, very 70’s , dalla linea più alta per slanciare la figura, e creare un look molto femminile abbinandolo oltre che con delle giacchine corte, con delle camicie femminili.

Abiti

Da diverse stagioni ormai l’abito è diventato un elemento irrinunciabile, anche perché ormai lo sanno tutti: basta un semplice tubino nero e non si sbaglia mai! Quest’anno c’è una scelta molto vasta che accontenta tutte. Fa la sua apparizione il tubino, da giorno e da cocktail, dalle linee semplici, giocate con tagli che accompagnano il corpo e lo esaltano, in tinta unita, bicolori o con stampe arricchite da ricami, e sempre lungo al ginocchio. Ci sono poi gli abiti bon ton, dalle nuances delicate e linee piu’ scivolate, arricchite da dettagli come fiocchi o colletti, realizzati in tessuti come il pizzo, tessuti lucidi o ricamati, per un gusto retrò, Maniche corte o a tre quarti, ma spesso a giro manica. Per la sera invece abiti lunghissimi, con tessuti leggerissimi come pizzi, chiffon, satin. Linee svolazzanti e fluide per abiti di sicuro effetto. Di certo non passerete inosservate ;) . Stampe

Le stampe sono tantissime quest’anno, e dipende solo dal nostro gusto scegliere quelle che più ci piacciono e ci fanno sentire a nostro agio. Anche se personalmente non amo molto il pitonato, quest’anno è molto utilizzato in versione d’alta classe con abbinamenti inusuali; attenzione – però – è da evitare il total look, privilegiando un solo capo oppure un accessorio realizzato in questo materiale. Passiamo dunque alle stampe più facili da indossare come quelle floreali, che richiamano la primavera, oppure stampe dall’ispirazione geometrica ma di gusto etnico, o ancora stampe stellari e gusto pop art. Naturalmente il segreto sta nel mescolare le varie fantasie con accessori tinta unita ;)

Color Trends

Il colore per eccellenza quest’anno è il bianco totale; in alternativa: il nero per un look dark, oppure il cipria molto bon ton, per passare poi ai colori forti, dal rosso, all’ arancio, il blue elettrico, il giallo lime, verde smeraldo, fucsia e viola, da mescolare tra loro dando vita ad abbinamenti nuovi ed originali.
