Geometry Vocabulary with Quilt SquaresJayaker Kolli #6 Love

Readiness for 6th Grade Geometry

This is normal.

This is the quilt square in its original form.

This is the approaching vocabulary.

These are perpendicular lines which intersect at a right angle. These lines are types of intersecting lines. In this way all perpendicular lines

are intersecting but not all intersecting lines are perpendicular.

These are parallel lines which extend in either direction and also are an example of a line.

This is an right angle, the term for any angle that is exactly 90 degrees. The middle point where the two lines is called a point

but a point is any marked place on a line.

This is the proficient vocabulary.

This is a 2-D figure which means that it is basically on paper. It could be on another surface or material. But you can't pick the shape up unless it's printed on something. A 3-D shape is something that is physical that you can actually feel.

This green line is a line of symmetry.A symmetrical figure is a figure that can be split equally in half.A line of symmetry is stool

that proves the fact a shape is symmetrical.

These two rhombuses(diamonds) are congruent.Congruent means that the figures in question are the exact same size and shape as

the other shape(s).

This point where two lines or edges meet is called a vertex

the plural is vertices.

A polygon is a shape with no open areas or closed, that doesn't have rounded edges. This is why a circle or the rounded square-

like thing above cannot be called polygons.

This is a polygon.This is a polygon.

This is not a polygon. This is not a polygon.

This is the list of advanced vocabulary.

The green line above is known as a line of reflection. It symbolizes that the shape on the left side is congruent to the triangle on the right. This is a reflected image which

means that the shapes are congruent only facing different directions.

Line of Reflection

This image represents both a rotation and a translation. A rotation is when a shape rotates on a point 90 degrees or more. A translation is where

a shape moves one direction.

This image represents both a rotation and a translation. A rotation is when a shape rotates on a point 90 degrees or more. A translation is where

a shape moves one direction. All of the three topics

mentioned above are grouped together as transformations.

All of the three topics mentioned above are grouped together as transformations.

The pentagon above is similar but not congruent to the other pentagon beside it. So they are known as similar shapes. At the same time these shapes are another thing. The shape on the right is a smaller amount or proportion of the shape on the right.

Thank You for Watching my presentation to show I am ready for 6th Grade Geometry!
