Egavik Creek

Lat. 64° 02.43'N Lon. 160°55.49'W

Divert and Collect

Divert incoming oil to a shore-side collection area.

The mouth of the creek may change seasonally.

Deploy anchors and boom with skiffs (class 6).

Place protected-water boom at proper angle to divert incoming oil to the collection site.

Set-up collection site using shore-side collection units or if oil volume is minimal, use sorbent boom or snare line to provide collection of oil.

If sea state prevents deployment at the mouth, back the array back into the channel.

Tend throughout the tide.

Habitat: marsh, gravel, exposed rocky shores

Human Uses: commercial fishing, subsistence

Vessel master should have local knowledge.

A population of bears may be present in the area. A bear guard is required during shore operations.

Consult the Site Selection Matrix for the Cultural Resources Designation.

Consult with Incident Command to ensure ADFG-Title 16 and ADNR-Title 41 permits have been obtained.

Free-oil Recovery

Maximize free-oil recovery in the offshore & nearshore environment of Egavik Creek depending on spill location and trajectory.

Deploy free-oil recovery strike teams upwind and up current of Egavik Creek.

Use aerial surveillance to locate incoming slicks.

Deploy multiple free-oil recovery strike teams as required to maximize interception of oil before it impacts sensitive areas.
