General Information by security

• The couplings, flanges, valves and other componentsdescribed in this catalogue are intended exclusively forfluid applications. They cover the spectrum from normalto extreme operating conditions.

• A precondition for the highest possible performance andfunctional reliability with VOSS products is that the respective assembly instructions, operating conditionsand tube recommendations are observed. Failure tocomply with this information can impair the function andwill result in the voiding of our warranty.

• Coupling elements must not be retightened or loosenedwhile pressurised.Caution: Risk of serious injury or even death!

• Tubework must be laid in such a way that in unassembled state the tubes lie strain-free and all coupling elements can be easily installed.

• Please pay attention to cleanliness at all times when working with hydraulic components. Impurities or damage can impair the function of individual componentsor even the whole hydraulic system.

• Please observe the respective manufacturer’s instructionswhen working with lubricants.

• Please observe the respective operating instructions atall times when working with VOSS pre-assembly machi-nes/apparatus and tools. Failure to observe these canresult in dangers for human life and the environment.

Standardisation

The design and dimensions of VOSS cutting ring couplings,VOSSFormSQR tube couplings, flared couplings and flangescorrespond to the latest version of the standardDIN 2353/ISO 8434-1/DIN 3861/SAE J 518 C.

Permissible pressures

The pressures specified in this catalogue refer to

• Nominal pressure (PN) according to DIN 2401 T1The nominal pressures (PN) apply for static loads andtemperatures up to 120 °C as permissible operatingpressures with 4-fold safety margin.

• Permissible operating pressure (PP) according toDIN 2401 T1 The specifications “Operating pressure”(PP) are understood under normal operation conditions(up to 120 °C, static load) with a safety margin of 2.5.

For the tube-side cutting ring, VOSSFormSQR or flared coupling, the safety margin is always 4-fold. However, please always note the respective pressure specifications ofthe entire article. With increased loading of tube couplings(temperatures over 120 °C, major sudden pressure increa-ses etc.), the operating pressure must be reduced for anunchanging safety margin.

For the functional safety it is assumed that the tubingsystem is kept stable with tube brackets. The recommen-ded tightening torques must be used for articles with threaded studs. The specified pressures always refer to thecoupling. For the tube the pressure specifications of thecorresponding manufacture must be observed.

Permissible operating temperatures

Coupling and flange material

For all steel coupling and flange parts listed in this catalo-gue, the temperature range from -40 °C to +120 °C applies(also see the German standard DIN 3859 T 1). When the temperature limits are exceeded, correspondingsudden pressure increases must be taken into account.

Pressure stage increase

VOSS Fluid couplings can also be used at system pressu-res above the standard to date. This increase in performan-ce is achieved thanks to a changeover to higher-strengthmaterials.

Please refer to this catalogue for the respective pressuredata.

Important features of the pressure stage increase

• Heavy series (S) can be used at system pressures up to800 bar.

• Light series (L) can be used at system pressures up to500 bar.

• Demands of the DIN/ISO standards are far surpassed.

• Cost savings through the use of the light series insteadof the heavy series.

• Savings in space through the use of the light series instead of the heavy series.

• Reduction in assembly forces through the use of the lightseries instead of the heavy series.

• No change in the existing dimensions.

• No change in the existing assembly parameters.

Materials

In the standard version, VOSS cutting ring couplings,VOSSFormSQR, flared couplings, valves and flanges are offorged, drawn and in exceptional cases also cast steel inaccordance with DIN 3859-1.

Surface protection

VOSS Zink-Nickel is the new surface protection with whichall standard products from VOSS Fluid are provided.

A total of three layers consisting of a zinc-nickel basic layer,a passivation and a sealing coat provide optimum corrosionprotection for the whole component.

Important features are:

• Highest corrosion protection against red rust even afterhandling and assembly.

• The zinc-nickel basic layer has a several times highercorrosion resistance than zinc.

• White rust occurs only in the form of a slight grey coa-ting, no bulky white corrosion degradation product (zincoxide): “blooming”.

• Occurrence of red rust (in accordance with DIN EN ISO9227) > 720 h.

• The friction values remain unchanged compared withyellow chromating (A3C).

• The total coating thickness is 6-15 µm.• The zinc-nickel basic layer has a nickel content of 12-

Tightening torques for threadedboresThe tightening torques refer to steel couplings and a matingmaterial with a tensile strength ≥ 350 N/mm2. The threadedstuds must be oiled before screwing in.

Steel couplings with increased pressure stage require amating material with a tensile strength of ≥ 600 N/mm2.

The compliance with the recommended tightening torquesis a condition for the full utilisation of the pressure specifica-tions and the corresponding safety margins.

The tightening torques for the screw-in threads are listed asrecommendations in the tables of the corresponding cou-pling types.

Recommended steel tubes

The following table is a tube recommendation for the tubecouplings listed in the catalogue.

The table values refer to DIN 2413 class III dynamic loadsup to 120° C with the tube material 1.0255+N withoutcorrosion supplement.

There are different national and international standards forthe calculation of the tubes under inside pressure.

We refer to the standard DIN EN 13480-3, which coversthe various load cases in great detail.

The tube manufacturer's specifications must beobserved! For steel couplings we recommend the seamless precisionsteel tubes EN 10305-1 - 1.0255 + N or EN 10305-1-1.0580 + N (St 37.4 or St 52.4 according to DIN 1630,NBK in the delivered state, with a maximum hardness of75 HRB).

Note regarding stainless-steel tubes:When using stainless-steel tubes, please use only seamlesscold-drawn, bright annealed and heat-treated qualitiesaccording to EN 10305-1 and DIN EN 10216-5-CFD. Thin-walled steel tubes must be provided with reinforcingsleeves to stabilise the coupling.

Pipework assembly with reinforcement sleeves• Reinforcement sleeves requiredo Reinforcement sleeves recommended

Assembly of VOSS reinforcement sleeves1. Insert the sleeve up to the knurled neck into the pipe.

2. Drive in the sleeve completely using a hammer (plastic orhard rubber). The knurled neck is thereby pressed intothe inner wall of the pipe, securing the sleeve againstshifting or falling out.

3. Carry out cutting ring assembly.
