unable to maintain a 2m distance when treating a child
with COVID symptoms . This includes disposable gloves,
face mask and disposable apron.
Preserve Life : CPR
• Call 999 immediately – tell the call handler if the
patient has any COVID symptoms
• Ask for help. If a portable defibrillator is available ask
for it

'Critical workers are defined as parents whose work is critical
to the COVID-19 response, including those who work in
health and social care and in other critical sectors. However,
many parents working in these critical sectors will be able to
ensure their child is kept at home. Every child who can be
safely cared for at home should be, to limit the chance of the
virus spreading.’

To help ensure that the risk of virus spread for both colleagues and pupils is
as low as possible, we should:
• tell children, parents, carers or any visitors, such as suppliers, not to
enter the education or childcare setting if they are displaying any
symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19)
• consider how children arrive, and reduce any unnecessary travel on
coaches, buses or public transport
• ensure class sizes reflect the numbers of teaching staff available and
are kept as small as possible
• stagger lunch times, break times, and the movement of pupils around
the school, to reduce large groups of children gathering
• School to work with catering provider for separate serving outlets to
help with social spacing
• discourage parents from gathering at school gates
• Best attempts are to be made to follow the social distancing guidelines
• Keep pupils at their desks, away from each other, for as much of the
school day as you can, ideally 2 metres (3 steps) apart ( desks to be
organised in MFL and Main block to be socially distanced)
• One way system in place in Main block and MFL
• floor markers to be in place on the way to school and around main
building and MFL
• COVID guidance to be issued to colleagues as a reminder
We are asking:
• think about how measure can be implemented
• make sure anyone who is feeling ill stays at home
• ensure all colleagues and pupils:
o wash their hands with soap and water for 20
seconds frequently
o are encouraged not to touch their faces
o use a tissue or elbow to cough or sneeze and
use bins for tissue waste
• ensure help is available for children and young people
who have trouble washing their hands
• engage parents and children in education resources such
as e-bug and PHE schools resources
• Increase of cleaning of surfaces in classrooms, including
desks and handles, and within toilet blocks and changing
rooms,
• for children and young people with an EHCP plan, work
with the local authority as well as with parents to decide
how best to continue supporting these children and
young people to stay healthy
• The following should be used for further clarification:

• Posters in colleague areas to remind of social distancing and not
sharing resources
Guidance for employees in shared office areas can be found here:
gov.uk/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19
• A few general indicators will be relevant:
• make regular announcements to remind to follow social
distancing advice and wash their hands regularly
• encourage the use of digital and remote transfers of
material where possible rather than paper format, such
as using e-forms, emails and e-banking
• where it is possible to remain 2 metres apart, use floor
markings to mark the distance, particularly in the most
crowded areas (for example, where queues form) –
• where it is not possible to remain 2 metres apart,
colleagues should work side by side, or facing away from
each other, rather than face to face if possible
• where face-to-face contact is essential, this should be
kept to 15 minutes or less wherever possible
• as much as possible, keep teams of workers together,
and keep teams as small as possible
• Additionally, for customer-facing business:
• use signage to direct movement into lanes, if feasible,
while maintaining a 2 metre distance
• regulate entry so that the premises do not become
overcrowded
• use additional signage to ask visitors not to enter the
premises if they have symptoms

6. COVID-19 testing employees
All colleagues are keyworkers. All employees at Test Valley School are
classified as key/essential workers and therefore, qualify for COVID-19
testing if you display these symptoms. Testing key workers, and those in
their household, for the presence of COVID-19 is important in helping to
prevent unnecessary self-isolation, increasing the number of people who
can return to their role with the School, to manage risk and absence.

9. PPE. The current Government advice indicates that educational staff do not require PPE including face masks and face coverings
Central Government stipulates that wearing a face mask in schools or other educational setting is not recommended
PHE/ DFE guidance ( updated 16 June 20) stipulates :
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/safe-working-in-
education-childcare-and-childrens-social-care/safe-working-in-
education-childcare-and-childrens-social-care-settings-including-the-
use-of-personal-protective-equipment-ppe
The majority of staff in education, childcare and children’s social care settings will not require PPE beyond what they would normally need
If a child becomes unwell with symptoms of Coronavirus
whilst at school and needs direct personal care until they
return home – the following measures are to be in place:
• A fluid resistant surgical face mask should be
worn by the supervising adult if a distance of 2m
cannot be maintained
• If contact with the child is necessary then
disposable gloves and apron should be worn

for their work, even if they are not always able to maintain a distance of 2 metres from others. PPE is only needed in a very small number of cases: • where an individual child, young person or other learner becomes
ill with coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms and only then if a distance of 2 metres cannot be maintained
• where a child, young person or learner already has routine intimate care needs that involves the use of PPE, in which case the same PPE should continue to be used
Education, childcare and children’s social care settings and providers should use their local supply chains to obtain PPE. If a child comes to school and insists on wearing a mask we should allow them to do so in the following circumstances:
a) show them the statement from the DFE b) b) Discuss with them the concerns they have and see if it is a
matter of reassurance and understanding c) c) be mindful of any cases where a child may have asthma or
respiratory illness d) if they wish to continue to wear a mask they MUST do so all
day e) Masks cannot be disposed of on the school site f) The masks must bne washed or replaced daily
• If a risk assessment determines that there is a
risk of splashing to the eyes then eye protection
should be worn
• PPE kits are available at reception
• Cleaning team members are to wear the above
PPE whilst cleaning areas that have come into
contact with this situation.
Whilst we are following the DFE guidance and are not
recommending the use of masks ( unless the DFE
guidance changes) if pupils wear them we will allow
them to under the terms agreed
We will not be able to supply face masks if individuals
chose to wear them

addresses for pupils
2. Get in touch with your local authority (LA) social care
team to find out what its recommendations are for
different children, having worked with their parents
3. Flag any increased concerns about pupil safety
during closure or potential self-isolation with your LA
social care team
4. Double check staff know to follow your child
protection procedures as usual if they have any
concerns about a child, whether they're in school or
not
5. If staff are working remotely, make sure they have
contact details for your safeguarding team and LA
social care team, and can access your recording and
reporting systems
