GAUSSIAN LASER BEAMS WEEK 1 INTRO: MEASURING A GAUSSIAN BEAM; CALIBRATING YOUR PHOTODETECTOR GOALS In this lab, you learn about mounting optics and photodetectors and try out some techniques that are generally useful in optics labs and elsewhere. In particular, you will set up a simple optics system for measuring the width of your laser beam and in the process will have to mount and align the laser and optics. ThegoalofthispartofthelabistounderstandalotaboutthespecificationsgivenonthedatasheetfortheThorlabsPDA36ASwitchableGainAmplifiedPhotodetectors.Itisimportanttorealizethatdatasheets(alsocalledspecsheetsorspecificationsheets)provideamodelfortherealisticbehaviorofthedevice.Thismodelcanbetestedandimproved,aprocessmorecommonlycalled"calibration."
