Two main events that impacted his thinking and development:

His parents had fled from Nürnberg, Germany in 1938, with their three-year old son, Eric.

Just prior to Howard Gardner's birth Eric was killed in a sleighing accident.

Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1943

Attended Harvard University, graduated in 1965, and then again in 1971 with his Ph.D.History & LawEric Erikson as a tutor. In Howard Gardner's words Erikson

probably 'sealed' his ambition to be a scholar.

THE SHATTERED MIND – was his first book published in 197515 Books have followed

1972-2000 He was a Co-Director of Project Zero

IQ Tests do not capture the full potential of all human abilities. The paper and pencil method of testing limits humans intelligence.

CRITICS

Educators should Treat these Theories with caution! Teachers have often

varied the way they teach to what motivates students for centuries – WHY confine this notion within the “intelligences” framework.

“We must figure out how intelligence and morality can work together to create a world in

which a great variety of people will want to live”
