March 2011 Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to those of you who attended the consultation meeting concerning the redevelopment of the Early Years Foundation Stage garden. During the meeting I shared the staff vision, children’s ideas and some provisional   landscaping plans. This was then discussed giving parents and carers the opportunity to share their thoughts, make suggestions and raise any concerns and issues. One such suggestion was that I send home the provisional plans in order to obtain feedback from all those who were unable to make it to the meeting on Monday morning. Therefore, attached to 

this letter are two provisional plans for the outdoor space from two different companies. The plans show an extended   EYFS garden incorporating the pond with the boundary moving to the edge of the path into the KS2 playground.At this stage, neither company has been appointed, nor are the plans finalised. This is simply an illustration of the  potential of the space.

We have been advised throughout the process by Jo Gordon, an Early Years Consultant for Lambeth, who has specialist knowledge of creating motivational outdoor spaces. This advice, as well as training and research directs us towards a very natural space which embeds the ethos of Forest Schools and encourages challenge, discovery and higher 

order thinking skills. This is reflected in the attached plans.

Please take a moment to look at the plans and write down any ideas, feedback or concerns that you and your child would  like to share on the back of this letter and return to the school office by F r i d a y 1 s t A p r i l . Our hope it to create an inspiring space that incorporates the ideas of all interested parties and which everyone has ownership of.
