WELCOME MESSAGE FROM BRIAN A. GALLAGHER WELCOME MESSAGE FROM DR. JONGSUK YE

Dear Guest,

On behalf of United Way Worldwide, I am delighted to welcome you to the inaugural 2018 Asia-Pacific Philanthropy Summit: Future of Philanthropy – Role of Technology and Social Innovation. It is fitting for us to host this important and future-focused gathering here in Seoul, a city known for its innovations, particularly as the Community Chest of Korea marks its 20th anniversary.

On September 25, 2015, the world’s governments adopted a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the United Nations to end extreme poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity and opportunity for all. For these goals to be reached, all of society’s sectors must be recognized as essential partners in achieving these targets.

This conference is a critical step towards the cross-sector alignment needed to achieve the SDGs. It will offer an opportunity for sectors to have strategic discussions on how to collectively address society’s most pressing issues and engage with new donors and stakeholders by leveraging technology and social innovation.

In line with the conference theme, Dr. Ban Ki-moon, the 8th Secretary General of the United Nations, will be our keynote speaker. He will address how various society leaders and innovators can collectively contribute to the SDGs. During the conference, we will have panel discussions with exceptional speakers to discuss how technology and innovative collaboration models have transformed the landscape of philanthropy. Speakers will share emerging impact models and successful examples of cross-sector and cross-border collaborations in addressing social problems.

You are among an invitation-only audience of government, business, and civil society leaders. Please make the most of your time at the conference by networking with your peers and engaging in the discussions.

I am delighted that you are able to join us and hope you find this event enriching. Best,

Brian A. Gallagher President and CEOUnited Way Worldwide

On behalf of Community Chest of Korea, I welcome all of you in joining me at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Philanthropy Summit. We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Community Chest of Korea, and we are honored to have international guests who have travelled from abroad to join us on this meaningful occasion. I appreciate Brian Gallagher and the United Way Worldwide leaders who have invested considerable time assisting us with the program’s curation and design. And, finally I would like to say a big thank you to all invited speakers. Moreover, I appreciate the presence of special guests to celebrate this occasion, especially Dr. Ki Moon Ban, the 8th Secretary General of the United Nation; Mr. Neunghoo Park, Minister of Health and Welfare; Mr. Myung Su Lee, Chairman of Health and Welfare Committee of the National Assembly; and Mr. Shin Won Choi, Chairman of SK Networks.

As a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of Community Chest of Korea, CCK and its global partner United Way Worldwide are hosting this 2018 Asia-Pacific Philanthropy Summit together, to discuss the future of philanthropy among rapid changes induced by newly developing technologies and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Thus the theme of this year’s summit is 'Future of Philanthropy: Role of Technology and Social Innovation' .

We will share innovative examples of how state-of-the-art technology could be used for promoting philanthropy. We will also talk about how we can adopt the technologies for social welfare services during the Summit.

Community Chest of Korea is dedicated to promoting philanthropy in the world, building upon its 20 years of experience of adapting to social change and improving its effort to acclimatize to our changing world.

My colleagues of Community Chest of Korea are here to help you make the most of your time at this conference, so feel free to ask them if you need anything.

Once again welcome to the 2018 Asia-Pacific Philanthropy Summit.

Thank you.

Jongsuk Ye Board ChairmanCommunity Chest of Korea

WELCOME MESSAGE FROM HOSTING CITY

I'm very pleased to deliver a welcoming remark at the 2018 Asia-Pacific Philanthropy Summit. I would like to welcome all of you to Seoul, a city that stands with the people and the world. First of all, I extend my deepest respects to Board Chairman Ye Jong-suk of the Community Chest of Korea, President and the CEO of United Way Worldwide, Brian Gallagher for organizing such a valuable event. My respect and thanks also go to the distinguished guests and speakers who have prepared meaningful talks.

While our society is witnessing rapid changes in new technology and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we are still faced with various social issues including inequality, the gap between the rich and the poor, environmental damage, unemployment and poverty. The theme of this year's Summit is "Role of Technology and Social Innovation". I believe that this reflects the need for a collective impact through innovation and cooperation especially in philanthropy.

The city of Seoul is also exerting efforts to introduce innovation in its political affairs by cooperating with various parties in order to tackle various social issues that we've been facing for a long time. Above all, these efforts aim to foster a friendly social environment that is based on a sense of community, moving beyond a world where individuals live on their own. I believe that sharing the burden of life would make it easier for us to move forward in a positive direction.

I am certain that the valuable experience and detailed discussions that we will be sharing today will provide the foundation of a better future. Thank you very much.

CO-HOSTS

Brian A. GALLAGHER

President & CEO

United Way Worldwide

Brian A. Gallagher is President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest privately-funded nonprofit. Gallagher is a regular contributor to a number of high-profile global discussions, including the World Economic Forum (WEF). He frequently speaks about critical issues ranging from sustainable growth in emerging

economies to the ability of public/private partnerships to drive innovation and create long-term human success.

Under Gallagher’s leadership, United Way has shifted the focus of its mission to driving community change. This approach, which brings people together to create more opportunities for all, has been adopted in more than 40 countries and territories worldwide. He has also elevated brand stewardship to the highest priority. In 2008, United Way launched the LIVE UNITED campaign to engage communities in a more inclusive strategic effort. LIVE UNITED is an invitation to give, to advocate, to volunteer – an opportunity for all people to think of themselves as part of the solution.

Gallagher came to United Way in 1981 as a management trainee and has held positions in several communities throughout the U.S., including president of United Way of Central Ohio in Columbus. In 2002, he took on the role of president and CEO of United Way of America, quickly establishing new membership standards that required internal consistency and public transparency in financial reporting. His next priority was to take United Way beyond fundraising and transform the organization into a driver of long-term community impact.

United Way has become a leader in improving lives and communities around the world. In 2009, under Gallagher’s leadership, United Way of America and United Way International merged to create United Way Worldwide. Today, United Way is engaged in nearly 1,800 communities around the world to create sustainable solutions to the challenges facing our communities, focusing on education, financial stability, and health. Supported by nearly 3 million volunteers, 9 million donors worldwide, and $4.7 billion raised every year, United Way is engaging millions of people to change their communities, whether it’s through donating, volunteering or speaking out.

Gallagher leads WEF’s Global Civil Society Advisory Board, is a steering committee member of the WEF’s “Promoting Global Financial Inclusion” initiative, and is also a founding member of WEF’s NGO Advisory Committee and the Global Gender Parity Group. He served as a member of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, is former Chair of the Independent Sector, and currently serves on the Board of America’s Promise Alliance, Ball State University Foundation, and Leadership 18. He also serves on Ball State’s Board of Trustees. He is the father of two daughters, Katie and Maggie, and lives with his wife, Ramona, in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Jongsuk YE

Board Chairman

Community Chest of Korea

Prior to being appointed as Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea in June 2018, Dr. Jongsuk Ye served in various roles within the civil sector, including the Chairman of Beautiful Foundation, Co-president of Sharing Korea, President of Youngdo Youth Association, Chairman of Root Impact, Chairman of TenSpoon. He has worked

tirelessly to promote philanthropy in Korea. During his term at Beautiful Foundation, he developed a 1% giving campaign which resulted in massive citizen engagements and expansion of philanthropy in Korea. Dr. Ye plans to continue his crusade in building a nationwide philanthropic culture. Dr. Ye believes that nonprofits should act with operational excellence and transparency. If nonprofits are inefficient in managing gifts of donors, this could lead to the loss of trust of donors and to the culture of giving. It is critical that operational efficiency is secured to ensure a wide range of citizens benefit from community funds.

Dr. Ye's primary interest is to develop a new method of fundraising that is comparable to the IT powerhouse. He is leading the effort to transform the organization and develop innovative products to compete with the ever-rising fundraising competition. He is also leading discussion on strong brand positioning in the market that will drive organizational success. Dr. Ye graduated from University of California at Fullerton with an Economics major and earned his Ph.D. degree at Indiana University. He has served Hanyang University since 1986, where he held titles as the Dean of School of Business, the President of Graduate School of Business, and the President of the Korea Consumer Association.
