WHAT DO WE DO? Kookaburra Kids delivers services to young

people, aged 8-18 years, experiencing familial

mental illness, with the aim of empowering

them to build resilience, lifelong knowledge,

skills and abilities, in order for them to reach

their potential.

The program provides evidence-based, age

appropriate prevention and early intervention

mental health services embedded within a peer-

based social and activity-based format.

Children registered to the program attend age

appropriate camps and activity days where

they participate in important mental health

education programs as well as unforgettable fun

recreational and creative activities, at no cost to

their families.

With your help, we can reach more children to

grow beyond the impacts of familial mental illness.

By fundraising for Kookaburra Kids you will not only be supporting vulnerable young people to grow beyond the impacts of familial mental illness, but will join in advocating

for greater awareness of mental health among

all Australians.

Your generous fundraising efforts help us to provide a unique annual program of camps and activity days to young people impacted by familial mental illness.

The weekend camps feature a range of recreational and creative activities, where children meet peers who share similar experiences. Young people participating in the program also participate in Chat Group, the psycho-education component where Kookaburra Kids then come together with their leaders in a small group to have age-appropriate discussions surrounding a) mental health literacy; b) appropriate help-seeking for emotional and personal problems; and c) effective coping skills that facilitate social participation around the theme of mental health and wellbeing.

Activity days are another opportunity where children can catch up, participate in fun, leisure activities and mental health education on a smaller scale. Activities are held during the school holidays as well as monthly in different locations and all age groups are accommodated.

Kookaburra Kids relies heavily on volunteers to assist with delivering the physical side of the program. We have an amazing group of passionate volunteers who all undergo relevant training and, appropriate working with children checks and police checks. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing genuine enthusiasm and support to the children in the program.

Your funds ensure that these programs are delivered to children registered in the program, and empower them to build resilience and life-long knowledge, skills and abilities to reach their potential.

WHEREDOES IT GO?

On behalf of Ella* and myself we would like to thank you and all the

Kookaburra Kids staff for the camp over the weekend. Ella is still talking

about it so fondly. Ella really enjoyed the ‘talks’ and education about mental

health. She has also changed her approach when she recognises that daddy

might be a little stressed. Thank you.

Australian Kookaburra Kids Fundraising GuidelinesThank you for your interest in choosing Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation as a charity beneficiary for your upcoming fundraising event.

These guidelines have been developed to assist individuals, schools, workplaces, clubs, community groups, businesses and companies developing fundraising projects & events to benefit Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation.

1. Fundraising for Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation

1.1. These Fundraising Guidelines have been developed to assist individuals, groups and organisations “Fundraiser/s” who are planning to organise a project/event on behalf of Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation. A Fundraiser must agree to these terms and conditions by signing and returning the Fundraising Application. If the application to fundraise is approved by Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation these terms and conditions will form the basis of any dealings between Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation and the Fundraiser in relation to the fundraising event.

2. Authorisation

2.1. Fundraisers must provide Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation with:

- a clear written description of the nature, extent and duration of the fundraising event; and

- provide information about the group or individuals organising the activity, when completing the Fundraising Application.

2.2. Any individual or organisation organising a fundraising event on behalf of Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation must, by law, have a Letter of Authority to Fundraise. Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation will issue the Fundraiser this letter if their Application is accepted and Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation is satisfied that:

- The Fundraiser will supply a complete record of income and expenditure with supporting receipts and invoices within 4 weeks after the conclusion of the fundraising event;

- The fundraising activity fits in with the aims and values of Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation; and

- The fundraising activity is not considered high risk.

2.3. A Fundraiser ID number will be issued to the approved Fundraiser. The ID number should be

included in all correspondence with Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation.

2.4. The Fundraiser is not authorised to use Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation as its beneficiary charity until it has received the Letter of Authority. Permission to fundraise is issued for a period no longer than 12 months (or a time period otherwise specified by Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation to the Fundraiser).

2.5. The Fundraiser understands that Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation reserves the right to not approve or withdraw approval of this fundraising event at any time should the fundraising event or the fundraising event organisers fail to comply with these Fundraising Guidelines.

3. Organising the Fundraiser/Event

3.1. The fundraising event must be conducted in the name of the Fundraiser and is the sole responsibility of the Fundraiser. The Fundraiser must make it clear in all dealings with the public, sponsors and supporters that they are not employees or agents of Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation, nor are they acting in any other representative capacity.

3.2. Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation is not able to take a coordination role in organising the fundraising event and its officers cannot assist in soliciting prizes, organising publicity, or providing goods or services to assist the Fundraiser in the running of the fundraising event.

3.3. Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation does not provide public liability insurance coverage for Fundraisers. Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation suggests that Fundraisers may wish to consider joining forces with any existing groups (e.g. Scouts, Rotary or Lions) or hold their fundraising event at a venue that is already covered by public liability insurance.

3.4. If the Fundraiser intends to include extreme sports (such as parachuting, paragliding, bungee jumping or other extreme activities) or motor vehicle and motor bike racing as part of your fundraising event, Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation will require evidence of public liability insurance to cover the Fundraisers and participants before approving the fundraising event.

3.5. The Fundraiser must keep Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation up to date throughout planning for the fundraising event and must not proceed with the fundraising event without Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s prior consent.

Page 14: FUNDRAISING - Kookaburra Kids€¦ · Your generous fundraising efforts help us to provide a ... Decide on how you would like to Fundraise for Kookaburra Kids. If you are stuck for

012

If the Fundraiser has a business, they may wish to donate a percentage of sales over a period of time to Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation. The Fundraiser will need to contact Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s National Fundraising Team to make arrangements that satisfy Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation and the State Department’s guidelines for working with businesses.

3.6. For fundraising purposes, a child is anyone under the age of 18. The minimum age of children participating in a fundraising event as a volunteer is 8 years. There are specific codes of practice associated with children in fundraising that may apply. Please discuss with Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation if you intend to involve children in your fundraising event.

3.7. The Fundraiser verifies that they are in proper physical/mental condition to organise and run the fundraising event and acknowledge that they are aware of the risks involved and voluntarily agree to assume those risks.

4. The Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation Name and Logo

4.1. Please remember that the event will not be an Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation event, but an event to raise funds for donation to Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation. If the Fundraiser wishes to refer to or promote Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation subject to these Fundraising Guidelines, it must refer to Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation as “Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation”. Fundraiser has no right to the name “Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation “ nor is the Fundraiser given the right to raise funds in that name other than as set out in these Fundraising Guidelines.

4.2. Any use of Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s name and logo must be approved. Each fundraising event will be evaluated on a case by case basis and it is at the sole discretion of Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation whether name and logo usage is granted.

4.3. If permission for name and logo usage is granted, special conditions to be negotiated between Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation and the Fundraiser may apply, especially if the use of the logo is for marketing activities of the organisation.

4.4. All references to Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation in all promotional material (e.g. pamphlets, brochures or products), including text and images, whether taken from Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s website and print materials or another source, must be submitted to Australian Kookaburra Kids

Foundation for approval prior to publication. In some circumstances Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s Marketing Team may need to issue express permission for a specific use of Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s trademark or other brand elements and images owned by Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation.

4.5. If permission to use the Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation logo is granted, the Fundraiser must not alter, reproduce or amend the logo in any way that breaches the integrity of the trademark design (e.g. changes to colour, stretching or skewing original dimensions, cropping or additions to the design). Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation may provide approved logo files for the purpose of the Fundraiser.

4.6. Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation may approve the use of an acknowledgement stating the relationship between the fundraising event and Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation. Suggested wording includes:

- “Proudly supporting Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation”; or

- “Funds raised help support Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation”

4.7 Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation cannot undertake media relations on behalf of the Fundraiser but may provide advice on producing media materials. Please notify Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation if you intend to approach any media regarding your fundraising event. All printed material, such as media releases must be approved by Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation. Printed material must be forwarded to Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation for approval prior to being printed or circulated. Please forward all requests to [email protected].

5. Money Management – Finance, records and receipting

5.1. The financial aspects of fundraising, raffles, record keeping and management of the fundraising event are entirely the responsibility of the Fundraiser and the Fundraiser must comply with the Charitable Fundraising Act and Regulations (or the applicable legislation in your State or Territory).

5.2. The Charitable Fundraising Act and Regulations highlight the need to protect the public interest and accordingly Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation requires that Fundraisers:

5.4. Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation cannot pay expenses incurred by you, but you can deduct expenses necessary to conduct the fundraising event from the proceeds of your event, provided they are properly documented. (As a guide, total expenses should be less than 30% of total proceeds).

5.5. Funds raised for a donation to Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation cannot be used to make a donation to another organisation.

5.6. Any GST associated with the cost of fundraising is the responsibility of the Fundraiser.
