Thank you for considering HCC Kids’ College Camp for your child’s summer camp experience! Our camps bring children and teens opportunities to experience quality programs, learn new skills, make meaningful friendships, and rediscover themselves outside of their usual routines. A safe and fun summer that instills confidence in your child and creates wonderful memories.

Here at HCC, we strive for excellence because we know that a positive camp experience can be life-changing. We have the pleasure of working with dedicated, professional, energetic staff members who are enthusiastic about making camp exciting and educational. Our philosophy is simple. You are entrusting us with your most valuable possession. It is our job to responsibly care for your child while providing fun activities that will challenge them mentally, physically and creatively.

There may be a lot of summer camp options in the Tampa Bay area, but we believe HCC Kids’ College is the best camp where it’s fun to learn.

Art Expressions

Give your child the opportunity to express their inner creativity and build confidence and self-ex-pression in this mixed media art camp. Campers will explore a variety of techniques and media while learning to bring their work from doodles to masterpieces!

Broadcasting for Kids

Lights, camera, action! Train to be the next radio or TV star. Campers get hands-on broadcasting experience in HCC’s state-of- the-art, professional Hawk TV and radio studios.

DJ Mix-a-Lot

So, you want to be a DJ? This hands-on camp teaches the essential skills, such as blending, mixing, looping, beat-counting, and scratching. The final day features a performance where students showcase their new DJ skills. You’ll be breaking it down on the radio before you know it!

Dance Fever!

Dance and music are a great way for your boy or girl to learn valuable skills, make new friends, express their uniqueness and keep their bodies active. Campers learn a variety of dance styles as they work together to choreograph a creative performance that expresses their unique style.

Digital Design

Dive into the digital world as you learn the tricks of photo editing and layout in this introduction to Photoshop. Learn graphic design basics as you make fun and creative free drawings and try photo manipulation.

Home Alone

Whether or not your child is ready to stay home alone, this camp will give them the skills necessary to handle unexpected situations with confidence and knowledge. Participants will learn strategies to create a safe and positive environment, how to look after themselves for short periods of time, how to han-dle real-life situations, injury prevention and basic first aid.

Florida Explorers Travel Camp

Join our experienced environmental teacher and adventure guide as they travel to a different central Florida destination each day to explore all that the Sunshine State has to offer. Each trip focuses on a different ecosystem and includes experiential learning and outdoor fun. Students immerse themselves in nature at four distinct locations.

Marine Science Camp

Dive into marine science as we investigate the oceans of the world and the amazing marine ecosystems in our own backyard. This is an active, fun-filled camp where we will kayak backwaters and bayous, visit mangrove islands, engage in a sea grass study, and trawl the grass flats for catch-and-release sampling aboard a research boat.

Green Thumbs

Roll up your sleeves and get ready for dirt as we dig into the world of plants! Campers explore various growing and propagation methods, grafting, hydroponics, aquaponics and more. Students even start a container herb and vegetable garden for home.

Move It, Move It!

Let’s dance! We take kids’ natural desire to dance and help channel it into a story of motion. This camp utilizes creative stories along with the movement and dance to offer stu-dents a unique opportunity for expression.

Fishing Camp

Do your kids like to spend time outside in nature? This sportfishing camp is a great way for your child to build the confidence and skills for a hobby that will last a lifetime. Campers will learn about the different sportfish, techniques to tar-get those species, bait and lure fishing, knot tying, and most of all catching fish!

Checkmate!

Campers learn how to set-up a chess board; memorize the basic concepts and principles of the Opening,

Middle and End game; how the pieces move; basic tactics; and play in an

“opening-themed” tournament.

S.T.E.M. Camp

Join us this summer for an exciting week of Science, Technology, Engineering,

and Math. Learn about circuitry, leverage and mechanical advantage. Groups will also

problem solve and troubleshoot engineering challenges through calculations and

creativity.

Extreme Makeover Kids’ Edition

Give your personal space a virtual makeover! Discover the elements of interior design and learn tricks the pros use to turn a plain room into an awesome expression of yourself. Create mood boards, floor plans and a custom keepsake as you reinvent your bedroom.

That’s the Key! Typing

Set your child up for success in this kid-friendly introduction to keyboard typing. Children will learn and practice no-peek touch typing through a series of interactive lessons and skill-based games. Participants will receive the skills and resources to continue their development long after camp is done.

Police and Firefighting

Get up close and personal training as a police officers andfirefighters at the training academy. Campers perform radar speed checks, shoot fire hoses, serve on juries, and many other great hands-on activities just like our community heroes do.

Rescue and Safety

What should you do if you get lost? How about if a stranger knocks on the door? How about if a friend gets hurt? We will use role-playing to learn important rescue techniques and even practice first aid and hands-only CPR.

Young Architects Architecture is about making ideas come to life! Imagine, draw and model ideas with guidance from an architectural designer. Learn about the art and science of architecture and the concepts of structure, flow, functionality and aesthetics.

Fast and Furious Keyboarding

How fast can you go? Fast and Furious Keyboarding camp teaches participants touch typing, keyboard shortcuts and special characters through interactive lessons and skill-based games.

Shutterbugs

This camp introduces the camera and its features, along with the skills to take great photos. Campers will take many pictures of different subjects including, nature, portraits, architecture and close-ups.

Project Runway

From sewing to embellishing clothing, handbags, jeans, and jewelry, your child will experience the fabulous life of a fashionista. With guidance from a local designer, children will learn all they need to turn creative ideas into one-of-a-kind creations.

Kidding Around Yoga with KT

Campers engage in the full science of yoga tucked creatively into stories, games, activities and original songs Through the process, children learn stress management skills and healthy ways to express themselves.

Picture Perfect

Get hands-on experience with a professional photographer who teaches you the ins and outs of taking a good photograph while expressing your creativity! Explore concepts of lighting, balance, composition, texture and more to help get that perfect shot.

Mother Goose Mash-Up

Campers discover new ways to have fun and make friends by imagining a range of children’s stories, folk and fairy tales. They learn important basic acting skills like projection and stage presence while gaining confidence and developing their imaginations! Directed by David M. Jenkins, producing artistic director of Jobsite Theater.

Take the Stage!

Take center stage and engage in the wonders of live theatre performance. During this energetic camp, learn what it takes to become a stage actor through a series of high energy drama games, improvisation and scripted dia-logue that you help write!

Sign Language Start-Up

Learn the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) through fun activities and games. Campers develop the foundations, such as numbers and the alphabet, and many useful and interesting words and phrases. They come home with a number of signs to share and an eagerness to learn more!

Super Cool Science

Find out why science is so super cool as we investigate, experiment and discover. Learn about geography, chemistry, physics and nature through amazing experiments, and test your own hypothesis through the scientific method.

Super Sleuth CSI

Become a real crime scene investigator and learn what the pros do to help solve crimes! Collect and study the evidence of blood splatters, latent prints and more. Then test your investigative and scientific skills as you follow the evidence to crack the case.

Kid Entrepreneur: Idea Launch

This action-oriented camp takes participants on a journey from idea creation, to idea validation, to idea pitching! Campers participate in entrepreneurship and innovation by tapping into their passions, curiosity, and dreams.

EACH WEEK CAMP WILL FOCUS ON A DIFFERENT AREA OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY.

Mystery Machine

This is the perfect spot for young mystery solvers. Campers get hands-on experience as crime scene investigators and learn tips from the pros, like how to lift fingerprints and interpret clues.

Junior Vet

Great for science and animal fans, this camp is all about what veterinarians do. Campers learn about the amazing advances in modern veterinary medicine that help ensure the health and happiness of animals.

SUMMER SCIENCE ACADEMY

We are excited to offer this new, leading quality program, specifically designed for middle school students who are serious about science. Students learn from a scientific perspective through a curriculum developed and taught by HCC’s top science faculty. This is not your typical play camp, but rather real science performed in a college laboratory setting! Students participate in hands-on activities both in the lab and outdoors. The Summer Science Academy curriculum is designed to correlate with Florida Common Core standards and to encourage student interest in science and other STEM careers.

Summer Science: Biology

Investigate biological concepts of ecology, conservation, biodiversity, marine biology, cellularfunction, and catalase activity through, exploration, microscope study, labs, projects, guest speakers and a field trip to a coastal estuary.

Summer Science: Chemistry

Explore chemistry through models, experiments, demonstrations and hands-on activities. Topics include dimensional analysis, molecular structure, chemical and physical properties, polymers and redox reactions.

Summer Science: Microbiology

Study the smallest life and the human microbiome through hands-on activities, stains and, cultures, modeling, and labs. Learn about bacterial form and function, classification, DNA, epidemiology, disease, antibiotic action and resistance.

Summer Science: Physics

Learn about the properties of physics, including motion, force, conservation of energy, sound, electricity and light through engaging interactive experiments and exciting models. Students will even build their own telescope and Rube Goldberg machine!

Broadcasting Boot Camp Be the next radio or TV star in this hands-on career camp. Learn from HCC’s leading faculty in our state-of-the-art, professional Hawk TV and Radio studios in Ybor City. Experience the various jobs in broadcast and learn what steps to take to pursue this career. You will receive studio training both in front of and behind the microphone and camera.

Teen Entrepreneurs: Idea Launch

This action-oriented camp takes participants on a journey from idea creation, to idea validation, to idea pitching! Camp participants engage in entrepreneurship and innovation by tapping into their passion, curiosity, and dreams.

Healthcare Careers

Gain an introduction to the Allied Health care fields with HCC’s leading faculty in real laboratory settings. Partici-pants learn hands-only CPR and take home a CPR kit com-plete with the mannequin.

Teens explore careers in: - Radiation Therapy - Dentistry - Radiography - Nursing - EMS

Interior Design

Designing that perfect space is an art form. Explore the elements of interior design by learning the importance of textures, shapes, lighting and space in creating a room design, and how colors affect and reflect our personalities and moods. Create mood boards and floor plans to reinvent your unique space.

Keyboarding/Typing for Fun and Careers

Are you still using the two-finger hunt and peck method? Join this intensive training on typing and keyboarding. Few skills are more important in today’s world for recreation, career and social networking. Participants will learn and practice touch typing, keyboard shortcuts and special characters through interactive lessons and skill-based games.

TEEN CAREER AND LEADERSHIP CAMPS

Leadership and Teambuilding

Experience what makes an effective team of diverse people and personalities. This experiential program teaches leadership concepts through creative group problem solving. Participants discover their own personality type and learn to value and work with, and even celebrate, other personalities.

Architecture and Design

For teens who are interested in the art and science of architectural design, this camp includes an introduction to architectural and structural concepts, model building, freehand drawing and, CAD software.

We offer extended hours in the mornings

and afternoons to accommodate working

Teen Empowerment and Life Skills

Join us for Teen Empowerment Week, where we’ll learn about money matters, relationship building, interpersonal communication, study skills and becoming career-ready, while having lots of fun! Make new friends, and leave ready to face the world with greater confidence and self-reliance!

Teen Community Leadership

This informal social space for teens offers facilitated discussions and group activities that explore the problems and opportunities today’s teens face. The open-format models a non-judgmental, supportive community where participants may express their opinions and thoughts. Teens gain the confidence and skills to move forward as social leaders in their communities.

Veterinary Science Camp

Are you interested in a career in veterinary medicine? Learn about veterinary exams, animal illnesses, infectious diseases and how they are spread, reading radiographs, spay/neuter bandaging, and more in this exciting and educational camp!

Shakespeare’s Villains! Performing Arts Camp

Act out of some of the most diabolical scenes in the Shakespearean canon. Campers learn to perform Shakespeare and put their own spin on all sorts of villainous characters. No audition necessary; just sign up! All students will get roles. This camp is directed by David M. Jenkins, producing artistic director of Jobsite Theater.

Yoga and Mindfulness

This camp is designed to empower teenagers to become more self-aware and confident. Gain a sense of well-being through yoga postures emphasizing strength, exploration, flexibility and fun. Teens will learn practices of mindfulness and meditation to help balance the anxieties and pressures of growing up. Concepts of community, compassion and support unfold through each finely crafted class, centered on a daily theme.

Automotive Technology

Is your teen crazy about cars? Put their interests into overdrive with this program at the HCC Workforce Training Center, where students get their hands dirty while learning about vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, service, and collision repair in this modern facility.

Babysitter Boot Camp

Gain the skills to launch a successful babysitting business.Learn and practice safety, care and entertainment of the young child and marketing yourself as a babysitter. Students will earn their BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training), First Aid and CPR certifications.

Careers in Criminal Justice

Explore the many different careers available in criminal justice, including forensic psychology, law enforcement, victim advocacy, crime scene technology, homeland security and others. Visit the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as they run ballistic testing, meet with someone from Zephyrhills Prison, and learn the qualifications and standards required for entry into each of these challenging career fields.

Conversational Sign Language

This camp introduces the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) and is designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of ASL. Learn ASL questions, commands, and other simple sentence structures to develop basic conversational skills.

Softball

Calling all softball players who want to work on their skills! Our dedicated, experienced instructors create a safe and fun environment for focused, intensive training. Practice offensive and defensive skills, team drills, position work and individual help to improve your game.

Marine Science

App Attack!

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app and game development tool, students explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. Gain firsthand knowledge about app publishing functions. Student-created apps can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to app stores is not included. No prior experience is necessary, and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class.

Digital Storytellers

From the Hunger Games to Harry Potter we all love a great story. Whether you want to rewrite the ending to Star Wars, add yourself to a Divergent tale, or create a new adventure about your friends, any topic is possible in this class! Start with a concept, design the storyboard, add some dialogue, and watch as the characters in your imagination come to life in your first graphic novel!

LEGO Films and Stop Action!

Make your LEGOs come to life! Bring in your favorite action figures or LEGOs and create a short film with your friends. Whether you want to recreate a scene from Star Wars or design a world of your own, this class brings your dreams to the screen. Students need to bring in LEGOs or action figures from home, but all other equipment is provided.

BLACK ROCKET CAMPS

The magic in every camper comes to life as never before when they are empowered to be as creative as they were all born to be! Student created projects will be available on a private Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. 2D Video Games are only compatible on PC computers; however Mac versions can be created after the program for a $15.00 conversion fee.

Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

LEGO Video Games

Make Your First 3D Video Game! Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling.

Continue your quest to make the next viral app! Whether you want to move past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or jump right in, we are ready for you! Students choose from a selection of different web-based (HTML5) mobile apps and explore more in-depth programming concepts. Student-created apps can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to app stores is included. No prior experience is necessary, and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class.

Minecraft Designers

If you love the game Minecraft, but always wanted to design your own characters and buildings for your games, this class is for you! Learn the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, create skins for characters, and import them into your favorite Minecraft games. To access their project at home students must own a PC/MAC versions of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console version of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D modeling software.

New! Minecraft Animators

Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies like Inside Out and Frozen by using techniques such as keyframing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! You do not need to own a Minecraft account to use the software in this class.

Minecraft Modders

Use your favorite game to explore the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mod! Gain introductory coding skills through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. To access their projects at home students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible.

Video Game Animation

Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, and then develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and storyline. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in future games. Students do not need prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching.

Maker Labs: Make Your First 3D Creation!

Calling all kids who want to be the designers of the future! If you can dream it, you can make it. Create your first action figure, design custom jewelry, or make a new toy! Using professional-level modeling software, kids will sculpt, texture, and render their own 3D creation. No prior experience is necessary. 3D printing is not included, but can be purchased separately through a third party company.

We offer a discount for registrations of four weeks or more (must be purchased together). There is a discount for HCC employees and multi-sibling registrations. Discounts may be combined.

Refunds

If you find it necessary to cancel your registration, call the Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education office immediately at (813) 259-6010. Notify us first by phone and then follow-up your cancellation by written notification using U.S. Mail, fax, email ([email protected]) or hand-delivery letter. Written notice must be received two days prior to the program start date to be eligible for a refund. Refunds will not be made after the start of any program. We reserve the right to cancel activities that do not meet minimum enrollment levels or for other good cause. Any activities that we choose to cancel will be fully refunded.

Scholarships

Scholarships for summer camps are now available for youth in the Tampa Bay area whose families demonstrate financial need. Families who qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program may qualify for a scholarship. Due to limited funding, scholarships are given on a first-come, first-served basis. Scholarships are made possible by the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation.

What should my child wear?

We suggest comfortable play clothes and closed-toe shoes. Our camps follow the Hillsborough County School system’s dress code policy. One camp T-shirt will be provided for each camper on the first day of camp. Additional shirts are available for purchase at a cost of $10.00. Some of our camps, such as athletic and travel camps, may have specific clothing requirements.

What time does camp start?

Kids’ College and Teen Camps offer both half-day and full-day sessions: Monday, June 13 - Friday, August 5, 2016.

Our regular camp hours are: 9:00am - 4:00pm.

Early drop-off and late pick-up are available at a minimal cost.

Early drop off time starts at 7:30 am.

Late pick up ends at 5:30 pm.

What should my child bring?

We recommend that each camper brings a refillable water bottle, two snacks, and a sense of adventure. All participants will received a nutritious breakfast and lunch each day.

Early Departures

Early departures can usually be accommodated, provided advance notice is given. Please provide written notice to staff at check-in or check-out one day in advance. Please remember that a photo ID is required when picking up a camper.

Campers should be picked-up at designated areas only. Children will only be allowed to leave with authorized persons. A picture ID will be required for checking out children.
