Everyone loves stories. Stories toldwith feeling and expression willlive on in children’s minds for along, long time.

Stories are great resources with somany uses and tools that can helpchildren to learn English, whilehaving fun and getting real hands-on experience.

They can be plays, word treasurehunts, chants and so much more.

Teaching children to read can be veryrewarding if you use lots of techniquesthat support their development.

Important teaching tips:

• Talking about the story• Vocabulary of reading• Phonic sounds• Segmenting and blending sounds to

make words• Using pictures as clues• Look for high frequency words• Read and think• Read in pairs• Ask questions

The main reason we learn a language is touse it!

We need to help our pupils speak and useEnglish with confidence.

In this workshop you will practice simpletechniques and use resources that will helpyou guide your pupils and build theirconfidence to ask questions, to respond tostimuli and improve their ability to speak ineveryday English that is relevant to theirneeds.

Grammar is an essential part oflanguage learning.

It is possible to help children fromearly primary begin to identifygrammar building blocks, whetherphrases, sentences, orpunctuation.

Careful planning and fun activitieswill help pupils understand anduse grammar items effectively inwriting and speaking.
