  • Financial Stewardship For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matt. 6:21

On Mission for the Church Alive! www.OnMissionChurch Alive.org

The Kingdom of God is at Hand In the early days of the Church, the Christian community thought that the coming of the Kingdom and Jesus return in glory was quickly approaching. They lived their lives with constant anticipation and expectation so that they would be prepared for the day of the Lord to come. 2,000 years later we are still waiting for that day when the Lord will come again to judge the living and the dead and welcome the just ones into his Kingdom in heaven. Yet, we are also aware that the Kingdom is currently at hand in and through the Church on earth. This means that each of us, no matter our state in life, plays a role in building up and strengthening the Kingdom of God. The On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative seeks to do just that: build up the Kingdom of God, the

Church, so that it can grow and thrive. The Church is alive and is given greater vibrancy the more we are engaged in its life and work. Let us all do our part to contribute to the flourishing of our parish communities in the weeks and months ahead. Visit onmis-sionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

All new, first-time, contributors to PSP will have their donation matched dollar for dollar, up to a total do-nation to the Parish of $10,000. As of this date, weve received $55 from two donors. If youve considered a PSP gift before, but never followed through, this is an opportunity to double your money. New donors are asked to mark their Parish Share envelopes FIRST TIME DONOR so that we can count your donations toward the challenge before it expires on Feb. 28, 2018. Thanks!

Giant Eagle Gift Card "Success Story" I needed to pur-chase textbooks for my second semester at Robert Morris University. Wanting to support Catholic education, I went online (http://shopwithscrip. com using enrollment code ABD561E158672) and bought $300 worth of Barnes &

Noble gift cards. Because B & N manages the bookstore at RMU, I was able to use the gift cards to buy my textbooks. My purchase netted $12 for Our Lady of Fatima School; over my remaining six semesters, Ill make at least $84 for Catholic education. If 12 college students used gift cards, such as no-fee VISA cards, B & N cards or Amazon gift cards, for their textbooks, wed make over $1,000 each semester! Help us out!

  • FROM POPE FRANCIS CATECHESIS SERIES on the MASS

Sin separates us from both God an neighbor Hannah Brockhaus

On Wednesday, (1/3/18) Pope Francis emphasized how sin breaks our relationship with God and with our community, which is why at the beginning of every Mass we pause to recognize our sinfulness and ask for forgiveness.

Sin severs: Severs the relationship with God and severs the relationship with our brothers, the relationship with family, with society, with the community: Sin always severs, separates, divides.

The Penitential Rite, at the beginning of Mass, favors the attitude with which to dispose oneself to worthily celebrate the holy mysteries, that is, recognizing our sins before God and our brothers, recognizing that we are sinners.

Pope Francis continued his weekly audience catechesis on the topic of the Mass, focusing on the part where we make a general confession, professing to God and brothers that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do.

He emphasized how we even confess to omissions in deed, which means the times we failed to do good. We often feel good because lets say I did not hurt any-one, the Pope said. In reality, it is not enough not to harm our neighbor, we need to choose to do good, seizing the occasions for giving positive testimony that we are disciples of Jesus.

When we pray the Confiteor, as the prayer is called, we confess to both God and our brothers and sisters that we are fellow sinners. And it helps us to understand how sin not only separates us from God, but also from our fellow human being, he said.

Then, when we make the gesture of beating our breast, repeating the words through my fault three times,
