Dear Guest

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the FT Digital Media & Broadcasting Conference here atthe Millennium Mayfair Hotel in London.

For over 20 years, the Financial Times has run a conference in the broadcasting space, and in a fastpaced industry such as this, the title of the event has had to change to keep pace with the industry. What started out as the FT Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Conference became the FT New Media &Broadcasting Conference in the 1990s, until the word “new” started to look old, hence the currentincarnation as the FT Digital Media & Broadcasting Conference. In spite of the name changes, theevent goes from strength to strength and has become an annual flagship event in the mediaindustry’s calendar.

The theme of this year’s conference is “From Idea to Execution”. There is now a digital strategy at theheart of every media business model. The global media players are finally coming round to the ideathat digital is more than just a new way to receive traditional media. The challenge now for the bigmedia players is to put themselves in the driving seat to distribute their content as widely as possible, across the different platforms and search engines, whilst collecting a share of the revenue along theway. For, even as media players start to move from idea to execution, technology and the internet arealready racing ahead with new ideas and shaking up the media value chain.

We hope that you will enjoy what promises to be another successful event.

Yours sincerely

Jayne Van HoenFinancial Times
