Maths Activity Focus: use everyday language related to time

Today we will be learning about time. Please watch the video posted by your class teacher on class dojo. First you might like to watch the video about ‘Different times of the Day’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqNaVXycr_o Discuss what day time and night time look like. Use these questions to support your child: How do we know it is night time? What will I see outside? How do I know it is the morning? Literacy Activity Focus: read the words from the story and match them to the correct picture.

Today we will begin to learn about a new story: Superworm. Please watch the video posted by your class teacher on class dojo. First, talk to your child about the story ‘Superworm’. Questions to ask your child about the story: What happened in the story? Who are the characters? What did Superworm do to help his friends? What did Wizard Lizard do to Superworm? How did the insects save Superworm from Wizard Lizard? Then, complete the activity in your home learning pack or download this sheet from our Weebly website. Can you read the words and stick the correct picture in the box. Use your phonics knowledge to help you - say the sounds and blend them together. (c – a – t = cat)

Math Activity Focus: use everyday language related to time

Today we will be learning about time. The children will be thinking about their daily routine and when they do different tasks throughout the day. Please watch the video posted by your class teacher on class dojo. First you might like to watch the ‘My Day’ video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD1pnquN_DM. Questions to ask your child: What did the character in the video do? What did he do first? Why did he eat his breakfast and then brush his teeth? Next, ask your child to tell you what they do before they go to school in the morning. Encourage them to act out their morning routine, showing you what they do and talking about each of the tasks. After that, complete the activity in your home learning pack or download this sheet from our Weebly website. Talk about the images displayed – can your child talk about what the character is doing in a full sentence. For example: “The girl is brushing her teeth.” NOT “brush her teeth” Can you draw or stick the pictures in the boxes to explain the order you think the character would complete them in. Record a video of your child talking about the daily routine they have made. Encourage them to use openers as they do this - first, then, next, after that, last.

Literacy Activity Focus: retell the story of Superworm and answer questions about it.

Today we will be learning about the story ‘Superworm’. Please watch the video posted by your class teacher on class dojo. First, you might like to let your child listen to the story again to help them recall the key events: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0keNDquvZEE Questions to ask your child: Where does Superworm live? Why did Superworm need to be a fishing line? What did the Wizard Lizard want Superworm to do? Next, make some non-cook playdough with your child. You will need: flour, salt, water and some food colouring. Please watch the video to support you in making this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAIAm6BF0fs Last, complete you literacy focus task. Can you create the characters and setting from the story? Once you have done this retell the story using your playdough models. Think about how Superworm moves as you do this. Remember to take a picture of your creation and share it with your class teacher.

Math Activity Focus: name and describe 3D shapes

Today we will be learning about 3D shapes, you will have to name and describe them. Please watch the video posted by your class teacher on class dojo.

First you might like to sing the 3D shape song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guNdJ5MtX1A Questions to ask your child: What shapes did you see in the video? How many corners does a cone have? Does a sphere have a corner? Can you think of something we have in the house that is a cube? How do you know it is a cube? Next, encourage your child to go on a 3D shape hunt around the house. They can point to the 3D shapes they see and name them or you can ask them to bring you a selection of shapes. They can then take a picture of the shapes they have found to share with their class teacher. After that, complete the activity in your home learning pack or download this sheet from our Weebly website. Your child needs to look at the objects and stick them in the correct shape box.
