RESEARCH REPORT PREVIEWFRONT-WHEEL-ASSIST TRACTORS
Australia’s cropping soils are getting softer as a result of the ongoing adoption of minimal- and zero-tillage practices, the use of wider row spacings, advances in sowing technology and controlled traffi c implementation. These softer soils have seen a reduction in the power requirements of pull implements.
Some farmers are replacing their four-wheel-drive tractors with less expensive, more adaptable FWA models. The main benefi t of front-wheel-assist machines is their versatility. They are equally suited to sowing operations as they are to spraying.
All you need to know about FWA tractors
In this month’s Group Talk, Kondinin Group engineer Ben White reviews the specifi cations of more than 100 front-wheel-assist (FWA) tractors of more than 74.5kW (100hp) from12 manufacturers. Readers will also fi nd a snapshot of the latest technologies to be included on these handy machines and a checklist of buying considerations when investing in one.
They are able to pull a trailing boomspray; have a front-end loader fi tted and also offer three-point linkage connectivity.
But with numerous options, extras and specifi cations for every model, selecting the most suitable machine can be an onerous task. To help in the process of comparing and understanding each of the options available, Group Talk provides the specifi cations of machines from 12 manufacturers.
