From the Principals Desk…….. Cudal Public School has started back at a blistering pace with students and teachers setting goals and expectations for the term of learning ahead. Working together at Cudal Public School to support one another in the playground is a focus area moving towards the middle of this term. Having high expectations of how students treat and interact with each other is extremely important when building on a positive learning environment. With the support of staff, students are working on the following goals: Playground expectations Showing Respect Including Others Building Resilience These goals set a great direction to further enhance the culture of collaboration and kindness we have in our wonderful school. The staff at Cudal Public School are looking forward to seeing students working on these goals in the coming weeks. Changes to Pupil Free Day Term 1 & 2 The OSSA Network group have organised a professional learning day for all staff from the associated small schools, which includes Cudal. This will be a Visible Learning workshop which is an ongoing staff learning program run for three years. The unfortunate side is that the only date that this can be conducted is Thursday 9th April, which is last day of term 1. Therefore, we have exchanged the staff development day for term 2 (Monday 27 April) to this term. This means students will not come to school on THURSDAY 9TH APRIL, it will now be a PUPIL FREE DAY (staff development day). Outcome is there will be NO Pupil Free Day in term 2, ALL students will return to school on Monday 27th April. Young Leaders Day Stage 3 students have been offered an exciting opportunity to attend the ‘National Young Leaders Day’. The day is delivered by Halogen Australia who exists to inspire & influence a generation of young people to lead themselves and others well. Guest speakers with a vast range of backgrounds and life experiences will expand students understanding of what it means to be a leaders. The Young Leaders Day will be held on Monday 2nd March at the International Convention Centre, Darling Harbour. Students attendance was optional, not compulsory. In addition, parents are to provide private transport and attendance to the conference. I look forward to talking to the students about this on their return. Maths Mentals in Stage 2 During maths mental activities in the year 3/4 classroom, students engage in peer learning with wonderful results. Students are encouraged to complete their work independently first and then move to the floor where they discuss the answers they have arrived at. Each student must justify their working out, explaining how they achieved their answer. If two students both think they have the correct answer then they come to me and we work through the question together. We mark each unit together in our groups trying to improve our individual daily score. Peer learning is a powerful tool boosting confidence and improving knowledge in all students.

Year 2 Computer Skills

In Year 2 the students have been learning their computer logins and how to login independently. The students have been practicing during morning L3 rotations and Maths rotations. These activities along with the commencement of the Typing Tournament program will enhance their ability to type using two hands.

Nicole Blandford - Class Teacher

Sasha Adams

“I like maths mentals because we get to do hard stuff and it’s challenging”.

“I like computers but I can only type with one finger at a time yet”.

Daybreak Rotary Club of Orange

A huge thank you to Daybreak Rotary Orange for their kind donation of 20 school bags, complete with lunch boxes, books and pencil cases and everything a student would need to start a school year with. Your surprise visit and donation was generous and greatly appreciated by the lucky students who received a kit.

Our school will be participating in school clean up day on Friday 28 February. This involves students and staff walking around Cudal in groups collecting any rubbish or recycled items in the bags sent to us as part of the campaign. There are some gloves available for the students to wear, however if you have your own that would be helpful. Every group will be accompanied by a staff member and year 6 leader. If any parents or community members would like to join us please feel welcome to assist.

NRL Roads to Regions Visit The NRL Roads to Regions tour sees NRL and NRLW players, as well as former stars, visiting schools throughout remove and regional Australia. They are delivering programs in schools, focusing on respectful relationships, as well as running junior clinics in some areas. Our students thoroughly enjoyed their visit, including interactive games in the classroom with some students winning prizes. Thank you to the NRL and to visiting players Enari Tuala—Newcastle Knights and Shawn Blore—Penrith Panthers. Year 3/4 incorporated the visit into their story writing. Here is Rupert Hough’s recount. Rupert’s Story…..

Yesterday, some NRL people came to talk about RESPECT. We watched a video of players talking about respect to each other and our self. This is what they say—Drink lots of water throughout the day, healthy ea ng, lots of sleep and posi ve thoughts. We also learnt about team sportsmanship, like shaking hands a er a game even if you win or lose. Another think we learnt about is respec ng our self. You have posi ve thoughts and stay fit. A saying for treat others the way you want to be treated, is throw the ball the way you want to receive it. We are all stars in our own way. Yesterday was great and I hope they come again!

Visiting Incursion - Aboriginal Story Teller On Friday 28th February, Larry Brandy - Aboriginal Storyteller will be visiting our school to share his passion of Aboriginal culture. Larry tells his story through interaction with students (as emus & kangaroos), uses real tools and artefacts to show how Aboriginal people used great innovations to survive. All students K-6 will attend the performance at 1:30pm.

P&C Report Over the last two weekends our parents have shown extreme generosity, care & kindness through baking & volunteering time & help. We were very hon-oured to be offered the roll of catering for the wake for the late Bill Ryan, a very treasured member of the Cudal community who sadly passed earlier this month. The baking was magnificent & the help on the day exemplary, thank you everyone! I know the Ryan family were overjoyed & tremendously grateful to our school community. Just this last weekend 125+ motor cycle riders & enthusiasts popped into our charming little school to enjoy yet another baking extravaganza put on by you / us for morning tea. We are proud to say we raised approx. $1200, made from the catering, along with a fabulous 100’s club & a quick raffle put together by the ever enthusiastic Kirsty Sansom. Thank you to Heifer Station Wines & SeeSaw Wines, for your kind donation to our raffle. The Orange Motor Cycle members & riders from afar were overwhelmed by the generous & scrumptious spread of food that was laid out for them, not to men-tion the hospitality & the wide eyed happy students who attended & helped on the morning! There are too many of you to mention individually who generous-ly helped out, you know who you are ... a very large thank you to one & all. Let’s keep doing it for the kids! Next Fund raisers are lunches at the OSSA Cross Country (Week 10) & District Cross Country (Week 2 Term 2). Raine Whittle will be our main coordinator for these events. Next Meeting - Wed 4th March, 2020, 6pm. Please come along to support our students & staff of Cudal PS. Bring your ideas/thoughts in!! P&C Committee for 2020 President - Heidi Bowden (returned) Vice Presidents - Bev Irvine & Kate Gordon Secretary - Phoenix Kamsteeg (returned) Treasurer - Raine Whittle And a big thank you to the outgoing Committee Members - Rachel Griffith, An-drew Squire & Beck Lewis.
