From the Principal
Welcome back to Ashford CS for Term Three. We have commenced the term with a renewed focus on our Posi ve Behaviour for Learning (PBL) across the school. This term, we are looking at Classroom Respect. This important skill is part of our STAR strategy which includes S‐ Safety, T‐Teamwork, A‐Achievement and R‐ Respect. Teachers will be encouraging students to build their capabili es in how they interact with others and have been instructed to be firm, fair and consistent when dealing with student behaviour. I request all families to speak with their children around what is appropriate behaviour. The school works closely with many members of the Ashford community to improve the quality of educa on at our school. We hope to increase this involvement with the community and seek members of our community wiling to come in and be a part of con nued quality improvement at ACS.
Staff Cultural Excursion: On commencing our return to school this term, the staff were invited to learn about the Aboriginal cultural history and families from our area. We travelled to Dead Bird Mission and Reedy Creek to hear of the rich tapestry from three local Aboriginal community members: Leo Saunders, Malcolm (Brian) Talbot and Elaine Williams. Personally, I found the experience rive ng and look forward to our students ge ng the opportunity to hear about the life and mes of people living in these areas. On behalf of ACS staff, please accept our sincere gra tude for your me in showing us your history.
The standard you walk past, is the
standard you accept.

Sapphire Community of Schools – Educa on Week Awards: On Wednesday the 7th of August, our school will par cipate in awarding 3 worthy recipients from within our school and community that exhibit a dedica on and commitment to educa on. School Uniforms: Some students are con nuing to wear non‐school jumpers, jackets and hoodies to school. Students must wear the correct school uniform to school each day. Please ensure that your child is ready for school in the proper school uniform as pictured:
Why Learning the Times Tables is Really Important: Learning mul plica on is an important founda on for learning different aspects of mathema cs such as division, algebra, long mul plica on, and even frac ons. The real life applica ons for being able to understand how groups of numbers come together and can be divided is immeasurable ‐ it covers all occupa ons. For students that don't have a solid grasp of the mes tables, they may find these other areas to be hard to understand as well, and may fall behind in their Mathema cs lessons. At ACS we want to help your child have success by making sure they know their mes tables. All Year 4 students and up are encouraged to have their me tables memorised. How you can help your child: make sure your child places their metables
up on their wall (other sugges ons are the
kitchen fridge or in the bathroom!) find out which tables they don't know yet provide encouragement and have fun learning
together show prac cal ways you use the metables
when cooking, shopping, working out your budget
search online games such as mazes, puzzles, connect 4 and arcade shoo ng games that use mes tables. Simply search " mes tables
games". We hope that by improving student knowledge as early as possible, we can gain greater achievement in educa on. How can I boost my mental health? Some prac cal ways to improve your wellbeing every day. Get enough sleep ‐ Sleeping well is good for
your brain and body. It helps you feel energised, focused and protects your mental health. See our sleep fact sheet for more informa on and advice.
Eat well ‐ Ea ng well can improve your mood, energy levels and general health and wellbeing. Fill up on nutri ous food (like veggies, fruit and whole grains) and drink plenty of water to give your body and brain all the power it needs to func on well.
Get in to life ‐ Keep doing the stuff you love to do and the things that are important to you. It can help keep the fun in your life, give you a sense of accomplishment and purpose, boost your confidence and help to connect with others.
Some of these things, such as ska ng, reading or playing the guitar, might just be for fun, but other things like work or study can give you new skills and might help to give you meaning.
Stay ac ve ‐ Staying ac ve can help you to sleep be er, manage stress and boost your mood.
Make me to take a break from study or work or hanging out, whether it be going to the gym, kicking a ball around with a mate or just going for a walk. Whatever it is, start small, and make sure it’s something you enjoy.
Connect ‐ Spending me with family, friends (including pets) and people in your community can help strengthen your mental health and wellbeing.
