    Positive Behaviour for Learning Focus

Respect Property We need to respect all property within our school. When we respect all property, including toilets and taps we are demonstrating the school rules We Are Safe and We are Kind. Learning to Read Learning to read is a complex skill. Each week, we will include some hints and tips for you to use at home to help your child learn to read and comprehend.

    Vocabulary

When students have a well developed range of vocabulary it helps with reading.

How can you help expand your child’s vocabulary:

Can you think of as many words with your child about a topic?

Here is a website for some fun activities to do at home in the holidays:

  • Once there was a little brown puppy who loved his family. Destiny 1S Once there was a little brown puppy. He went to the shops. He had a great time. Tye 1S

The rocky pathways started to shake, mist rolled in from behind and in front making it hard to see. “Help”! Screamed Rowan who was just holding onto the jiggered rocks which were piercing his hand. Blood was dripping down his arm. Xander 4J The icy stairs were making Rowan and Strong John slip. John fell! “Help”, he said. Rowan had to help him, he couldn’t go on the Quest along. 4J The boulders from the top of the ceiling came tumbling down like bullets. 4J Rowan smelled foggy smoke. He saw the red hot lava. Underneath him, the ground was slowly sink-ing. (Elijah, 4W) It was boiling hot. There was a strange rumbling sound. They saw lava. The dragon roared. (Ruby, 4C) The wind whistled and then everything collapsed into the ground. (Owen, 4C) "AAh!" Rowan screamed, "The ground is moving!" Rowan's heart pounded as the ground shook. (Bailey, 4W) When I went hot air Ballooning I saw the most satisfying fluffy clouds the birds flying past. I heard the birds squawking I could smell the bird poo and the salty air. My family and I tasted the food and we could taste the smoke I felt scared. I touched the straws on the basket we all saw the other colourful hot air balloons rising. Jayani 4M

  • As I jump out of a plane, I can see clouds surrounding me and the bright sun in my face. Birds are flying

over my head. When I see myself closer to earth, I can see the mountain tops. When I had jumped out

an enormous parachute would appear. When I jump out, I felt scared and petrified. I could feel the

powerful wind pushing me. Mia 4M

“Ahhh” I can feel the salty air surrounding me and the soft clouds gathering upon me. I can hear the

plane engines not far above as the strong wind blows in my face. I can see the snowy mountain tops

far, far away. I’m proud and confident although I’m petrified, this might be the end! Lashae 4M

Splash! Sharp, beautiful coral and grey, dark scales looks like a Megalodon. The pressure beating of my little ears as I shoot down and pounding of my heart beat. The fresh juicy blood from the megalodon eating many people. The liquidly clear water zooming as I swim in the deep sea and touched a shark with my long pointing finger. The salty water coming through the gap of the air mask. Fear coming up as I go down. Little tears coming as I get emotional. Tara 4M Terrorised to even mutter my name and imagine me, I roam around the village striking fear into the hearts of the villagers. Walter 5S Disgusting. Greedy. I loathe that revolting reptile. My husband would slowly stroke the pest as his ap-petite settled. I would loudly express that those beasts have no purpose, though my husband would rock in his old rocking chair and make us all quake. Ava 5S As father stroked the ten feet long reptile, mother looked at him and the snake in horror. Mother thought that father was crazy because of how much he loved the snake, mother desperately wanted it gone. But nobody would dare to argue with father especially about the carpet sake, for it was his to-tem. Liyana 5S I dive into the deep sea. The beautiful fish swimming side by side in the water but then I could hear the soft waves swishing in the water. Suddenly I smelt the salty water as I swam along. Lavanah 4M

It's my first day skateboarding and I feel scared and afraid and I can see the ramp and other skate-

boarders. I can hear the loud wheels on the ramp and people laughing. It stinks like sweat. I taste the

hot air in my mouth. I feel the railing as I walk up. Mikayla 4M

I had a mischievous smile I knew exactly what to do. Poison him! I laughed wickedly as my gloomy

shadow reflected on the clean marble floor the snake slithered past me I KILL THAT ROBBER! I growled

as ferocious as a tiger that hadn’t been fed in days I knew that he would rather kill a human than a car-

pet snake so I had to be as careful as a mouse getting cheese from a mouse trap but I forgot about the

snake and that gigantic bulge of his so when I wasn’t looking he slithered past me down the spiral

    staircase. Vishu 5S

I saw the fluffy clouds flying past me. I didn’t think I would come down. Crows were squawking so loud

it almost made me deaf. I smelt the smoke coming from the air and I could taste the salty greasy air

that made me calm. After I landed I had some champagne and relaxed so that was my experience of

    hot air ballooning. Eadie 4M

Elizabeth stole only one bread stick. She tried to run but as soon as she did the governess had a hold of her. Ella was standing right there she got scared. Elizabeth saw Ella. tried to shoo her off, and then the governess dismissed her. Elizabeth said "that's it Ella, we got to sneak out" she whispered. Cara 4M
