We have a very short timeline for interview times to be booked and ask that requests are received in our Campus offices by the end of this week. While this Friday is a study day for students, our offices will be open to receive your requests. Students and staff who attended our VET Hospitality and Outdoor Education ski excursions have returned home safely and well satisfied with the excellence of these wonderful learning experiences. Many thanks to the members of staff who organised and supported these adventures! On 18 September we celebrate our first College Colours Day. An initiative of our students, we have given over the formal College Assembly to a day when we can relax a little, be reminded of our tradition and the story of the religious orders that founded GYC, commend students who have excelled in their learning and contribution to our community and enjoy the company of all students and staff from both campuses. The day will continue with a carnival theme … jumping castle, tug of war, dunking machine, rock bands, climbing wall and much more. Nutritious hotdogs, fairy floss and the usual cuisine of the ‘show grounds’ will add to our day of fun at the fair! The formality of our usual assembly will be traded for a moment of frivolity and friendship just in time before the pressure mounts as we move towards the demands of final assessment. Well done and thank you to our students for reminding us that every now and again, even in ‘big school’, we must give ourselves permission to relax, enjoy one another as Team GYC, and simply be. Students are invited to wear casual clothes in the colour of their House and bring cash along for lunch, games and activities. Mrs Bobby Court FROM THE PRINCIPAL Our world continues to cry out for people of good sense, compassion and truth to proclaim loudly that we are all God’s creation, loved into existence with the promise of communion with one another and in co-existence with the earth. We look to the anguish of those who have been denied this certainty -- the homeless, the refugee, the aggressed, the orphan, the isolated -- and what we see stirs in us a want, as protectors of what is right and good, to speak up, to work for justice and pray that we return to our reason for being and the opportunity to claim peace over conflict, forgiveness over retribution and life over death. We pray that the fracturing and mindlessness confronting our humanity gives way to forgiveness and acceptance. FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPALS REPORTS This week you will have received mid-year reports in the mail. Our teachers have taken time to write meaningful pro- gress assessment and comments for you. Our intent is to provide timely, clear and accurate information about the pro- gress of your son’s/ daughter’s learning. Please take the time to have a conversation together, to reflect on where they are and to assist them with in the coming weeks. To support this further, the Parent Student Teacher Interviews will be held next Tuesday. These conversa- tions are very beneficial. Please see Mrs Court’s important comments above in relation to booking interviews. There is no requirement for students to wear uniform. STUDENT LEADERSHIP In the coming weeks students will be involved in electing their student leaders for 2015. Applicants undertake a rigorous process including application, interview, delivering a speech and a staff and student vote. We look forward to announc- ing our student leaders for 2015 soon. COLLEGE COLOURS DAY On Thursday 18 September our College community will enjoy College Colours Day at the Glenorchy Campus. This day will bring together aspects of our past in celebration with the present. Our purpose is to honour our community and spend time with each other as a College. For our charity fund-raising efforts, we ask that students use gold coins. Card facilities will not be available. We are looking forward to the day. QUALITY ASSURANCE DAY

TOMORROW, 5 SEPTEMBER, all teachers will be involved in our QA Day. Quality Assurance is a process to ensure comparability of standards, academic integrity and authenticity around the delivery of curriculum and assessment. On this day we will meet with our senior secondary colleagues in the state colleges and independent schools. It is one of our most valuable professional learning experiences for the year. As noted on the College calendar, this is a student free day.

EXTERNALLY ASSESSED FOLIOS

As part of the external assessment, some TQA 3 courses have an externally assessed folio. Over the coming weeks, the teachers of those courses will require students to focus on assembling and submitting their folio to the TQA. Strict proce-dures and deadlines apply to the folios and it is essential that students are working in co-operation with their teachers to ensure that these are observed as required by the TQA. Failure to adhere to the process will mean a student has not satisfied the external assessment requirements of the course. The names of relevant courses and the due dates for folio submission can be accessed at www.tqa.tas.gov.au/2043

Year 11 students will attend a pre-counselling session on Thursday 25 September and will be assisted by their tutors in making their course selections for 2015.
