February 2013
Volume 6 Issue 4 With the arrival of the second quarter report cards also comes the dawn of
the third quarter. We are now at the half-way point of our school year.
This is the time to finish the foundation of a successful year. It is time for
some of us to turn things around and finish on a high note. This is definite-
ly not the time to slow down or quit. This is crunch time. Please do not get
behind in your classes. Make sure that our assignments are turned in on
time. Keep studying. There will be time to have fun. The harder we work
now, the more opportunity we will have to enjoy ourselves at the end of the
year. As Spring starts to bloom around us, we do not want to be worrying
about passing a class or a grade level. The year is quickly passing by.
Dorchester School District Four Parent Child Home Program Now Accepting Applications
Dorchester School District Four announces that the Parent Child Home Program is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year.
The Parent Child Home Program is an early childhood literacy, parenting and school readiness program.
The program has trained professional parent educators to work with families in preparing children for academic success as well as strength-ening families through home visits. A parent educator conducts home visits twice a week for thirty minutes each, bringing age appropriate
educational books and toys that the parents can keep.
If you have a child ages 2-3 years old and would like to participate please contact one of the parent educators,
Mrs. Delores Footman or Mrs. Roslyn Young at 843-563-5923.

Up to this point, I have written about academics, websites, etc. This month’s entry takes a different turn because instead of meeting the academic needs of students, I want to share a new way that we are meeting the physical needs of students. SGMS has just put in a place a clothing closet called Just –In-Case (JIC) Student Outfitters. The Rotary Club, working with the Lowcounty Orphan Re-lief (LOC), has established and will sustain this initiative. Our JIC closet is now stocked with clothes that students can wear for the remainder of a school day in case their clothes become unwearable through an accident, spill, etc. In these cases, we ask that the clothes are washed and returned. Also, if a student is in a situation to not have adequate clothing, clothing can be provided from the JIC closet. Nurse Judy will be our JIC Coordinator. If clothes are borrowed from the closet, she will send a letter home explaining the circumstances. She will also be the one that the clothes should be returned to after they are washed. Much appreciation goes to the Rotary Club for selecting SGMS for this project. It will fill a need for stu-dents which will allow for as little interruption to the academic school day as possible.

Greetings! In the Guidance Department, there are many exciting things that have taken place since the first day of school. Staff members were given the opportunity gain hands on experience in the field of fast food. We all had a wonderful time! Wolverine in the News: Wolverine in the News: Our W. I. N. students for the months of December/January were: Canadra Brownlee, Jada Green, Christopher Brown,
Christian Dallas, Rasha Ling, Kanaya Warren, Tyree Miller, Trey Wolfe and Charles McAlhaney. These students were honored by their respective grade level teachers for demonstrating the character word of the month, determination and displaying superb behavior throughout the school. These students were recognized at the monthly W. I. N. Celebration Luncheon on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Congratulations go out to all of these students! Testing: Testing: This is the time of year when we begin to prepare for our statewide assessments. This year, St. George Middle School has been selected to administer the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test.
