Rockin’ the Vote

Chefs For Scholarships was a Perfect Recipe for a Delicious Day OutFood, fun and festivities were on the menu at the Golden West College Patrons 7th Annual Chefs for Scholarships event on Sunday September 23rd.

This popular community event has become the unofficial end to the lazy, hazy days of summer and the beautiful Golden West College campus was the perfect setting for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon with friends and family.

Chefs from outstanding eateries in Huntington Beach and surrounding areas served everything from barbecue and pastas to foods representing the tastes of Japan, Germany, Mexico, Hawaii, France and more! (Along with ridiculously scrumptious desserts and outstanding wines and beer!)

Guests bid on fantastic silent auction offerings, and tried their luck on a wide variety of raffle prizes. The grand prize was an iPad and Visa gift card, won by Terri Zwick.

Music filled the air as guests selected their favorite song on the jukebox and the Swing Kittens entertained us with a sizzling set of three-part harmony. The kids enjoyed the game truck, clowns, and arts & crafts station.

Chefs for Scholarships is all about food and fun, but it’s also about doing something really good in our community: raising funds for scholarships. This year’s focus was on the educational needs of returning veterans. Young men and women who have given our country years of their lives in service often find themselves at a crossroads upon returning home and cuts in federal and state budgets very often impact their ability to pay for their educational needs in pursuit of a new career. Chefs for Scholarships helps to fill that gap for several of these heroes.

The Golden West College Patrons thank the sponsors, donors, participants, volunteers, and guests for making this a very successful event.

On September 25, the Associated Students hosted the OC Registrar of Voters’ Rock the Vote.

In an effort to bring awareness of the voting process in a new and engaging way, the organization visits campuses, street fairs, and concerts with a traveling rock band and information booth. Their mission is to make sure that all eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in the process.

GWC Students enjoyed the music, registered to vote, and picked up information on how to get involved. The Associated Students provided pizza at the event and took the opportunity to introduce the Homecoming Court.

This Week’s RecapMen’s water polo had a strong performance against Fullerton last week, with a win of 23-6. In order to maintain their standard of excellence, they chose to face off in a non-conference game against UCLA. It was a challenge that the team welcomed, and while loosing the game 11-7, it was a great opportunity.

Women’s volleyball matched up against Grossmont Wednesday and lost 1-3. The women traveled to Pierce College where they had a 2-day tournament and came out victorious with a 3-2 final score over.

Men’s soccer fought hard on Thursday against Southwestern, to only end the game in a tie, 2-2.

Women’s water polo met Fullerton in Rustler water on Wednesday, and the team successfully maintained their undefeated status with a final score of 16-10.

Rustler football faced off against Fullerton at home on Saturday night and in an agonizing end, Golden West lost, 14-48.

Women’s Soccer is on a roll with 3 wins this week, and 5 in a row.

Industry Pros Teach Acting for the Camera Master Class & Workshop

In 1957 in a New York Court of Law, a 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father – a charge that carries a mandatory death sentence. Twelve men are instructed by a judge on the magnitude of their deliberations and are told that if there is the slightest doubt in their minds as to the guilt of the defendant, they must acquit. Some members strongly believe that the young man is guilty. One does not. The seeds of reasonable doubt are sown forcing this room of strangers to learn more about each other than they ever imagined.
