2018 Term 2 Week 9

Dear Parents

This was our end of Term 2 outing and we went to the Esplanade Theatre to catch this play…

It was a fun experience as the children as sat through the play….

And there was never a dull moment as they children were also involved in the story. They were dancing…

chasing after bubbles…and interacting with the stage performers.

We had our snack time at the roof top terrace ……


And it was time to PLAY & EXPLORE the area!


Another surprise for the

children

Aunty San San was an ex-Kindy mother. Her son Zave graduated in 2015.

It was great to have her back in Kindy and some of the Peace children (who were in Love class then)

could still remember her!

The children had a good time listening to her tell stories in both English and Chinese!

For the Joy & Peace class, we have concluded our curriculum for Term 2.

The final 2 weeks of each Term are spent on catching up on outstanding work and revision.

English Language & Literacy

- Phonics

Peace:

a) Long vowel sound ‘ i ’ . Read short and long vowel ‘ i ‘ words (fish, pig, lip // bike. light, fire)

b) Worksheet – 3 sections :

i) Say the name of each picture and connect the picture with the long ‘ i ‘ sound to the letter in the centre

ii) Circle words with the long ‘ i ‘ sound

iii) Draw a picture with a long ‘ i ‘ sound and write a word with the long ‘ i ‘ sound

Joy:

a) Revision of letter sounds and short CVC words

b) Listen and write the correct letters / CVC words


Love:

a) Letter recognition Q

b) Words starting with the letter Q

c) Song: “Queue for quail eggs, q, q, q”

d) Activity: Run quickly to form a queue in front of teachers with quail eggs, as they sing the song.

a) Form the letter M with 4 magnetic strips

b) Take turns to be a mouse and find the cheese by flipping over a letter M, amidst letters K and L.

- Info Time:

a) Recalled the different animals that was shared during Term 2. The children could recall quite a number

of them :

> Safari Animals – Elephants, Giraffe, Rhinocerous, Hippotamous

> Bear Family – Panda, Sun bear, Polar Bear, Black bear

Katherine shook her balloon and told her friends that a ball is inside the balloon.

Christy had the same Peppa Pig purse but surprised her friends with a different candy placed inside!

Joshua brought a stethoscope and went round listening to the heartbeat of his friends.

Nathanael had a book about the airport and he was identifying all the pages with conveyor belts!

Love 2

Left to right:

Gavriel told his friends that he drew a mouse during the session with Asher.

Aden was so excited to tell everyone about his new PJ Mask toy named Gecko.

Kendrick brought a bird’s feather that he had picked up … “we can use it to tickle our friends”

Sophie had just returned from a holiday in Disneyland Tokyo. That was where she bought the mermaid, Ariel.

We all noticed that Ariel has so much red hair.


Mathematics

- Math is Fun:

Peace

a) Revision: Addition/subtraction/multiplication sums

b) Activity: A letter is attached to each sum. Solve the sum and look for the answer on the floor to decode a

secret message!

Joy

a) Addition (more than 5)

b) Activity: Form their own addition sums: choose a number from (0-4), and then a number from (5-9), add

them up and write the answer.

Activity: Equation hunt! With the number tile given, look for correct equation which answer matches the

number tile.


Love 1

- Activities:

a) Sorting - Sort the ping pong balls into orange and white

b) Rational counting (1-6) and introduction to 10; One-to-one correspondence

Count the number of ping pong balls that can fit into the egg tray

Count the number of marbles that can fit into the tray and stretch out all their fingers to represent 10

Love 2

- Learning Corner:

a) Sequence 1-10 puzzle with reference

b) Sort and count the number of fruits (watermelon, apple)

c) Count and fix the five monkeys on the bed


- Worksheet/Activity: Count the animals and paste the numerals accordingly

Fun & Movement

Mass Activity

Training the children’s accuracy as they:

a) Aim and throw the ball onto the target…


b) Use a chest pass to throw the ball to their friends…

c) Roll the ball to a friend after calling out their names.


Love 1 & 2

The Love children attempted some Visual-Coordination Training to improve their agility and coordination!

Rules: only one foot can be in one hoops at any point in time.

The hoops were placed in a zigzag manner on the ground. The children were challenged to alternate their steps

as the run through the hoops.

It took a while for the many to get used to it!

Catching! The Love 2 children love to try catching up to their friends before them!


When the hoops were placed side by side, the children were required to jump into the hoops,

with one feet landing in each hoop.

To further challenge them, the 2 pairs of hoops were placed side by side

and the rest were placed in a zigzag manner.

The children were tasked to jump through 2 pairs of hoops, then run through the rest of the hoops.

Some were a little confused along the way!


Joy

The Joy children also attempted the Visual-Coordination Training!

All while holding on to a ball!

When they finished the course, they were to throw the ball to the friend who is next in line


Peace

After a practice of their throwing and catching skills, the Peace children learned a new game:

Captain’s ball!

Rules:

- When you are holding on to the ball, you are not allowed to move

- Pass the ball to your teammates using an overhead pass or a chest pass

- Captains are not allowed to leave their post (they are standing in a hoop)

The teams were divided into (a) tucked in, and (b) tucked out… and off they went!


This game is new to them and they are still learning the rules and playing strategy (attack, defend, intercept),

but they did a great job nevertheless! (:

The children are getting more open and creative when asked

to change the lyrics of songs! Making it their own version.

Keeping the tune of the song, the children had to replace the blanks below with their own actions:
