Great news for our construction project—Gus and Rhonda Camacho are donating a new car for us to raffle off! A big thank you to them! This could really be a great booster shot toward paying off the loan from the Archdiocese if we rally behind ticket sales. Let’s really make this the best ticket sale in the history of the world! Jessica Monterroso, who is doing the ac-counting for Forward in Faith and the Second Wind campaigns, is sending a letter to all who have com-pleted their pledges. You probably will have gotten it before this bulletin is published. She will also be sending a regular statement to all who are still pay-ing pledges. They should come out every two months. Some people have been asking me things like: • Can I add to my original pledge? Adding to

the monthly donation during the remaining time on the pledge is most welcome. To avoid confu-sion in bookkeeping, I would prefer that once your pledge is finished you use the yellow New Construction Donation for additional donations.

• Where are the blue envelopes and the white envelopes with blue lettering entitled “Building Fund”? They have been retired since “Building Fund” blue envelopes have been in circulation way before I came 9 years ago. We are also nearing the end of the pledge time frame. Your pledge payments can be placed into any envelope—label “pledge payment” and we will be sure it gets accounted for. The ca-nary yellow “new construction” envelopes have replaced the blue and the white with blue lettering—for a fresh start! There is one a month in the packet, and it can be given in the second collection every month or at any time.

• What’s this new “Capital Improvements” en-velope for? It is for our “reserve fund” for un-expected expenses, e.g., a water heater goes out. It can also be used to pay for routine improve-ments, e.g., new window treatments in the class-rooms. Since it is a “special” collection it is not assessed toward the Archdiocesan support (10% of regular income) or Together in Mission (also 10% of regular income). It is NOT building fund nor capital campaign, but it IS to maintain and improve our property, our capital.

Please ask me, Estela Carlos or Jessica Monterroso if you have any questions about matters such as the above. The great “they said” is usually no more than a yarn spun by someone with a good imagina-tion! Thanks you for everything you are and do!

MISSION BELL PRESCHOOL

As we prepare to begin our 2017-18 school year, MBPS would like to offer our families some tips to help with a very real topic, Separation Anxiety, Part I. Never sneak out of the room: Your child won’t be happy when he figures out you’re gone. Make your goodbye short and sweet! Never make promises or bargains you can’t keep: Don’t say you’ll be sitting in your car in the parking lot outside if you won’t. In other words, say what you mean and mean what you say! Keep things stable: Don’t introduce any other new thing into the routine. Simple is key! Expect regression: Your child might be great the first week and drag her heels the second, or she might be completely potty trained but start having accidents. These things are very com-mon! Don’t put words in her mouth: Don’t say, “I know you hate school.” Reflect instead: “I hear you saying you feel sad.” In-stead, think positive and be positive! Plan to attend our Parent Orientations! Allow the MBPS staff to put your heart and mind at ease by getting to know us. Come

hear how other families made the transi-tion with our help and guidance! Parent Orientation: Wednesday. Aug. 16 (Pre-K Class) You may attend either session: 10am - 12pm or 6pm - 8 pm Thursday, Aug. 17 (Preschool Class) You may attend either session 10am - 12pm or 6pm - 8pm(We love your little

one, but we thank you in advance for making childcare arrange-ments, lot’s of information will be given to Parents only. We want your undivided attention! We look forward to seeing you!)

VIRTUS TRAINING

Protecting God’s Children is a training designed to help identify and prevent child abuse open to all pa-rishioners age 18 or over. The training is mandatory for all paid staff and volunteers having contact or po-tential contact with children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The next training in English will be Satur-day, August 12th in Room 5 from 10:00pm to 1:00pm. There is no cost for the training. To register, please call the parish office at 943-9314 or email Vonnie Ben-nett at [email protected]

Time to Celebrate!

August 15th, the Solemnity of the As-sumption of the BVM, is the 30th anniversary of the founding of our parish! Parish Masses are 7:00 AM, 12 Noon and 7:30 PM. We will be blessing our third building on this date at a spe-cial 4:00 PM Mass, by invita-tion! The altar must be con-secrated with chrism before it can be used, and this must happen within Mass. Invited guests will join Bishop Wilkerson in the chapel. The ceremony will be live-streamed into the parish hall so many more can watch. (I imagine you can watch from home too.) All are invited to gath-er in St. Serra Hall for food and beverage between about 5:30 and 7:00 PM on August 15th. Those already in the hall for the livestreaming will stay there as we set out the food. We need to celebrate this great event! Hopeful-ly, we will have pictures of the construction pro-cess to project . After the 7:30 evening Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be transferred to the new chapel. Bishop Wilkerson will bless the tabernacle. Hopefully the tech folks will be able to stay for the whole thing and livestream all this too. August 12th and 13th, after the Sun-day Masses, we will have tours of Our Lady’s Chapel for those who would like to get a look-see. It is very lovely and will be a prayerful place with the Blessed Sacrament fully visible in the sanctuary. (We will need to re-learn genu-flection upon entering and before leaving as well as maintaining reverential silence in the chapel.)

Vocations to the CSJ

The US-Mexico Vice-Province to which we five priests belong joyously received three men into the novitiate in Tlapan, DF, Mexico. Novitiate is a year-long prepa-ration for the first profession of the religious vows within our community of brothers. Pray for them and our new novice-master, from our Indian delegation, for an enriching and holy novitiate. Priesthood is at least 7 years ahead of them them—lots of books to read and training to under go.
