Glorifying God by … Reaching, Building, Serving
September 2015
From Randy...
There is a time for everything…a season for every activity under heaven….You have humbled me with your
calling to become your next pastor. When I look out upon you when I am preaching, I see so much potential to
become the Bride, the Church, that God calls us to be. Thank you for the opportunity to journey with you in the
years to come.
W.O.W. …Worship On Wednesdays will begin on September 2 in the sanctuary at 6:15 following supper.
Singing, special music, praying A-C-T-S, and an interactive sermon will be a part of the service. Know some-
one who works on Sundays? Invite them to join you on Wednesday nights for W.O.W.
The Noisy Change Offering will take place the first Sunday of every month beginning in September (Sept. 6).
Save the change and bring it forward and listen to the noisy offering. It is an opportunity to allow our children
(and everyone else) to enjoy the act of giving as a part of worship. Oh, and remember, save the “silent offering”
for later in our worship service. Let’s teach our children about how God loves a cheerful giver.
Would you like to have Lunch With the Pastor once a month? If you know of some “good eating” locations
let me know. Remember, these locations need to be able to seat a group of people around a large table or have a
private room. It will be a time of Food, Fellowship, and Fun. We will begin monthly lunches in October.
Help me out…help me in locating some of your favorite places to have lunch!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to See Through The Eyes of Jesus? In September, we will
attempt to see others through Jesus’ eyes:
Sept. 6 : Seeing the Invisible (John 9)
Sept. 13: Seeing the Guilty (John 8)
Sept. 20: Seeing the Non-Religious (Luke 10)
Sept. 27: Seeing the Untouchables (Matthew 8)
Bless the Lord. O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. (Psalm 103:1)
The apple by Joe Parker
I had the pleasure of attending the
final night of the Old Time Re-
vival at Shiloh. I truly enjoyed the
message delivered by Dr. Bill
Hagewood: “Understanding the
Importance of Our Spoken
Words.” I believe that message
may have been custom-delivered
that night especially for me. There
have often been times I have
placed my tongue in gear before I
engaged the clutch to my brain.
I also witnessed the love of a father
and son that evening. As I listened
to Dr. Hagewood’s message, there
were many references to his relationship to his father, to his
son, and to his son’s family. As many of you know, Dr. Hage-
wood’s son is Stephen Hagewood. Stephen and his family are
an integral part of the Shiloh family, and he is energetically
involved with his own mission effort, Mars Hill.
After the revival service was over, I approached Stephen
and told him how much I enjoyed his dad’s message. You
could readily see how proud he was of his dad. I exclaimed to
Stephen: “The apple didn’t fall far from the tree.” Stephen
made the argument that apples are round and maybe it rolled
away from the tree. I countered his argument that I was sure it
rolled toward the trunk and is currently just below the tree.
Stephen’s missionary work began early in his life because
his dad actively involved him in the missionary field at a very
young age. Stephen was about 8 years old when his father
received the call from God to become a career missionary in
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Like the rest of his
family, Stephen had to quickly learn Spanish. He spent his
childhood and graduated from high school in Santo Domingo.
All along the way, he was involved and watched as his dad
founded numerous churches and trained young ministers in
the field. His dad also served in Port-au-Prince, the largest
city of the Caribbean country of Haiti with a population of
around 3.7 million. He still does missions work there from his
church in Miami. Stephen had an on-the job training experi-
ence of growing up in a totally foreign country and witnessing
the work of the Lord through his dad’s service to the Lord.
After graduation, Stephen boarded an airplane by himself
and headed to Carson-Newman College, where his parents
went. Stephen recalled the experience: “Moving back to the
U.S. was a horrible time for me and a big part of my personal
testimony today. A lot of missionary kids, like military kids
who grow up overseas, suffer when coming ‘home’ to the
U.S. because it’s really not home, and they never really get to
go back ‘home’ like all the other college kids...God pulled me
through that time.” After Stephen gained his footing back on
American soil, he transferred to Tennessee Technical Univer-
sity and graduated with a double major in computer science.
Stephen and his dad both exude excitement in what they do.
Stephen’s ministry of reaching the youth for the Lord is no
easy assignment in this day and age. His involvement in Mars
Hill is captivating, likened to his dad’s enthusiasm for mis-
sion work. Through the Mars Hill events, the youth experi-
ence Christian fellowship, perform skits, enjoy live music,
listen to motivational speakers, enjoy food, and escape from
the secular world that reaches out to them daily.
There are many forms of mission works to be done for the
Lord. I am sure Stephen, like his father, will be actively in-
volved in some form of missions for the rest of his life. I say
this because “The apple didn’t fall far from the tree.”

Children’s Ministry It has been a very busy but great summer with
VBS and Music Camp. It’s now time to settle back
down to the normal activities. I am so excited to start
Wednesday night Missions & Music (M&M). We
will be skyping with Missionaries all over the globe
plus we will have our two Wednesday night meals
with our Missions focus. So mark your calendar for
September 2nd with dinner at 5:30; then at 6:00 we
are off on our journeys across the globe. On Sunday,
September 13 AWANA will kick things back off. It
all starts at 4:00 each Sunday. You don’t want to
miss out on the fun we will have. I do want to add
one more thing – to all of the graduating 6th graders
that moved up to youth. I am very proud of each of
you and the fine youth you are becoming. I know our
youth group will be that much stronger since you all
are moving up. I look forward to watching your
growth in Christ get bigger.
Music News Well, August was another great month at Shiloh
for music. The Revival was really nice and also
"reviving!" A special thanks to Stephen Hagewood
and the Mars Hill Band and Bob Lucy with One Day
Remains. They gave us a new musical experience
in our worship and we really appreciated their contri-
bution!
The new school year is about to begin and we will
start up on Wednesday nights. We are beginning a
youth choir this year. Angela Clatterbuck will lead
and this choir will meet before dinner on Wednesdays
from 5:00-5:30. Singers from 7th grade and up are
welcome!
We will also continue our Tiny Trebles and Grace
Notes between the hours of 6:00 and 7:00. They will
split their time between missions/Bible lessons and
music. Tiny Trebles are pre K—2nd grade and Grace
Notes are 3rd—6th grade. Cathy Gebstadt and Mere-
dith Busic will lead these groups.
Sounds of Praise, the adult choir, will practice on
Wednesdays at 7:15. Now is a great time to join be-
cause we are starting new music and starting to pre-
pare for Christmas. Wednesdays are a great time for
mid-week worship, praise and music. I hope you will
put it on your schedules!!
AWANA
It’s September and AWANA is on the move! We
will be meeting Sunday evenings from 4:00pm to
5:30pm to study and memorize God’s word, learn
more about God’s place in our lives and play chal-
lenging games to build team spirit. AWANA has pro-
grams for pre-K (Cubbies), K-2nd (Sparks), 3rd-6th
grade (Truth and Training), Middle School (Trek) and
High School (Journey). Our first meeting will be
September 13 to register and get to know everyone.
We Need Adults! If you have an interest or pas-
sion to work with God’s kids and help them know
their Father in Heaven, please contact Jim Jensen
(AWANA Commander) at 775-2593.
Snack Supper! In years past we have had a small
snack supper right after AWANA (also served to the
Youth) to help families not feel so rushed to have to
go home and cook a meal….these do not fix them-
selves! If you would be interested in preparing small
meals for the Snack Supper (We can provide the food
to be fixed), please contact Jim Jensen at the number
above.

Missions Focus for September and October Operation Christmas Child
Alma Hunt Offering
Operation Inasmuch
September begins our emphasis of Operation Christmas Child and is
the month we collect for the Alma Hunt Offering. The first Saturday in
October is set aside for Operation InAsMuch, an opportunity to serve in
King George County. Each project is explained in the paragraphs below.
Let us begin with prayer for these opportunities to show the love of Jesus!
It’s time for Christmas! Ok, maybe not, but it’s definitely time to get
ready for Operation Christmas Child! Again this year, Shiloh will be
collecting shoeboxes filled with necessities and small toys and gifts to
bless children around the world, introduce them to Jesus and tell them that He loves them! This is a
great ministry opportunity for the whole family to participate in. There are several ways to participate:
1) pick up a shoebox at Shiloh, fill it (ideas are on the flyer in the shoebox) and return it; 2) make a
donation to help with purchasing items to fill shoeboxes or to help pay for shipping; and/or 3) pur-
chase and donate items to help fill shoeboxes. We have been blessed this year with a donation of
many small toys with which to fill shoeboxes (probably 50 of them). We are in need of donations of
toothbrushes, soap, washcloths, socks, brushes, combs, pens, pencils & sharpeners, erasers, crayons,
markers, small notebooks and coloring books, small dolls or stuffed toys, small balls or jump ropes,
costume jewelry, small cars, small flashlights with extra batteries… anything a child age 2-14 would
need or enjoy (please, no breakables, liquids or war-related items).
We will be collecting shoeboxes and donations until October 31. From our church, they will be
delivered to a collection center, then to a regional processing center and finally will be delivered by
the Samaritans Purse organization to a child in need via plane, boat, truck, donkey, foot or whatever
else it takes to get the shoeboxes to the children. It’s a journey that can start with you, from right here
in King George! Additional information can be found on the Missions Bulletin Board and in the shoe-
boxes located around the church. Questions? Contact Teresa Tubbs (and Rachel) at 775-4053 or
Operation InAsMuch is a ecumenical project that gives us the opportunity to experience hands-on
work that is needed to help folks in our own county. The date set aside for this is Saturday, October
3. If you would like to help out, please sign up outside the church office, or call Brenda Hastings,
540-498-0903. This is a great way to show King George that Jesus cares and loves them! Projects
will be assigned and participants will be given tasks on the morning of October 3. More details will
be published in the bulletin closer to the event.
September 13—20 is the emphasis week for the Alma Hunt Offering.
When you give to the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions you are
working with other Virginia Baptists as we share the love of Christ with a
world in crisis and help to further the work of God’s Kingdom. Prayer
guides and offering envelopes will be in the September 13 bulletin and in
the vestibules.
