FOURTEENTH SUNDAY ORDINARY TIME JULY 3, 2016 www.ctkbelton.org Christ the King Catholic Church Belton Page 1 From Fr. John Kim As some of you know, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2005, and the disease has pro- gressed rapidly the last three years. I heard that his ability to speak was getting worse, thus I decided to travel to South Korea to spend time with my family as soon as SpringFest was over. During the visit, I planned to talk to my dad about many things, including my sincere gratitude for what he has done for me and my family. Unfortunately, when I arrived I learned that his condition was worse than I expected. Although his mind is very keen, due to the effect of his illness, he cannot not speak well nor hear. His condition prevented me from having a deep and sincere conversation. On the weekend before my return to the states, I celebrated the Mass with my family. At the end of the Mass, I felt deeply the Holy Spirit as I conferred the Anointing of the Sick upon my dad. I asked each of my family members to stand near me and my dad as I prayed over him. Then my sister somehow decided to take a picture of us. After the Mass, my sister said, “At first, I thought that the picture was taken with a blurry image, but you cannot believe what I captured!” It was around 5:00 o’clock, and the location of the sun was behind me. Yet a perfect beam of light ap- peared over my dad’s head while I was doing the Laying on of Hands, the important part of the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. Whenever I confer this Sacrament of Healing, I truly believe this, but seeing this pic- ture reassures me of the power of the sacrament. Most of all, it is the assurance of God as if he were saying, “Don’t worry about your dad. I will take care of him.” Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel is, “peace to this household.” This picture gives me evidence that God has and will take care of my family so that I may focus on his mission without remorse for abandoning my family. I know that God is good. I am convinced that God is awesome. But now I can testify that God is truly good and awesome! Thank you SO MUCH for your contributions and support of our annual WingFest and SpringFest. I especially want to express my sin- cere gratitude to all SpringFest committee mem- bers under the leadership of Dan and Lita Daniel. We have reached $80,000 net profit, and this will help us install a new, more efficient cooling sys- tem that will make our sanctuary a comfortable place to worship for years to come. Your generos- ity is another way God shows His goodness and love to Christ the King Catholic community here in Belton, Texas! Thank you for joining us at Christ the King Catholic Church. We are happy to have you with us today, and hope that you feel welcome. Our parish is a very vibrant community of faith. Are you new to the Catholic Church? Have you been away from the Church for some time? You are invited to worship with us. Contact our parish office if you would like to learn more about the Catholic faith, discuss plans for marriage or baptism, or schedule a chat with Fr. John. As some of you know, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2005, and the disease has pro-gressed rapidly the last three years. I heard that his ability to speak was getting worse, thus I decided to travel to South Korea to spend time with my family as soon as SpringFest was over. Christ the King has 17 students and 4 chaperones prayerfully making a pilgrimage to Krakow, Poland on July 23 – August 3, to celebrate World Youth Day along with millions of young Catholics from around the world. Their mission? To enter deeply into the Beatitudes, focusing especially on Jesus’ exhortation to be merciful. Let us celebrate this international youth gathering as we pray for them! Below is the official logo focusing on Divine Mercy and the theme chosen by Pope Francis from the Gospel of St. Matthew: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.” The Sign of the World Youth Day Krakow 2016 is en-closed in the outline of Poland. The Yellow circle marks the City of Krakow on the map and sym-bolizes the Youth. In its center there is inscribed a cross which represents Jesus Christ as the spirit of the meeting. The spark of the Divine Mercy flows out of the cross. Its shape and color refer to the painting “Jesus I trust in You”. The colors used in the logo are the official colors of Kracow and it’s crest.
