Thank you to all who observed “Sugar-Out Day” today!
February is Dental Health Month!
Dental disease is a costly health problem in Maine. Tooth decay is preventable. One step in breaking the chain of decay is to cut down on the amount of sugary foods and drinks your family consumes. Sugar mixes with the germs in your mouth to form an acid. This acid eats away your teeth. If “acid-attacks” happen too often, the teeth are weakened and cavities start.
There are many foods we eat daily that have “hidden” sugars. These sugars include honey, molasses, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, and sucrose. It may be hard to change your eating habits by choosing foods and drinks without sugar. But, you can read food labels and replace the sweet, sticky, starchy snacks such as candy, raisins, potato chips and soda with fresh and canned fruits (without heavy, sugary syrup), vegetables, popcorn, cheese and yogurt. Most children like these foods and they make great low-sugar snacks to take to school too!
Thank you for your help and support for a brighter, healthier smile for life!
Friendship Ski Club
Ski Club will resume on Friday nights star7ng February 12th, at the Camden Snow Bowl. This is a more affordable way for parents and children, ages 7 and up, to learn to ski. This is not school related, there is no bus or chaperones and parents must go with their children. We MUST have at least 10 people (students/parents/siblings) sign up to ski for the group discount. Lessons start promptly at 4:30, please don’t be late. All paperwork and fees (checks payable to Camden Snow Bowl) must be turned in to Amy McColleF {15 Harbor Rd, the 2nd house past Wallace’s Market on the right-‐ please don’t send the informaPon into the school} or Cecily Havener by the Wed before the ski date. Forms are in the FVS foyer. There will be no Ski Club on holidays or vaca7ons, please note: no Ski Club on Friday February 19, 2016. Please contact Amy (542-‐4040) or Cecily (441-‐8133) with any ques7ons.

From the Principal’s Desk,
Our school is participating in the #ReadtoMe Challenge from February 2nd to March 2nd. It is a campaign to promote childhood literacy in Maine. We would love for our families to participate by posting a picture or video of you reading to or with your child and post it to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other social network with #ReadtoME and #ReadaloudME, and tag your friends to challenge them!
