Friends of Mitchell Park at the Embassy Last Wednesday, the Slovenian embassy hosted a reception honoring the Friends of Mitchell Park. This group has created and seeks to maintain Mitchell Park as a pleasant experience, only a few blocks away from the Slovenian embassy in Washington. Mitchell Park is a place where children can play and adults relax, all enjoying some quiet in an inviting grassy landscape. With the help of the Friends of Mitchell Park, the park provides playground equipment, a multipurpose hard-court, a large open field, picnic tables and benches for relaxing. The Slovenian embassy in Washington also has an important connection with the park. In June of 2011, we planted a linden tree in the park to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Slovenian independence. On this occasion, Ambassador Kirn stressed the importance of keeping the environment clean and thanked the Friends of Mitchell Park for their important and noble work in keeping the park so beautiful. community where it is located and wished the Friends of Mitchell Park a lot of success in their future work. Mr. Pierre Wagner, the president of the Friends of Mitchell Park, thanked Ambassador Kirn for his hospitality at the Slovenian embassy, and presented him with a gift to remind him of the Kalorama area in Washington, where Mitchell Park is located. He also thanked all the participants for moral and sometimes fi nancial help and assured

everybody that the Friends will continue their work for Mitchell Park in the future.

Financial Incentive For Revoz (Renault) Company

BUSINESS

The Slovenian government has granted a fi nancial incentive to Revoz d.d. for the investment project for manufacturing the new Twingo and four-seat Smart (Edison), totalling EUR45.5 million, provided that it is approved by the European Commission. The project, estimated at EUR326 million, was devised by the French company Renault, of which Revoz is subsidiary. Revoz is the only car manufacturer in Slovenia, accounting for 8 percent of total exports. The fi nancial incentive for direct foreign investment in Revoz means that direct foreign investment in Slovenia will rise, along with the number of employees, as 162 jobs will be created by this project. Sales of the new Twingo and Smart (Edison) models are envisaged in most European Economic Area countries, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. The object of the investment project is the introduction of new models of vehicles from the so-called Edison project, established by the partnership between Renault-Nissan and Daimler. Edison models will be made on

a new construction platform, the so-called

‘A platform’. The next generation of Renault Twingo and Daimler Smart four-seaters, along with their electric-powered versions, will be manufactured by Revoz. These are smaller rear-wheel drive cars, which are spacious and practical for city driving. Renault’s factory in Novo mesto, Revoz, already manufactures small Renault cars for the European market: the Twingo, Wind, and Clio Storia. The production of the next generation of Twingo and Daimler four-seater Smart cars is set to begin at Revoz at the end of 2013, and in 2014, some 194,200 vehicles are to be produced on the A platform. Production should continue until at least the end of 2019.

November 11 is traditionally believed to be the day when Saint Martin, the patron of wine, turns must into wine. On that day the wine is blessed and the celebrations begin. Saint Martin’s celebrations are widely popular throughout Slovenia, especially in wine-growing regions. Tourist farms along the wine roads organize celebrations with traditional Martin’s feast. This includes a roasted goose or duck, red cabbage, fl atbread

called mlinci, and new wine.

A goose is a symbol of Saint Martin,

who was very popular among the believers

due to his modesty. The legend says he was

hiding in a goose pen trying to avoid being

ordained bishop and the geese gave away his

hiding spot by cackling.
