Start your day with breakfast:

7-9am Pancake Breakfast with the Masons The Readfield Masons will host a pan-cake breakfast at the Masonic Hall which is located above the Post Office in the center of town. Pro-ceeds will be donated to a cause of their choice.

The Days events include:

9am Golden Guys & Gal’s will hold a White Ele-phant Craft Sale and Bake Sale! Come see us and find your treasures! We will be located at the Read-field Union Meeting House.

9-1pm Annual Library Book Sale is a Heritage Day’s Favorite! Come to the Readfield Fire Station for gently used books, movies and more!

9-2pm Union Meeting House on the Church will have lots of events including: Quilt Raffle, Huge Yard Sale , and Fantastic Demos Featuring the Western Maine Blacksmith Association & the Maine Barn Co. Tony Castro is an expert in restoring decorative painting on the walls of old buildings and will be here to give demonstrations. (Details on page 21)

Events on Saturday, August 12th:

9:30am-11am Old Fairgrounds Trail History Walk Dale Potter-Clark from RHS will share some history of the Old Fairgrounds. The Age Friendly and the Trails Committees will provide the op-portunity to appreciate the handicapped accessible trails within that system. Meet at the Fairgrounds parking lot by 9:30am. Refreshments and water will be availa-ble.

10am-12pm Cemetery Stone Leaning and Cleaning Workshop Back by popular demand! If you have a pas-sion for history or want to learn how to care properly for your loved one's head-stones, join Sexton, Anna Carll, at the Readfield Corner Cemetery.

10am Softball Game Kids and parents gather for a friendly game of softball on the new Keene Commu-nity Ballfield on the Fairgrounds property. Equip-ment provided, just bring your glove and come have fun.

10-2pm Face Painting, Balloon Toss, Sack Race etc. For young and old alike on the Town Beach (Sponsored by the Readfield Recreation Assoc.)

10-2pm Fun Flush! The opposite of a Dunk Tank! Hit the target and get our volunteers soaked! Co-sponsored by the Readfield Community Library and the Friends of the Readfield Community Library. All proceeds to support additional programs at the li-brary.

10-4pm Bounce House on the Town Beach

11-2pm Instrument Making Demo with Steve Hallee is being held at the Empori-um. Silverleaf Instruments is a Maine company that designs and builds musical instruments. Owner Steve Hallee, instrument craftsman and musician will demonstrate his work at the Emporium from 11-2. Steve and his co-worker and fellow musician, Scott Markee, will also provide musical entertainment . Ste-ve crafts his Travolin (travel mandolin) www.travolin.com and Resocoustic Guitar from Maine Maple and Maine Adirondack Spruce. He will also be featuring a new steel string Jazz Ukulele called the Juke Uke www.jukeuke.com. Come learn, listen, and enjoy!

11-1pm Art Walk Cont. …..the trail from the back of the town library up to the Readfield Union Meeting House to see some beautiful art. The shaded path will have local as well as regional artists displaying and offering some their work for purchase. In case of rain, the art show will be on the 2md floor of the town office.

1-3pm Jesse Lee Meeting House will hold an Open House and a bake sale along with some historical memorabilia

2pm Bicycle Poker Run Starting at the Fairgrounds property (Details on page 15)

3pm Weigh in for the Kids Fishing Derby. This all day event will end with a weigh in by 3pm at the Readfield Fire Station. (Details on Page 16.)

Maranacook’s Performing Arts Center

MASKED MARVELS AND WONDERTALES is a perfor-mance of humor, nimble speech, and elegant gestures. Audiences of every age and description have been daz-zled by Michael Cooper's performance. He is a one man extravaganza that features handcrafted masks, original stories of courage and wonder, stilt dancing and more. No admission charge but Maranacook's Performing Arts Center only has 170 seats available. Advance (free) tick-ets are available at the Town Office during their regular business hours. Tickets not given out will be available at the show. It’s a first come first show seating. Any seats not filled by 6:50 will be given to anyone waiting in line.

Readfield Blizzard Busters Cook Out at the Town Beach

Friday, August 11th from 4-6pm (Proceeds support the club & trails.)

Readfield Blizzard Buster's will be grill-ing at the Beach! Our hard working snowmobile trail groomers will be cooking burgers and hotdogs! There will also be delicious baked goods, drinks and other food available. All proceeds go to support the equip-

ment and materials needed for the Blizzard Busters to keep the Readfield area snowmobile trails in great shape this winter! The Readfield Blizzard Busters Snowmobile Club (RBBSC)

are always hard at work preparing the trails for the up

coming season’s use. Over 30 miles of snowmobile trails

are also open to cross-country skiers and those who ven-

ture out on snowshoes. Designated marked trails are a

result of the Club working with 30 plus generous land-

owners. RBBSC’s volunteers spend every fall marking

trails, clearing brush and most recently grooming the

trails for safe passage. We are ready for you………

Bicycle Poker Run

The Bike Poker Fun Ride starts at the Fairgrounds at 2:00 pm . The course will be on the trails, the side-walk, and will continue up Church Road and finish at the Fairgrounds. Volunteers will be stationed on the course to hand out playing cards to each rider. The best poker hand in each age category will receive a prize at the end. Helmets required for all. This is a fun ride...not a race. Come ride the trails and win a prize! Age Groups: 10-15 years; 16-21 years; 22 and up

Group Tours of the famous Readfield Union Meeting House.

Fantastic Demos: "Western Maine Blacksmith Association will

demonstrate traditional metal-

working skills, working out of their

mobile "smithy". Stan Tilton, 2nd

generation blacksmith and Presi-

dent of WMBA, will be at the forge

and anvil, creating useful and dec-

orative items from metal bars.

The Maine Barn Co. will feature traditional timber framing. The

Maine Barn Company used traditional New England post and

beam timber framing techniques to successfully restore beams

in the Union Meeting House. Come to see this one of a kind his-

torical craftsmanship demonstrated. These traditional tech-

niques have assured that the Union Meeting House will stand

in Readfield as an architectural treasure for years to come.

Tony Castro is an expert in restoring decorative painting on the

walls of old buildings. It has been a thrill to see the famous 150

year old wall art in the Readfield Meeting House come back to

life with paint that is scientifically matched to the original col-

or! Tony will demonstrate his meticulous techniques during

Heritage Days.

Spectrum Generations, the Central Maine Area Agency on Aging and Aging and Disability Resource Center, has been a leading provider of information and advice, referrals, pro-grams and activities for adults for over 30 years.

Spectrum Generations’ local community centers provide a variety of educational opportunities, fitness classes, and social activities. The Cohen Center in Hallowell will highlight the services offered to seniors during Heritage Days at out booth on Saturday, August 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Look for us on the sidewalk across from the Library.
