Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease We have had a confirmed case of Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease at school. This is generally a mild illness caused by a virus, perhaps with a fever, blisters around the mouth, on the hands and feet and perhaps the nappy area in babies. Symptoms will last seven to ten days. HFMD is more common during warmer weather and tends to spread easily between children. It occurs mainly in children under 10 years of age but can also affect older children and adults. This infection is spread by direct contact with fluid from the skin blisters, nose and throat discharges (including saliva, sputum or nasal mucus, droplets (sneezing, coughing) and faeces (stools). Good personal hygiene is important to prevent spread of the infection to others. The most common symptoms include; high temperature, sore throat, small, blister-like lesions that may occur on the inside of the mouth, sides of the tongue, palms of the hands, fingers, soles of the feet and nappy area, children are often irritable, tired and may be off their food. More information can be found at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne website https://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/fact_sheets/Hand_foot_and_mouth_disease/ The Department of Education advises that children should stay away from school until all blisters have dried.

PBL Update This week at their morning meeting, the PBL Team reviewed and refined the Action Plan that was developed at the Planning Day last Monday. Next….. The implementation of the PBL Action Plan will commence with a staff survey. The first course of action to be undertaken is a survey of current staff relating to the current school vision, motto and school values. Stay tuned for further updates as the term and year progresses.

Principal’s Post

Dear Parents and Carers, Due to the weather last Friday our evacuation practice was postponed until Monday. This ran smoothly with staff and students all following the correct procedures. The WH&S committee will now seek feedback from staff, to ensure our process in the event of an emergency is the best it can possibly be. Congratulations to all our students that started NAPLAN yesterday. In speaking with their teachers they had a wonderful start with a positive mindset of knowing this is just one test on one day.

Unfortunately, some connectivity issues were experienced during the test and these issues are currently being investigated. This was not a local issue but a national one. If your child was affected by this issue, allowance of additional time was allocated to minimise the impact on our students.

National test authorities have advised they regret any inconvenience this has caused to schools and students, and are working to rectify the issue as soon as possible. Our school basketball court started to be upgraded yesterday. This does involve some use of loud machinery, however, this short term interruption will soon be over and we will have an amazing new multipurpose court for our students to use. Organisation for sport is well underway for PSSA, Paul Kelly Cup and Zone Cross Country. With many students representing our school we will be introducing ‘student representative agree-ments’. This is to ensure that families and students know what is expected of them and the consequences if they are unable to meet these requirements. Students will need to have this signed by their parent/carer if they participate in these events. Mrs Nic Williams Principal

The #0 blade will enable clinicians in the operating theatre and the emergency department to safely intubate babies up to 3 years old. It has the potential to prevent neonates and infants being transferred to Melbourne when they require intubation and have a difficult airway. 4 x Paediatric airway trollies Defines a new standard of organised emergency carts, it has many features to ensure ease of access and usability in an emergency situation. The system will often allow children to remain in Albury and prevent the need to be transferred to tertiary centres. 4 x Sofa beds We like to ensure that all parents that stay with their child have the ability to sleep beside the bed, sofa beds will ensure that there is a sofa bed next to every patient bed to give families a little bit of comfort throughout their stay.
