Page 2: @FreshStartFoodsCanada Milton HQ: 1-800-563-5033 Ottawa ... · Potatoes Red & Yellow: Red and yellow potato supplies are limited. Leaf: Market is softer on carton romaine, although

• POTATOES New crop red and yellow potatoes remain limited as demand exceeds supply. Markets will remain volatile for the month of July. Ontario will start new potatoes in early August.

• ONIONS Expect to see declining markets as we head into next week. Demand is slowing down as the 4th of July and Canada Day pull has passed.

• LIMESThere is plenty of volume to push out on all sizes, markets continue to remain very reasonable.

• LETTUCES ICEBERG - Supplies continue to be light and this will continue for the entire week. Triggered pricing is in effect on value-added items. Demand continues to exceed supplies. Quebec iceberg lettuce continues with good supplies and heavy demand. The primary pack from Quebec is 24ct cello wrapped.ROMAINE / LEAF - Romaine hearts will be light in availability all week. Green leaf is the most active and red leaf supplies have tightened up as well. Triggered pricing is in effect on value-added romaine and green leaf items. Quebec green leaf, red leaf and romaine continue with good volume and heavy demand.SPRING MIX, SPINACH & BABY KALESpinach supplies look to be in good shape going into next week. Quality is good with occasional yellowing and bruising of the tender leaves.ROCKET ARUGULA / WATERCRESSArugula supplies continue to be a little on the tight side. Weather has negatively affected the supply of baby red kale and it will not be available for the foreseeable future. Bunched watercress quality and availability is good.

• APPLESGood supplies of imported Royal Gala’s and Grannies. The quality on most of the imports has been excellent.

• BRUSSELS SPROUTS The brussels sprouts market continues to adjust as more supply is in the pipeline.

• CELERY Plenty of production to meet demand due the school summer holidays. Quebec celery is scheduled to start around July 17th.

• CORNAs we have passed the Fourth of July and Canada Day holiday pulls, supplies will steadily get better. Local corn will start in about 2 weeks.

• AVOCADOSInventories of Mexican fruit are depleted as the industry is limited on options. Demand exceeds supply, and fruit is holding at a premium. Suppliers are scrambling to cover orders.

• GOLD PINEAPPLES The majority of the world’s supply of pineapples are sourced from Costa Rica and shortages are widespread. Will take 10-14 days for supplies to return to normal and prices will remain elevated until supplies improve.

• MELONCANTALOUPES - The fruit has started ramping up and seeing a steady supply on smaller fruit with opportunity buys available. New crop fruit is showing excellent internal and external quality.HONEYDEWS - Production will ramp up expecting better volume next week. We are currently overlapping with the desert still producing fruit. We will see the desert run for another few weeks.

• TOMATOES EAST - East coast supply has shrunk as production begins to transition to regional summer growing operations.WEST - Mexican tomato prices are steady from last week. Duties are set at 17.56% of the value of tomatoes crossing into the US directly affecting the cost of goods.

• STONE FRUIT Good availability on all stone fruit. Limited fruits in very large or very small sizes. 60-70ct sizes are good. Quality has been excellent and demand has been lighter than normal. Peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots and now pluots are available.

= Local options available

• ASPARAGUSMarkets continue to be flat as local and import growing regions are having production all at once

• CAULIFLOWER The recent warm weather has pushed fields forward and yields have started to decrease. Quality is good with minor bruising. Quebec should start around the 21st of July.

• MANGOESCurrent sizing is peaking on 10 count, followed by 9 count and 12 count. The larger sizes, like 7 and 8 counts, are becoming more available in combination with smaller sizes.

• PEARSInventory will continue to diminish (especially on 110ct and smaller).

• GRAPEFRUIT Internal and external color is nice with high brix. Volume is increasing daily, peaking on 36/40 count.

• GARLIC SCAPES - From BC• SEA ASPARAGUS - From BC• PORCINI- From Oregon• SUMMER TRUFFLES- From Spain• WINTER TRUFFLES - From Australia• BLUEFOOT - From France• MOREL MUSHROOMS - From BC• CHANTERELLE - From Bulgaria

• CITRUS - LEMONSSupplies continue to remain tight on 140’s and smaller. Prices continue to stay strong on both choice and fancy fruit.
